I'm working on changing that, though. There are a lot of things happening in my life right now, and some huge things on the horizon (more details down the line) but despite all that, I'm trying to get involved.
Today is the first step. I met up with Waterborn at the Rock and Shock festival in Worcester, Massachusetts. Rock and Shock is an annual event with bands (including one or two major headliners - this year is Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie, who is likely rocking the joint as I type this) and a horror movie convention with vendors and actors from horror films trying to make a buck selling autographs.
First, after checking out the vendors, I got a few autographs and photos. Among the people I met on the floor:
Danielle Harris, from Halloween 4 and 5 and Rob Zombie's reboot of Halloween
My son with Zoe Bell, one of the leads in Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof (she was the Australian stunt girl). She was cool as shit and very easy to talk to, and we chatted for 10 minutes about working with Tarantino.
The "Grandfather of the Zombie," George Romero. He was signing autographs all day and chatting it up with fans, but the line for his autograph was probably 200 or 300 bodies deep so I yelled "George!" and snapped a quick photo.
And finally, the person I wanted to mee the most:
Danny Trejo, motherfucking Machete himself. He was friendly but also dealing with a very long schedule and also hayfever, so I didn't get a chance to chat him up much. He is much shorter than I expected, too - when he is playing a bad-ass in movies like Machete, Con-Air, and From Dusk Till Dawn he looks huge but in real life no so much. I would certainly not fuck with him but I was expecting him to be at least a few inches taller than me.
(On a small side note, if you haven't seen Machete yet go pre-order the DVD right now. It's everything Expendables almost was, and better.)
After autographs and meet & greet, I had a quick lunch then met up with Waterborn. We shot a video that involved going backstage and past all the props for the Rob Zombie/Alice Cooper show, and will be available on the front page here at 2old2play within the next couple weeks.
After a long day I'm finally back home and going to sleep in a bit. One of the other people we spoke to today was Adam Green, director of the films Frozen and Hatchet - I have heard great things about Frozen so the wife and I will probably be watching that tonight before passing out.
