I remember sitting there in front of my Nes and for the hundred billionth time my lttle man perished by some impossible seeming obsticale or enemy. I like many of you out there cast our blame on the obvious and only plauseable reason we were unseccessful, the controler. I have smashed the button od D-pad with all my might, hit the controler aginst whatever hard surface was readily availible, launched it as far as the attached cord would let it(it did get revenge once as it sprung back and hit my lip) and even gone as far as to accuse the controler of some inannimate mallice for me! I will admit I have destroyed a coouple of contraollers in my younger days, but have long since accepted that it is rarely the controler and is almost exclusivly user error that was the harbringer of my own doom.

This weekend while I was enjoying a little xbox time with my boys, my middle son got completly owned by my youngest playing Halo Reach. This is a rare and somewhat profane occasion, according to my middle son. He imidatly goes on a little tiraid about how thats impossible, he cant do that, and ultimately tells me there must be something wrong with the controller. Upon hearing this I burst out laughing because I havent heard anyone blame a controller in years. Of course my son thinks I'm laughing at him and gets really upset. Into daddy mode I go and avoid the total meltdown, crisis averted! Being the responsible parent I am I gather my three boys in a circle and reagle them with tales of video games past and how much better they have it. I even drug out my system that plays both nes and snes games, both of my orriginal systems long worn out. I have only let my oldest play with it a few times. They spent the remainder of the day playing the old games and it really made me stop and smile to see the looks on thier faces as they discoverd the roots of video games. I think next weekend i may just hook up the old Attari and let them see what it was like when  I was just a wee lad.

I know its important to get outside and be active and play like children should. I certainly dont want them living inside and in a fantasy world of video games. I want my kids to be well rounded men, but DAMN it was fun reliving my videogame childhood with my boys at my side. I havent felt that elated in such a very long time. Its days like those that remind me of how blessed I am to have those three little treasures!
