OMG! Seems like you would G out (black out) hitting speeds at those numbers! The best record I could find for modified production cars in the mile was Perfomance Power Racing's BADD GT (Ford GT) at 283.232. Twin Turbo V8 making 1850HP.
But the amount of power increase needed to gain 1mph at that speed is exponential, the amount of air you're moving out of the way is incredible. Do they have to run on regular tires? Didn't the article about the Aston say they think the top speed will be limited by tires?
I found that VX-R on youtube as well, thats one sexy Pro-Mod. Your right Nightfall, thats why these major Bonneville cars run a solid wheel/tire. Tires start to come apart after travelling so far at high speed because of heat and expansion. I think Capt. Slow made a remark about it when he made his speed run in the Bugatti on Top Gear. Also when running 280 mph with say 1850 hp you would need another 600 to 800 hp just to push that last bit of air. So if anyone does do it,it wll probly be a min. 2500hp.
