Pre-ordered an Xbone and a copy of Forza 5 today. Should we start a list of who will be on for Day One? I can edit the OP to add the list and keep it up to date.
Also, I'd like to hear what you guys think of xbox Smart Glass. I used it on my iPad with horizon and it was really cool. I just couldn't get into Horizon. What do you guys think it could be used for in FM5? Here are a few ideas I have:
- T10 could create a pit stop menu and racers could select what they want. Tires, fuel level etc.
- Use it to monitor telemetry instead of having your TV screen filled up and getting distracted.
- a live running list of competitors lap times, sector times etc. could be a little distracting. LOL
I know, they may not use it at all but I'm just thinking out loud here.
Sorry to burst the pitstop bubble but someone from t10 has apparently confirmed pitstops not a priority. Posted over at FM.net. was in an interview. Don't feel like getting dirty by delving into FM.net at the moment. Wormburner is locking everything down, the fascist ;)
I am bummed about that.
Looks like prettier graphics and a few new tracks might be all that's in it.
Right now I'm clinging on to the hope that the handling model might be a big step up and make it awesome.
Mind you we do get extended autovista ffs and drivatars which does in fact get my
That saddens Parcells. If they're not focusing on pit stops it seems less likely you'll be able to fix aero damage either which is a sad set back for this increasingly fake SIM racing game.
In the OP of that thread the guy seemd adament that no current 360 wheels will work on the XOne. Hopefully that's a misquote/mistake and they find a way to make the Fanatecs work and work well. No way in hell I'll ever race with a controller again and can't see spending god knows how much to essentially downgrade my wheel, it doesn't make much sense to me and I hope in the end that I'm wrong.
On the bright side Parcells may very well have a nice shiny new computer for PC racing this Christmas!
I wanna be clear on this. Because its starting to rub me the wrong way. I could give a crap about real sim racing, if I did I'd blow stupid amounts of money on it. I like the people I run with and the games more than adequate,
The constant cheer leading is getting on my nerves. Every post can't occur without a dig at Forza OR selling Pc racing. And I'd normally agree that 'm over reacting, but there's a PC forum where they love to hear it.
And I'm tired of how apparently inferior my choice of entertainment is. Mind you it really doesn't matter who does the cheer leading...and thees more than one.

Understood buddy. No more PC sim racing cheerleading from me. I for one do not feel that your choice of entertainment is inferior. If I did, why would I have already pre-ordered an Xbox One and Forza 5 for Day 1 release? I accept Forza for what it is, a simcade console racer with a a kick ass selection of cars and fantasy tracks, great painting tools, incredible social connection and lots of bling. I just was playing Forza 4 last night with my son and I just downloaded a big shot of the best road racing car in the world, the Cadillac CTS race car. Forza 5 will be a success simply if the graphics are improved (no more jaggies please) and they add some additional fantasy and real life tracks. That looks like its going to happen, hence my pre-order.
Bravo old school. For me its the people and games as well. Mostly people. Ive found my focus on the social aspect vs the game itself. Used to not be that way but I've found the older i get the more value I put on the people i click with.
I'm certainly not trumpetting the PC route mate. The whole is it sim/isn't it sim and PC vs Xbox vs PS leaves me cold.
For me, as I have previously stated, its the people here that keeps me coming back for more.
I was just expecting a little more than a freshening up of my beloved forza :( and freshening up is increasingly what its looking like. Even then.....
If the fanatecs work I'll be day 1 with you (the box is already preordered whatever happens)
If the fanatecs will work later on I'll be with you the second the converter? drops.
If the fanatecs don't work, I'll be with you guys just as soon as I can sneak the stupid amount of cash required to buy a new quality wheel past my wife. That might be a while.
If my wife catches me, I won't have somewhere to live to plug it all in
What will not happen is playing with a controller or plastic pedals. Rather eat my own feet.
Lawyer seriously, are you just trying to prove Oldschool's point.
I am not sure what you are implying Fitzy. If you are implying that I am being disengenuous, I suggest you back away from the keyboard and re-think your strategy. There is no bigger fan of the Forza franchise than me. I have invested hundreds of hours of my precious free time and thousands of dollars of my hard earned money in this series, starting with the Day 1 purchase of Forza 1 and continuing with the Day 1 purchases of every other game in the franchise. I also bought the Fanatec CSR and CSR Elite wheels, a second set of Clubsport pedals, a Rennsport wheel stand, a M$ racing wheel and other stuff I am not remembering now all to enhance my Forza experience. I have participated in many 2Old4Forza series. I have bought all Forza DLC. Period, and unlike you and several others around here, I never complained about the cost of it. Nothing is free in this world and the reality is that I have to pay something for hundreds of hours of entertainment. I have an Xbox One pre-ordered with Forza 5 locked and loaded.
I hope people don't think that when FM5 comes out FM4 is finished here. If we are smart we will convert the Horizon sub-forum in to a Forza 5 discussion forum and keep everything else the same and just run both side by side. Put both game events in the event area etc etc
Not what I meant Lawyer, sorry if it came across like that. I have little interest in the PC racing as the console racing suits me fine. I just get a little bit annoyed maybe unreasonably so when the guys who race on the PC talk about Forza and use terminology like "simcade" it just seems condescending to me. Maybe I'm mistaken and you don't mean it that way. As for putting my money where my mouth is as you so eloquently put it has nothing to do with it. If you can afford to do it fine, just not everyone can.

Understood. With regard to the financial investment, I have invested in the sim racing hobby at the expense of other recreation that a lot of 2old4Forza guys participate in, including music, cars and girls. When I say simcade, its a descriptive term, nothing condescending about it. It was coined by the ISR guys. It means that the game is a cross between sim and arcade, although Forza 1-4 are definitely more sim than Horizon. Many of the guys that have switched from Forza to PC racing use "Forza" as a perjorative term. I don't, never have, never will.

Well said Lawyer. I still love you too, just not as much as Oldschool.

Love you too Fitzy, in a gay way of course. And yeah, I am with you. I love Oldschool more than me too.

hmmm,...then my expression to purchase a computer for racing seemed to set things off, oh well group hug. I can still buy a PC for racing though right?

Yeah, although consider building it yourself. You can save a lot of $$$ and get a more powerful PC. And yes, you know enough to know how to build and configure a PC. Its pretty straightforward.

If you don't, some of the supply sites actually explain it all quite well.
You know, smartglass would be good to use with a track map during the race. Take it off the HUD and put it there. It could be much larger with much more info as well. Too bad no one wants to discuss this...LOL.

I tried using the iPad Smart Glass app with Horizon and it did not do anything for me. Seemed like a gimmick.

This is why I love Oldschool, that made me smile for quite a while. So are you saying it's not PC to talk about PC racing here?
