Shared on Tue, 04/21/2009 - 19:11Tomorrow morning, there will an occultation (eclipse) of Venus by the Moon over much of the U.S. and Canada.
It will not be occulted on the east coast or in the southeast (as far as west as Louisiana). See http://www.skyandtelescope.com/observing/home/42919767.html
This varies immensely by location so use the chart at http://www.lunar-occultations.com/iota/planets/0422venus.htm. The variation has to do not only with time zones, but also the diameter of the moon and it's apparent path from different locations. The chart is in UTC (or GMT) so for Eastern daylight timezone, subtract 4 hours, 5 hours for CDT, 6 hours for MDT, and 7 hours for PDT.
For Chicago , 12 hours, 45 minutes, and 8 seconds comes to 7:45:08 am, CDT start time, 13:26:25 becomes 8:26:25 am, CDT for the reappearance time.
Also note that the chart has TWO sections, one for disappearance time and the second section for reappearance time.
