Shared on Wed, 10/20/2010 - 22:30Symphony tonight was just plain stupid! I can't stand the idiots who come to a rehearsal completely unprepared (4 days to the concert, may I add) and laugh about all the mistakes they're making. It's asinine that a group of professionals would accept their shitty behavior, yet no one in their section nutted up enough to say anything.
In my section, my stand partner was screwing up more often than he was getting things right! 80% of the bowings were backward!!! I mean you practically have to do it wrong on purpose to do it that badly. I pointed it out frequently and he was really gracious about it, and marked his music, but no improvement was made. At the break I said to him "I don't care if you play a single note correctly, don't cock up the bowings! It looks unprofessional and is just plain wrong!" He was polite and said OK I'll practice. (BTW, maybe he could practice turning the page on time for a change- he missed EVERY page turn but one tonight, and then remarked "Gosh, you're good! You have the next bit memorized!" I replied "I HAVE to- you miss every bloody page turn!")
I'm bitchy I know it, and I am a perfectionist. However, if I were a patron attending the upcoming concert on Saturday, after hearing Beethoven's 5th massacred by a bunch of half-assed performers, I'd feel like I got gypped out of $25! I'd be indignant that I paid to hear that slop. I hope several of the audience members write a crisp letter to the conductor asking for their money back and lamenting the poor quality of presentation and attention to detail and nuance. I'm embarassed to be appearing onstage this weekend.
On a happier note: I had the BEST pumpkin ale this weekend! My BF and I went out to eat at a BJ's and when the bartender suggested that beer I said sure. It was heaven. HEAVEN! Speaking of the new BF... another slice of heaven. He's sweet and caring, won't let me pay for a thing (which I actually have a hard time with- I'd prefer to pay my own way at a minimum), and treats me like gold. We're having such a good time! We had a Star Wars marathon the other night, followed by Lego Star Wars on his XBOX, then we played some Limbo (I'm still in love with that game, even knowing all the tricks). And I made some effing outstanding food. I feel creative when I'm happy, and food generally receives the brunt of my creative force. Hurrah for Matt's strong stomach- we ate some crazy stuff.
Now it's time for a little Deathspank before bed. Does anyone have the Claptrap Revolution for Borderlands? Any recs for it?
