Is it possible we could have a new topic with just links to information? then talk about it here. There's a lot of bs to Wade through here to get links ect
The 360 may need an always on connection for online play, but not for offline and it does not need to connect every 24 hours, I have a connection that can go down for days at a time so what happens to my console then? As for a data cap of 250Gb I would kill for that, mine is 40Gb. Irrelevant? I don't think so! Nor do I have the wherewithal to buy everything that comes out. So I budget where it gives me the best return. As for peripherals how about 750 for Steering wheel and pedals? Another 150 or so for a decent headset. This is not paid for in daily micro payments but one huge chunk..
At no point did I say it would have no games and as for price well you Yanks always get a better deal on this stuff that we do, often prices translate $ for € . But that is not really my issue.
So you can see with a Data Cap of 40Gb it would be nigh on impossible to maintain the data needs of both the Console and my PC, I am already pushing the limit most months with the PC and my main passion Sim Racing,
I see they are expecting a lower take up, and I suspect this is due at least in part to that need for a large data allowance. There is a huge amount of people that do not have access to reliable unlimited internet.
See I don't think it's strange people want one, nor do I spend time telling them how I shake my head at them for wanting one, or make up reasons why they are deficient in some way for wanting one.
For me it's the 1000 plus I spent on Sim Racing gear that wont work on the One, My internet connection that is not up to the job, I am uncomfortable with the Kinect needing to be...connected. More than half it's functionality is irrelevant to me (So a waste of resources, and they wont even work outside the US at launch) and last but least...Damn it's ugly.

Sorry Knight, as we don't have location info in V3 I didn't realize you weren't in the US. I suppose that's MS's primary focus. However even with 40GB you can play online 24/7 and not pass that. If you're buying discs instead of downloading full games, you shouldn't have to worry about cap issues. Gaming does not take very much bandwidth. Also if as you say you don't buy that many games, again another reason the cap may not affect you.
Though I think you decided to switch fully to PC, so probably a moot point.

There is a whole move towards DLC, more over many companies release online only with no DVD at all, this is a huge Data hog, I know the actual gaming up to now has been the smallest part of my usage, but with data steaming in from the cloud will this remain the case? Try a month at 40Gb, I have to allocate 25 gigs of that for my duties as an internal tester for a software Co. leaving 15Gb for everything else. Watch a movie online? No we have no DVD hire shops anywhere near us, and that's another three or four gigs gone. Phone app updates, Tab app updates, Windows updates and Software updates and day to day use takes care of the rest. Did I say I didn't buy many games? Compared to some maybe not, but I do buy I suppose forty a year, not insignificant. I will be interested to see what the Ones data use is once it's out, especially the off loading of data processing and the resulting return of data from that.
My Wheel costing €500 only weeks ago was licensed by Turn Ten of the Forza franchise and Microsoft, it seems reasonable to me that it should continue to work on Turn Ten and Microsoft products. Especially as the core of the One is Windows 8. This is not a 29.99 joypad. It will work on the PS4 for Gods sake. So you like cheap headset? Fine I don't, and I might add the wired headset will not play with the Wheel. I still hold out some hope that that will change and if it does I may pick the One up second hand down the line to play with my Forza buddies that don't also race PC.
This is not a PC V Console thing it's this console is not right for me.

This is not a PC V Console thing it's this console is not right for me.
What is a console that is right for you? I'm unclear what you actually want. There are no details on how much data it will require, so making a decision off that is uninformed. Are backwards compatible third party accessories the deciding factor on a new console?
Just trying to understand exactly what it is you would want in a console

Let me try for you Knight…
Knight (like Parcells and a whole other bunch of people it appears) want their consoles to play games and games only. We have no desire for integrating our gaming system into other areas of our life and we do not care for Kinect features in our games or as a voice recognition system. We are not interested in the direction MS is taking with the XBoxOne which is clearly a media/social entertainment system for “a whole lot of things” that are not directly related to gaming.

How do things you do not use diminish the games you are interested in?
There are absolutely millions of programs and things to buy on PC. Does that mean I will never buy another PC or play games on it? I've not come close to using all the things Xbox 360 offers, even for free. Doesn't make games more or less fun either.
I guess I don't get why things that aren't used, and thus won't affect you, would cause the things you do want which are more than ever (games) to be less enjoyable.
I don't like the seafood at a local chinese restaurant, but that doesn't mean I refuse to eat the noodles and chicken.
Besides, the "other things" that don't interest some people might be exactly what causes the console to cost less than expected! Who wouldn't want more games than ever with an unexpectedly affordable price?

They do not diminish the gaming interest in the slightest but that still doesn’t change the reality that some people are not interested in purchasing something that has more features that will never be used vs. the one or two features they are interested in.
While not an entirely apples to apples comparison I wouldn’t buy a car that has more bells and whistles than I want/need, same goes for a watch, a phone, lots of things and I’m not finding it difficult to understand why Knight knows today he is not interested in the XBoxOne.
From a personal standpoint everything this new system will do I will never use except for the gaming aspect (but definitely no Kinect games) but whether I buy it or not has nothing to do with the system or features. If or when the majority of my Forza brethren move to FM5 AND if my Fanatec wheel works on FM5 then I will definitely be getting the XBoxOne. Unless or until both of those become reality this system is offering nothing beyond what I have today.
Its probably relevant and even fair to say that us SIM racing gamers are of a slightly different breed than your typical gamer (whatever typical is, I don’t really know) and in my case I have enough unfinished/unplayed 360 non-racing games to last me a decade (NOT an exaggeration) so missing out on what I fully expect to be another watered down version of Forza is a no brainer.

Would you buy that car that has more features if those additional features you would never use, but they lowered the total price of the car?
That seems to be what is happening here. More games than ever on Xbox, and features that make them want to target a much lower price, but people who want games are completely unwilling to pay less for more games.
I have a really, really hard time understanding that kind of thinking. I know there are features I have no intention of using on it. I'm all about games - which is EXACTLY why I was glad to hear they have more games in development for Xbox One than at any other time in Xbox console history.
Don even said they were considering not showing the Black Tusk game because they didn't want to overwhelm people with how many games they will show at E3. Yet people who want to play games on a console won't buy it because they want to play games?
If some guy at Microsoft gets caught for spying on me playing Halo 6.5, it will be far more devastating to Microsoft and to that guy than it will be to me. I have absolutely no concern whatsoever about misuse of this.
I don't think it was ever said that accessories would carry over to a new generation, but if a sour taste from that is what makes one go to a different platform and buy things there that may not be future proof how can I debate such a thing?
In the end, I am most interested in games. Xbox One will have tons of them, including new gameplay. At this point would any amount of games or any price point change people's minds who want to play games? It seems unlikely...
Would you buy that car that has more features if those additional features you would never use, but they lowered the total price of the car?
Yes I would UNLESS one of those unwanted features was an always on Kinect device.
And who are you kidding Autarch? From where Parcells sits, you could debate just about anything albeit the moderator may have to get you back on point from time to time :)

I do like discussion, yeah. Especially about gaming since that's one of my most frequent hobbies.
I don't think I've gone off track from Xbox One and discussions related to that, such as its features, games, links to interviews and official quotes about the system, its cloud servers...
I've certaintly not said others are paid to state their opinions, or dropped porfanity laden responses. I simply enjoy talking about video games. I like hearing what others say about the topic at hand too. If they say something I don't understand, I ask for understanding while trying my best (usually with many words) to illustrate why I am having trouble understanding what they said.
In the end, we're an adult community with a gaming focus. If I do start swearing at people and such you can feel free to call in a moderator to review if that is out of line with the community or thread. If I do not do that, all I ask is that we discuss video games and offer our viewpoints - especially about the Xbox One which is this thread topic.
Skype is now -rumored- to allow remote control play. Take control of someone elses game if they want you to do that, either player can terminate the remote play at any time.

Just out of curiousity. What's your dog in this hunt? For every person that state's their reasons for not wanting the One, you seem to have some long reply trying to convince them of the errors in their ways. Why does it offend you that much that you have to have a reply to everyones disagreement?
Are you the "one up" guy in real life? Always the one who has a better story than everyone else? Just the since I get from reading all your replies.

I'm simply not a fan of irrationality. I enjoy reason. Conspiracy theories and knee jerk reactions are what I consider polar opposites of thoughtful reasoning.
I've already said that reasons people have brought up are valid concerns. Data caps around the world for example are something that should be officially addressed. Not everyone has them, and those that do might have a very low cap. It would be unfortunate to have the console sold in a place where it would require exceeding data caps through relatively light, normal, use of it.
Microsoft's main shortcoming as I see it is in their communication. I believe they should have had prepared FAQ pages on the Xbox homepage for people to review that would offer very detailed answers to these questions, with examples. Leaving them unanswered and telling people to wait for any answer is not what I consider good communication with potential customers.
I am not offended that people do not want to purchase the console - I simply am a fan of reason and logical decisions. Things like a data cap it would easily exceed, or critical services/abilities being unavailable in a region, or if it ends up having an enormous price are things I completely understand, for example.
I am not the "one up" guy in real life. I'm too introverted to try and top people's stories. I'll make a timely joke or a facepalm worthy pun though.
Now I'm going to go run some errands, taking my cell phone with me. It includes GPS and requires cell service, which I'm completely sure means people are tracking my every movement through a network of satellites and ground based triangulation while building a profile of where I shop and my recent large investments in Tin.
Hope that helps, but if you'd like you can PM me for more information so we don't derail the thread further.

People who hate netflix I guess?
Man, by now you can collect your $5,- loyalty-check from MS. Seriously.
-Xbox = gaming. Xbox One isn't gaming. It's a 'I don't know what I want to be, so Imma gonna be it all' Netbox-thingy with nazi-restrictions. No, I don't wanna watch tv-shows on my console. I don't want to be greeted by a page full with advertizements for stuff I don't give a flying fuck about.
For your information... buying membership on PC-oriented services gets rid of adverts! They don't fucking drop a metric shitton more on you.
I want the freedom to mothefucking do what I motherfucking want to when I motherfucking want to do it, without some bullshit box anticipating what I want to do or whatever. I don't want to be watched, I don't want to be greeted, I don't want any motherfucking auxiliary bullshit and I don't want to frigging give my motherfucking entertainment center voice-commands. I want to play a motherfucking game.
What i'm reding this morning on USED GAMES is this:
-Install the game on your system and the license is tagged to your gamertag and system id
-Trade your game in at an authorized place and your license is revoked not allowing you to run the game anymore
-New person buys game and ONE sees it's a new additional activiation of that game, asks for some amount of money
-activiation money is divided between microsoft and publishers
No wonder EA and AV are showing love for the ONE. This kind of cut of the used games market could be huge revenue for them. Wonder if Sony will do something to level the playing field.

which Xbox are you talking about? Because the Xbox 360 you've been using for the past 8 years is all of what you just said. The One will have plenty of games, same as the 360. I don't get the outrage - if anything, it's way TOO similar to your current Xbox.

Don't make me laugh, your doing nothing of the sort, your just having a particular kind of fun. You constantly miss main points to focus on what you can pick at. Well I'm not playing anymore.
One last comment on the dude that managed 42Gb in three weeks, that is not 40 in a month, and you said a normal month is 100Gb a month. So my point stands. I don't get paid as an internal tester I do it for the love of the game I'm testing.

With regard to the not buying many games, your comment "Nor do I have the wherewithal to buy everything that comes out" made me come to that conclusion. Then saying 40 games seems like a shitload to me honestly. I feel like I buy quite a few games between retain and XBLA, but even with that I'd say 20 games a year tops.
With regard to the data usage - if you have to use 25GB of your 40GB for work, then maybe work should be paying for it or you should ask for a larger cap.
Because I was curious, I just checked my Comcast usage for May:
May 2013 Data Usage
Used
42GB
As of 5/24/2013*
42GB, and that ends in a week.
That's a low month for me to be sure - normally I'm around 100GB. But I download a lot of TV and Movies too. But just shows it can be done.
Xbox 360 and all the thousands of currency units of racing gear will still work after Xbox One launches. In fact, games will come out for Xbox 360 at least until 2017! The Xbox One does not include a kill switch for previous consoles and their accessories. Those will still function, and still get games and support.
I really wonder, looking back at the total history of video game consoles and their controllers and accessories, at what point did it become taken for granted any of those would work on a new generation console? I bought many controllers, a few chatpads, headsets, and things like that but never did I think they would just work on a new console generation. I had no reason to think that. That is why I didn't buy ultra expensive things, was because I was counting on these purchases being only for that console. I wasn't going to spend an excess on a platform believing it would carry over to a new console that hadn't even been officially mentioned as existing at that point.
Plus, my $20 regular headset was a lot better in voice quality and hassle than the one I bought that was a bit more expensive.
The data cap though is a real concern which could be hinting at why Microsoft may target USA first before anywhere else. Or, it might not and they've accounted for it and they are only delaying the live TV portion of the launch. I don't know, because nothing has been stated about it officially. It's a real concern that is understandable, but might work out fine for many people with a data cap depending on later information. Or, it might not. Right now with little to go on I can't make an informed decision about it becauase the informed part hasn't happened through information from Microsoft.
I don't think it's fair to knee-jerk once again about used game sales and assume private sales/trades are impossible now. Nothing has officially said that yet, but people are crying judgement day is upon us. How much more hassle is it really to have Gamestop scan a hologram barcode on a disc before telling you its value in store credit? Is that the ultimate doom? Or is the worst part how game companies get paid for their work?
If Microsoft officially says trades must happen through an authorized retailer, then feel free to make such a claim. Until then, it's knee jerk reactions at its finest.
I will continue to wait for official information to make decisions about, and only speculate and debate - not make decisions - about potential and unconfirmed points.
Less expensive than Xbox 360 at launch with more games than Xbox 360 at launch would be a no brainer purchase for me as a gamer. Plus, I'll keep my current Xbox 360 for its games, and for travel in the GAEMS case just like I have now. No big deal at all....
Just saw this and just can't seem to think what the mind set is at Redmond. "Hmmm... we make billions of $$$, we must make more. We shall squeeze every last drop of $$$ from the consumer."
And so all used games will have to go through a process to eradicate the prevoius owner and register new owner. This is going to have to require hardware/software that will have to be obtained though MS, even more $$$. This software/hardware will also ensure that MS gets cut of any resale of the used game.
I instantly start thinking, over my deadbody. Goliath was defeated by David. A favorite russian phrase comes to mind. "We will crush like bug." I don't see MS coming off as a winner here, too greedy. Instead of playing nice, they are pushing away people like me.
People who hate netflix I guess?
Take control of someone elses game if they want you to do that, either player can terminate the remote play at any time.
http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/24/rumor-xbox-one-to-feature-skype-remote...
^^ I like this guy.
I appreciate that one.
Good luck buying any electronics device these days. Do you own a PC? a phone? These do thousands of things I could not care much less about yet I like them for what I do want to use them for.
A simple, motherfucking game.
A motherfucking game.
Motherfucking.
Game.
Easy, no?
You may flag this as offensive. ^^
Chill out man. Have a beer.
Have fun, I'm out of here.
I didn't realize that until you just pointed it out. Looking at it, you are right.
Same here, done with this. Nothing good and no real conversation comming out of this thread.

Because I was curious, I just checked my Comcast usage for May:
Never mind,
Boobies are fun.
Check and mate. YEM, where did you get that? Make it yourself? I ask because that's what I see everytime I log on.
@Deep, It was on reddit
Short Interview with Microsoft's Don Mattrick:
