I love modding...

..Oh, Btw, this is kind of continuation of my previous blog entry...

I've been doing quite a bit of modding lately. Most of the things I like to mod are additions and changes to the base game to make it look better and feel more immersive. The first thing I usually do is change the character skeletons, meshes and textures. I add a few environmental tweaks, things to make the user interfaces friendlier and more efficient, etc.

I LOVE new armor and weapon mods, who doesn't. Now, the next thing I'm going to say may alienate some of the people out there...

... WHY ARE THERE SO MANY "ARMOR" MODS THAT MAKE THE WOMEN LOOK LIKE REJECTS FROM CIRCA 1985 METAL VIDEOS????

Now, I shall explain. I like women, particularly attractive ones. Probably why I married one. And about half or even more of my play-throughs on games (if the option is there) will usually be a female character. I actually prefer to play with a female character. My wife asked me about that not too long ago. Here is my explanation...

Unlike some of my gamer buddies I don't think of the character I'm playing as "me" really.  I think of myself more as a malevolent god, pulling the strings of my puppet and watching them do my bidding... probably says more about me than I care to admit but oh well. So, carrying on with that thought, if I'm going to be staring at someone's ass for a few hundred hours of my life I'd like it to be a woman's ass. Sorry, but looking at the back end of a dude... not appealing to me.. to each their own.

However, just because I'd like the backside to look nice, it doesn't mean that I want them to be naked or next to naked (not all the time anyway). I think it ruins the immersion. After all, I'm usually killing everything in my path in more and more imaginative ways. To that end I want my weapons to look as good as possible (and as real as possible if they are based on actual weapons) and I want my armor and clothing to be what I'd probably want to use myself.

I'm pretty sure that if I were in a similar setting where every moment of my life was a struggle with death, I'd want some protection. Last time I checked, a g-string and nipple clamps didn't offer much protection.

No matter what stats you give it, if the torso and back is uncovered, it just isn't armor, it's a cry for help. Sorry, I look at those mods and I think, "Have they ever actually kissed a girl other than their mom before going to work at Arby's'"? Not that there's anything wrong with working at Arby's.

And it's not that I'm a hypocrite, if I have a choice between a really well done armor and a really well done armor that looks attractive, I'll choose the attractive one. But, I want coverage. I don't want my minion sallying forth into the forbidden wastes only to be thwarted from catching a fucking cold.

As far as a female character looking "sexy", they don't have to be dressed like a whore to be sexy. For example, while I thought Linda Carter looked hot as Wonder Woman in what little they had her wear I actually thought she looked better in her OSS office clothes (the 1940's era, Oh yeah).Besides,  Linda Carter can make a burlap sack look hot. Actually, a smart and confident woman can make anything look good. Betty Page and Marilyn Monroe didn't have to be naked to be sexy. THEY were sexy, not the clothes they wore.

The character's I'm playing need to be dressed in a realistic manner that befits the environment they are in, not some kind of pre or post-adolescent fantasy that I could just as well get from watching porn or watching my wife shower....

...sorry, drifted off for a bit. I like watching my wife shower.... did it again...

I'm not saying that people shouldn't be able to make whatever "armor" they want, that after all is the great thing about mods, making the game the way YOU want it to get the most out of it.

But, for me, I want a little more effort to immersion and less to masturbation.
