Crimson Map pack - a preemptive rant

So I watched the video and checked out the gallery pics,  I must say that I'm not really excited for the maps.  All 3 seem to be a BTB addition.  with vehicles on all 3.....

Shatter is their Large map addition.  adding another big map.  I don't play BTB much but for those that do I am sure this is a welcomed addition.  

Harvest is labeled a Small to Mid sized map.......  it has Warthogs and ghosts,  How small can this map be?  Haven Adrift and abandon are small to mid maps in my opinion and even then I think abandon is bigger than a Mid sized map just because of all the realestate on the map on the "Beach" area.  IN a game already lacking smaller arena maps I hope they start using some forged maps to add more arena style maps in.

Wreckage is labeled a Medium sized map.  Again,  Wathogs and large driving lanes..... Solace to me is a medium map.  Much like Narrows but too much crap in the middle of it.  

 

I hold no Hope for this Map pack. 

Where are the map builders of old?  The symmetrical maps that were made just for 4 v 4 games.  Maps like Zealot,  Construct,  Beaver creek, Midship, sanctuary, Warlock, and so on.  I am sure the forgers have been out there making remakes of these or even coming up with their own smaller 4v4 maps.  Do I want remakes.... NO,  No i don't but I do want maps made for that arena 4 v 4 style. Quick Game pace,  Team work and team shooting from every angle,  breaking out of a base with your team because a team knocked you into your base.  Where are these maps?

 

Maybe it is only me looking for 343i to bring out some of these things or hoping they look to community created maps to populate a very dismal map set for this sect.  Am i alone here or is anyone else thinking the same things?

I am thinking the whole deal smells rotten.  They have our money, and are doing whatever the fuck they want with MP.  It's like an entire deparment full of CliffyB's.

Bungie turned away from the medium sized maps that aren't a clusterfuck when Ghost Town came out for Halo 3.  I wouldn't have expected anything special from Bungie if they were still at the helm.

Lets never speak of Ghost town again.  The other pressing question is.  If this map pack is such a dismal failure for players like me looking for smaller 4v4 maps,  What makes me think that the other map packs will be any better?  Also,  The next pack drops in Feb. sometime,  we have to wait until then for more arena maps potentially to be used in MM?  

 

Guess I can hold my Hopes for a good set of maps, settings, and gametypes from MLG and a Playlist to go along with them.  343i will hopefully understand that not all players looking for 4v4 style of comp play want MLG style play.  MLG anymore is such a perverted form of the game,  which is why their reach in the Halo community has dminished to only those looking for their style of play.

I think 343 is done with the classic competitive game style. Its unfortunate because that was my favorite gaming style, but I more than willing to try to adapt to the new mindset that 343 has.

I agree but having played a bit of H4 now I think the style we want is dead. Sprint and DMR have extended the mid-range combat to ridiculous lengths like 5 shotting across the width of Ragnarok I don't think you could have much fun on Midship now. Ordinance means that both teams have two or three power weapons on the go by mid game. Thats why Zealot and Haven have to be sort of circular to shorten the sight lines down.

 

They want a clusterfuck of non stop action where everybody has a K/D of 1.0.

Agreed, but that's what's in the playlist, no?  They made the change from 4v4 for Slayer to 5v5 for objective for some reason, no?  It could simply be that's what the masses want.

Fire I feel your pain and I wish there was a way to satisfy both communites equally but we only have to look back at REACH and Halo 3 before it for answers. The population numbers are all in BTB , Infection and Team Slayer. Now look at Infinity Slayer and BTB Infinty Slayer on Halocharts. Same story.  Most players want medium to big maps with vehicles. That's the Halo the bulk of the population likes. They are also the least likely to be posting in forums too. You've seen the tweets. 343i is most likely bringing out smaller maps in the February DLC. That's not long from now and the competitive community is already fielding some maps. I think the competitve community is capable of making a go of it. All in all, I think we are ahead of what REACH had to offer in the same time frame.

That's the thing.  We've already had a title where those maps were summarily ignored, and the burden of creating them was placed on the community.  Here we are again, except this time, with fewer respurces currently at our disposal to do so.

 

Also, mildly off-topic: Infinity Slayer is Fiesta Slayer.  Would anything, rebranded as the normal, vanilla mode be the vastly played and chosen gametype?

There is a small hope the variety of Forgeable environments will spawn enough maps for competitions. Not a big hope in my opinion. My experience with Forge is showing the framerates issues are possibly worse than in REACH. As for Infinity gametypes, 343i has hit the ball out of the park. I guess we should ask ourselves if we would change the formula if it were our profits on the line. Slayer Pro is typically the least popular. It's so low it should be removed already but you know, politics.

It's consistantly lower. FFA Throwback is low too but it's a temp list anyway. Oddball is close but it's a core gametype plus they put development into it. It's not going anywhere just like Invasion. Slayer Pro, who is that aimed at? I even see competitve types carping about it.

Don't agree with Dixon:)

 

FFA throwback is stupid with only oddball and koth. I wish I would of got this game 3 months from now because right now it just doesn't feel finished. Not enough maps,  no rank, broken file share(I don't think its broken I think 343 is holding it back to get people to buy DLC), lag. 

 

They need to add community maps, multi-team, snipers, normal FFA, BTB objective, combine 5v5 objective playlists, get rid of Slayer Pro for MLG or community created playlist, ranked playlists, in game stats, ect.

Just because the promo pic includes vehicles on it, does not make it a bad map.

This was the first image ever shown of what map? I'll give you a hint...it's Lockout. Taken from an area that does not get that particular kind of play on it. I don't remember really fighting all that often from sword spawn.

All I'm saying is give the maps a chance. Promo vids and images have no bearing, usually, on how the map is actually played.
