Food-gasm achieved

This blog is for foodies, and Portal 2 players (warning if you haven't finished the game yet).

I had a concert this weekend and went to dinner after with my BF. We chose a place called Roy's Hawaiian Fusion... it seemed like a cool idea, based on the menu, so we went.

I can't quite remember paying more for a meal for two, but it was TOTALLY worth it. That's a pair and a half of decent shoes that I spent on dinner, but I'd do it again. Essentially, it was haute cuisine, polynesian style. I had the corn crab crusted barramundi, fingerling potatoes, and a roasted sun dried tomato herbed fondue. Matt had misoyaki butterfish (black cod, similar to Chilean sea bass), a wasabi infusion and wilted greens. I can honestly say that I've never teared up because of food until this moment. It was heaven! We had an appetizer sampler of seared ahi tuna, lobster potstickers, teppenyaki beef short rib, spiced edamame, tempura crab roll, and spicy grilled tiger shrimp. Every single thing I tasted was incredible. Ok, the fingerling potatoes lacked a certain nuance to the overall food selections, but that's the limit of my criticism for this place! OMG it was divine. For drinks we had a Mai Tai (very nice) and a Jack & Ginger (Jack Daniels and ginger infused liquere with a chiffonade of basil and lime peel), and with the food I had a glass of white, Conundrum, which I highly recommend if you like sweet-ish wines, like rieslings (and I've already found a dealer in my area who carries it!). For dessert: a pineapple upsidedown cake (made to order in individual ramekins) with a lace cookie (shaped like a pineapple) and ... wait for it.... cononut ice cream!!! It was THE creamiest ice cream I've ever had, and it was coconut! Now I'm not a huge fan of coconut, but I don't dislike it either. This was so delicious! I sat at the table at the end of the meal completely and totally satisfied... hence the food-gasm. I was stuffed, but I wasn't hungry, the wait staff was perfect, and answered all my questions, made good recommendations, and was friendly and attentive without hovering. It was really a wonderful night.

Ok Portal 2: spoiler alert so get out now if you don't wanna know.

I got to the end where Wheatley is trying to kill me, and found that it was much like the epic battle with GladOs in Portal 1, though less fulfilling, less challenging, and less exciting. I say boo to the devs for a sloppy end game. I did like the overall escape, and how it was structured. I liked the sarcasm and downright hateful commentary provided by GladOs and Wheatley (toward the end). My favorite stuff was the huge escape (whereas in Portal 1 it was my least favorite part) because it was so challenging and there was nothing to show you you've done it right or not (generally) until you arrived where you needed to go. It was a fun game, but I really have one MAJOR complaint. Perhaps I just haven't figured it out and if that's the case, maybe someone could clue me in... I can't find a way to go back to particular levels and choose which test chambers I'd like to do again (say for the achievements: break the rules in test 07.... how the heck to find it again unless I play through it again???). I don't mind playing through another time really, but I'd like the option of going back to specific points via the menu (rather than save multiple games and remember which slot has which level saved). Spolier alert over.

I looked into Brink, read a bit about it, heard some things that made me look at it again and consider it. I'm not sold. Can anyone REALLY convince me I need this game? I also briefly viewed the indie game Decay. I kinda want it. Anyone out there who can give some commentary on it? Oh, on a stupid note: I used to think "indie game" or "indie movie" referred to games/films from India. Looking back I feel REALLY stupid, but I have to laugh. I know Matt laughs at me every time (and he brings it up often enough so I won't forget he's the one who corrected me on this). X-P

That's it for today. Parents' visit coming up this week to check out my new place, then a weekend away with Matt in Galveston... he's taking me to meet "The Family". It's his uncle's 70th birthday so EVERYONE will be there, and he wants me to meet people. :-D  His parents offered to drive us down, get us a hotel room, etc... of course I'll chip in, but it's nice of them to offer.

Have a nice week! Oh.... 12 days of school left then summer!!!!!!!! While you chumps are all at work I'll be smiling at home, playing xbox. I'll be sure to rub it in once in awhile so you don't forget. >:-D

When you start a new game in Portal 2, you will be able to choose which Chapter to start in. You don't get to pick a specific room though, just the chapter start. Better than nothing!

Brink has a lot of potential, but they need to fix a few things first.
