Ghost Recon Future Solder is not Ghost Recon

So last night I played the new Ghost Recon Future Solder beta.  Let me first say I like it.  I don't want anyone to get me wrong thinking I don't like it.  However, I was expecting Ghost Recon and this is not Ghost Recon. Ghost Recon has always been about the slow paced, use cover and environment, big map games.  Future Soldier is not this.  I would describe Future Soldier as Rainbow Six with a hint of Gears of War and Call of Duty.

You remember in RB6 and GRAW how oyu have to hold down buttons to get a menu ot change inventory, not in Future Soldier.  The controls are much like Gears of War and Call of Duty.

When I was playing Future Soldier I could not help but think it plays much like the Rainbow Six series.  It has RB6V2's cover system with the addition of running to the next cover point.  While run does exist in Future Soldier (and RB6V2) that doesn't turn it into a run and gun game.  You will need to use the cover system.  Unlike Uncharted where no one uses the cover system and everyone runs and guns.  Running and gunning in Future Soldier will get you killed.

It is still a team based game, you really can't commando it.  You can go commando, this one guy on our team did it last night and was a beast.  But the reason he could do it was we had a couple of engineers and drones up so he knew where the enemies were at.

The ranking system is interesting.  I wonder if they will balance it a little better.  I was getting more experience than anyone else per match yet I would only get 2-4 kills.  Why is that?  I was using my sensors and drone to mark enemies.  Apparently you get a ton of XP assisting your teammates.  One match I had around 5400 XP.  The next guy about 3800.  I think that is cool as I like playing support roles.  I do thinkt he drone is a little OP as it shows an outline of the enemy, not just marking where they are at.  So you know which way they are facing, what stance they are in, exactly what they are doing.

Now, I do worry about weapon balance.  I am fairly certain the Goblin SMG and the AK47u SMG had different stats.  One side has the Goblin and the other has the AK.  They have differnet stats and different upgrade options.  The AK has more stocks than the Goblin.  The Goblin can have burst fire.  That was the issue with RB6V2, the MP7 become OP and they really nerfed it.  I see them having the same issues.

Once I put the burst fire trigger one with a red dot plus upgrades to increase control.  That was damn near a sniper rifle.  I definitely saw I had the edge in medium rnage combat situations.

The beta currently has two maps, one in a small run down urban factory setting and one a forest setting.  Only one game type right now - a capture point game type.  You have to cap the point then defend it.  I am hoping there will be a whole bunch of game play options like GRAW has.  I doubt we will see a heli hunt but I am hoping they have a good variety.

The cover system is more splinter cell conviction than RBSV

And yeah, you get more points for teamwork and objectives than kills
