Little late to this part and I missed the actual stream but was just catching up on their website and couldn't believe the things marketing lead with:

"Sharp corners and clean lines make for a sleek, modern console that complements any decor. Xbox One was designed from the ground up to be the centerpiece of every living room."

Oh and this:

"Xbox One was designed for gaming. And the best game developers in the world are taking full advantage of all that Xbox One can do."
i frakking hope so.  If its core isn't a gaming console then how about you pick a new freakin' name for it?!
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xboxone/what-it-is

Way to stir up the ire of your core audience.  Good show Microsoft. Good show!  Who was this press conference aimed at?  Seems to be not us!

Name : Meh... it's not really catchy i liked fusion or infinity a lot more but whatever it's just a name

design: OMG could it be any bigger do you think?  It looks ginormous

software: the dashboard doens't really look too much different thatn what we have now but it looks way faster and i liked the side by side thing/multi tasking and switching between different things.  I'm a little concerned about how much power that much suck away from game use though.

kinect : it looks like it's got a very significant role in the new system being the hub for connected devices and control for the system.  Only one camera instead of 3, it can tell your heart beat, measure weight distribution too...  pretty creepy yet awesome as well I think.  I just hope that smeone else saying 'watch tv' while i'm playing a game won't switch on me

always on: thought not addressed direclty , they said 'cloud' multiple times in the presentation hinting towards ya it's always on.  But to what degree was not talked about during the reveal

controller : i like it, nuf said.  It looks awesome.

other: i kinda of like that i could skype with my brother while we played some coop simultaniously on-screen, not have to use like a tablet to video conference and use the console for the game we're playing

Saw an interview after.  Not always on in terms of always connected to the internet.  Not sure about the Kinect.

I thought the name is pretty nifty.  All in ONE?  Or the ONE to rule them all?

From a non American point of view it was very US centric as this was a worldwide reveal I found that disappointing...The box itself looks like it was designed in the 80's, frankly ugly. Not at all fussed for all the TV stuff, the way the stream constantly buffered showed just how pointless that is for those of us with slow connections and data caps. Not enough game play showed and I guess we have to wait until E3 to see more, that is a shame and shows it's game console roots have become a thing of the past and it is trying hard to take over the living room in a way that I really don't need. I have no problem turning over channels on my TV, or recording what I want at the press of a button on my remote. What we saw of COD looked good, Forza I have still no idea but what I saw didn't make me want to rush out day one to buy...So all in all for me the jury is still out.

+1 to all of that Tank..

Plus - I'm not a Kinect user and I dont watch much TV so I dont care about the "All in ONE" entertainment stuff, I just want a really good gaming system.

from IGN on scene:

Has HDMI pass-thru to work with cable boxes

No external power brick, everything is internal

Even though it looks huge, it's not much bigger than the current generation and has a ton of venting, it's suppose to run almost silently

I wasn't that impressed with the car graphics in Forza until they did the up-close and you could actually see the dymanic paint speckle on the cars, that made me go wow....  Also the facial details in COD Ghosts looked freak'in amazing too.

I guess when all is said and done though, does Xbox One really seem like a huge leap forward?  Almost everything they showed, we can do now with 360.  It's just a more integrated faster version with a few new bells and whistles.  Which to be honest, the xbox 360 was exactly the same, it took the xbox, xbla, the media center connector and live and just improved upon them, integrated them better and added soem extra bells and whistles.

I feel like the no back-compat was already pretty well known and expected.  Its not something i personally care about at all.  It's a total non-issue to me.

That was the least of it, it's the paying MS extra bucks to play second hand games that stinks.

Another problem with this: if every game has to be installed, and MS is putting in a 500 GB drive stock, how long before you have to buy the 1 TB drive that will be at least triple the amount of the actual hard drive because MS wants to go proprietary?

Yes that crossed my mind too. All these games are going to be huge amounts of data, add to that saves, replays and all the other stuff that clutters up the HD and 500MB will be eaten in no time.

Assuming you will not have the full 500 gb's when you take it out of the box and the new game discs are 50 gb blue ray (os and other shit on it), I would say anywhere from 8-10 games. Probably closer to 8 then 10.

I am assuming they will have 2 sku's at launch, one with the 500 gb and one with a Pants off Dance off Uber l337 terabyte or more.

From Knight's link to Kotaku:

The next Xbox won't require an Internet connection to function, but could very well block used games, unless you feel like paying Microsoft some extra cash.

Wired got a look at Xbox One before today's big reveal, and they say that games will require installation to use. “On the new Xbox, all game discs are installed to the HDD to play,” Microsoft told them.

But games will be tied to an Xbox Live account, Wired reveals—or else you'd just be able to pass games around to everyone you know. And if you want to link a game to a second account, you'll have to pay a fee:

Considering my 360 has barely been used for anything other than streaming Netflix for the last few years and I do almost all my gaming now on PC it's hard to get excited about this.  I'm sure I'll get one at some point, but not at launch.

A question that I had based on a very quick statement I saw on that stream (if anyone has details) was a quick screen shot and mention of what looked to be Live matchmaking opposed to in game matchmaking. It was on and then off really quickly and I had to come back to work so couldn't watch it again...anyone else catch that?  Is matchmaking going to be native to Live instead of th actual game itself?

"Microsoft did say that if a disc was used with a second account, that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc, which would then mean that the new account would also own the game and could play it without the disk"

But what if you just leave the disk in like normal?

It seems that no games will run from the disk, they have to be installed to the HDD. at least that seems to be what is being said.

From the Major Nelson Architecture Panel:

Kinect field of view 60% better, can see 6 skeletons instead of 2.

Sensor can be used in much smaller rooms

Can read you facial expressions

Box uses a virtual architecture, there's two Virtual Machines, one is dedicated just to gaming with a fixed amount of cpu/gpu/ram dedicated to gaming.  The other runs all the apps, video, all that other stuff.

There will be some cloud offloading of latency non-sensitive processing to help free up more resources on the box

chips will scale power consumption appropriate to what's being done on the system

802.11 abgn,  multi usb3, HDMI in & out 4k 3d surround support, consumer electronics control supported

achievements can be added post-launch more easily to reflect how players play the game so they're much more dynamic

Every game must be installed and can be played while installing.  After install, the disc is not needed.

That is exactly why there must be a fee for a second account using the disc.  You see, otherwise one person buys one copy of a game, and thousands of people borrow it, install it, and pass it on.  Then thousands can play the game for free because of one single purchase.

That's why they require a fee.

Yes a very clever way of killing off the second hand game market with an innocent look on their corperate faces.

Pass on both the PS4 and the Xbox One for at least a couple years.   I just don't feel there is going to be enough compelling exclusives.  Which to me defines the identity of a console and does a lot to secure my attention to early adopt either machiine's at launch.   So far based on this presentation the Xbox One is the same third party software focused, Comptetitive FPS and Sports game centric console that the 360 was.  Couple this with the same nickle and dime tactics like pay to play online and their added fee to play used game's, that Microsoft is famous for makes owning one and my current gaming PC pretty redundant.   Still I'm not downing the machine as a whole.  Microsoft knows their stuff when it comes to online multiplayer and community features.  If these things are a focus when it comes to gaming I'm sure the Xbox One will fit the bill completely.  It comes down to games of course and if Microsoft and Sony both focus on exclusives that speak to teh type of gamer I am then I sure as hell will own both eventually.  I'm just going to try to be patient and diciplined and not give into new tech hype which my PC is helping greatly to do.   Going to be a interesting couple of years to see them duke it out for dominance and hopefully we the gamer/consumer come out on top in the end.  E3 is going to be really entertaining this year that's for sure.

That Fee to play one game on the same box that has multiple accts. fucking sucks. So I guess the future of Xbox game rentals is over.
