1. Do NOT move out of the house if your name is on the deed. Even if you have to live in the basement. DO NOT MOVE OUT OF THE HOUSE. IF you do, you will be at a huge loss. In fact, ALL decisions in the divorce will be hinged on this one fact. If you move out. You're f***ed. If you've moved out, move back in. It's your house. If she's abusive. Call the cops and get it documented. If you're abusive. Cut it out. You need to be in that house. If one of you needs to move out, make her move out. If you have kids, keep the kids with you IN THE HOUSE. I can't emphasize enough that staying in the house will impact every single other decision made as part of the final order.
2. Stop all joint accounts - immediately. Set up your own accounts. Don't hide anything. It hurts, but it hurts less than if you are caught hiding something. And believe me, they'll find it if you're hiding it.
3. get a lawyer - immediately. get one that knows the county you are in. better yet, get one that knows the judges that handle family law. If you can't afford one. You're f***ed. Plain and simple. beg borrow or whatever to get a lawyer that knows his stuff.
4. Do NOT move out of the house.
5. Do NOT move out of the house.
