Hey guys, I will miss tonight's racing.  I am taking the wife and kids to see Rise of the Guardians.  Also, I recently switched back to my Elite for GT5 (stronger, smoother force feedback in GT5) but one of the motors failed over the weekend.  It would just piss me off if I ran it with the rough and weak force feedback it now has.  I do have the T500RS, but its paired with my second set of Clubsport pedals, which will not work on the PS3 with the T500.  I just bolted the Clubsports to my wheel stand and unbolting them would be a real chore.  I know, I know, excuses, excuses....frown

We'll find out in an hour or so. Parcells questioned whether to run this week or not and the consensus was yes so I'll be taking names of those who dont show up without a valid reason like Inka and Craig both provided.

Parcells..Fun but Excruciating...Mark this down if you haven't already...Don't EVER let me pick a car..tires or anything else..I thought we would have some fun with the Vette and put on some soft tires for sticking. Like a DUMB ASS little did I know that you or maybe that is the way it is (On Thursday Night) that the tires wear out. I know some of the guys at Forza run these races (I Never Did..Have a Hard Enough Time When they Don't) but little did I know that Thursday night races the tires wear out...Shit if I knew that the soft tire would be the LAST tire I would pick...Well...LIVE & LEARN for a DUMB ASS like ME!!!surprisesurprisesurprise

Parcells..Been Thinking..That's Dangerous!...I always thought I had a issue with the skid recovery because it seemed the back end would kick out repeatedly..Here it might have been because I had no tires left..I got to laugh at myself..What a Dumb Ass!!!laughlaughlaugh

Agreed Wheels you're too old to be worrying about thinking, let us do that for you. We were wondering if you left because of the catastrophe that was the tyres dropping off in the Cape Ring race but you should have stuck around. You see a few weeks ago GT5 had an update that allowed us more tyre options with respect to wear rate and we promptly set it to the fastest wear rate. Clearly in that race with that powerful car and soft tyre's it was too much so we changed it back the next race and no more degrading issue to the extreme level we seen at Cape Ring.

Once the tyre's wear down to nothing you're grip is essentially zero and most of us drove around the last lap praying we could keep the car on the track barely breaking 50 MPH...on the bright side Parcells grabbed 4-5 positions on the last lap :)

Parcells...You know I need a Concierge Thinkerlaugh..I dropped out so you guys could move on and fortunately you did and rectified the issue immediately....Made me Proud!!!...Good Man!!!... I am in for next weeks race..As you have stated it should be fun knowing what is in store with the traction degradation.laughlaugh

P.S. Wheels is starting to think Parcells is a Player...First..Skid Control..Second..Tire Wear...While Parcells Hovers in Wait Ready to Pounce!!!!....Excellent Thinking!!!

Seeing as how fun the race at Cape Ring was last night are you guys up for a couple endurance races this Thursday? Was thinking a couple (or who knows?) races 20-30 minutes in nature, put on soft tyres and the tyre wear to very fast requiring us to make one (maybe even two) pit stop to add some strategy to the race.

Last night it was a very painful experience for us but if we go in knowing what to expect we wont be caught off guard like we were last night.

If you guys are up for it I'll find a car and track etc. that will add some strategy. Thinking a stock car (RX-7 anyone?) with soft tyres or maybe I'll build something but first lets see if the interest is there.

So far we have myself and Wheels on board! smiley

I like the endurance race idea, particularly if the tracks are Spa and Nurburgring.  I am not sure though, whether I will have my replacement Elite by then.  Fanatec might ship it as early as today from its warehouse in California, but I don't know whether it will get here by next Thursday, due to the holiday.

Thats one in favor and enough encouragement for Parcells. Picked a car I have never run before the EVO X TC, comes fully equipped all you need to purchase is sport soft tyres.  Been in my garage who knows how long? it wouldn't allow me to gift it - hope its not DLC?

I'll update the number of laps tomorrow or the next day but suffice it to say it will be when your car runs out of gas which during my practise of Motegi was the same time my tyres were almost completely dead. Point being you will be able to finish these races without pitting (based solely on Parcells practise -> driving my normal) if thats a strategy you wish to deploy.

We'll do 3 races but if everyone doesn't have the Motegi DLC we'll run the optional Tokyo track.

EVO X TC is a DLC,  it was part of the "racing car pack (15 cars)".

Well that bites. Car was really nice to drive with zero tuning which I had planned on. I guess no spec car this week but still feeling like an endurance race...we can use a recommended car.

I'm out tonight.  Tonight is the pre-season practice at Race2Play for the FABCAR/NAGT series that kicks off tomorrow night w/ a 90 minute race at Brands Hatch.  I'm switching to an Aston Martin (from the Pontiac GTO) for this season and have a lot of bugs to sort out prior to tomorrow evening as I try to defend my championship.

Perhaps next week.  Cheers.

I also am out tonight guys.  My replacement Elite is scheduled to arrive today, but I don't know whether I will have it set up in time to join all of you fine gentlemen.  Also, Oregon is playing in the Fiesta Bowl tonight and I plan to watch the game with my wife and kids.

I will be back in my Playseat next week for GT5.

Thanks!

No worries fellas we all have real lives. AND we still had 7 guys last night...you know, the real GT5 racers :)

until next week.

Caught most of the Oregon game Craig, seems I missed the only portion where Kansas State seemingly outplayed Oregon

The racing last night at Spa, with the pit stop, was definitely something I'd like to see more - I just need to learn where pit entrances are located! :) We should do a week where we have four 3-5 lap shoot-outs on small tracks, followed by a final 10-lap (or so) race at a large track like Spa, le Mans, etc. Definitely need to figure out how to make transition from day to night as well. I have done night races online at le Mans before, so I know it's possible - and fun!

Agreed. My intent for yesterday was to schedule a few longer races where a pit stop is pretty much required but I ended up testing a DLC car so had to cancel. I'll try to get something lined up for next week.

And just so everyone is aware...Contrary to what Dan thinks(said/quoted/rambled) he was not going to pass me when I was leading the 8 lapper at Spa half way through the final lap when I got disconnected...no way wasn't gonna happen :) !!!!

Last week Parcells erred and picked a DLC car…aint making that mistake again. Spreadsheet has been updated and we’re running some strategy races this week. The car is a mostly loaded EVO X GSR – 07 with sport soft tyres.

The tyre wear will be set to “very fast” so your tyres will wear down by the end of the race. However you will be able to finish every race without pitting and you will not run out of gas (based on Parcells test sessions -> I’ve done it racing my normal). Pitting or not pitting strategy will be very close. I’m testing each track to ensure this…again based on my driving style, may be different for you. I’ll update the number of laps for the last two tracks before Thursday and let you guys know my results…probably Wednesday night. For now here are my results…

Rome – 15 laps – no joke, my times were identical

Autumn Ring - 11 laps – pitting strategy 5 seconds quicker

Motegi East – 14 laps – pitting strategy 8 seconds quicker

Tokyo -  10 laps – did not test pit strategy, educated guess is the same time

NOTE: The above results are based on NO tuning of any parts other than the final gear ratio.

Updated the above post with results of the tracks. Autumn ring really eats the tyres up. The safe approach for all tracks will be to pit but will be interesting to see.

GT2 /CSP retired, GT2 has a few issue's that needs to be dealt with.  Forza is done for awhile, but G27 came out of retirement for GT5.  I will let you know how it goes, G27 need some practice before the big game tonight.

I tested the G27 this afternoon. 15 laps in Rome, which is one of the races we are doing tonight.  Sadly the G27 crapped out on the last lap, I couldn't believe my luck, 2 defective wheels in a couple of days.  Then I realized, I ran out of gas, phew.  Parcells or Parcels we should reduce the laps to 14 in Rome.  Wish I had my GT2 tonight.

Thtas a good one Mark. May I recommend you go with a pit strategy on Rome cause the laps aint changing :) In that regard Rome was the hardest on gas...see below

Rome - Got half way through lap 16 before running out of gas

Motegi - Ran out of gas crossing the finish line on my 15th lap

Tokyo - Still had some gas left after 11 laps

Autumn Ring - quarter tank left after 11 laps

Rome is the worse Motegi a little better but the last two would be very hard to run out of gas.

Gonna try to run all 4 tracks tonight guys. Most races are 20 minutes, Autumn Ring about 15.
