Model T please disregard my pm I just realised i mis-read your post and ran the bloody thing in the wrong PI car (998).
will run again tonight and ammend.
I'm confused.
I missed the TT but the build in the stage 2 post is 998, correct? How are the cars getting to 980?
I just went through the stock r1 cars and grabbed the one that was at 980. it's a mazda or mitsubishi i forget.
Something isn't right here. The car to run on the indiegp 30 lapper was the same Chevy as in the TT but you were allowed to tune it this time. >980pi was the setting for the other AI cars so that they were competitive with the Chevy. Either that or I have screwed up on this round.
that makes sense .. now i think i've ballsed it up again. *sigh*
Model T please can you calrify.. i'm properly confused now.
What car and at what PI are we supposed to run and what PI is the AI supposed to have?
If i have to run it all over again it'll have to be tonight.
AI set to 980...Chevy PI 998...tune what you want.

So.. I'm redoing the race and I'm up to lap 22 and I take a big knock but get no damage. So I get paranoid I haven't set it up right. I'm so worried about having to restart I shunt the guy infront of me and garner 39% damage. The driver tjen decides to ram me off the road and wreck my areo. So if u are ever in doubt if u set it up rught my advice would be, FINISH THE RACE BEFORE U WORRY ABOUT IT. I was lagging behind 1-2 secs a lap after the damage
Gutted.

I feel your pain. Just finished my race. Cut it a little to close trying to get by the 2nd place car during the first 1/3 of the race and took 14% damage to my rear bumper. Finished 6th. Cost me a whole 2 credits to fix it afterwards. But just lost that little control factor in the turns. Although it increased my top end speed on the straight. So my tune probably wasn't good enough. Picked it up from a SF somewhere. Thankfully, I will be using ZiggyProline's tune for the Viper next round. Uploaded up under ALMS2012INDYGP. With my time for all to see.
Will not open any pm until after the deadline. Mistakenly opened Poids. But won't rerun my race again.
For some reason I cann not insert this table in the 1st or 2nd post. Probably due to size constrants. So I will post the results here from now on. I have made a note in both posts 1 & 2.
If you follow the setup instructions to the letter this is what you will get. 30 laps at IndyGP. Your car will be any of the Chevy FLM09 cars. Add the extras listed to get any of them to a PI of 998. The 980 figure refers only to the AI cars. You will still be able to run the Chevy FLM09 cars. And you will still start from the 12th position. The setup of 980 limits the AI to a minimum of 980. That way you don't blow by them in the first few laps. You will have to work. And then you get to do it again after you do your required (mandatory) pit between laps 10-20. This way it is not a boring time trial race for the speedsters. And there is the chance for some wreckage if you try to take too many chances. One you set it up as per my parameters. Save the setup so you can redo it if you like. And you will also have it handy for when you are running a room in the future with clan members and then you just have to tweak it for the moment.
Damned AI is unbelievable, couldn't make it halfway without getting wrecked. Tried 4 times, I'm done...
It is a challenge. And it is something that you have to get used to. But once you do it becomes fun. I try to think like a RL driver. Would I do this or that in a RL situation? Most times I wouldn't and I wait until an opening presents itself. Knowing that one little mistake could ruin a nice run. I like the longer races too. Time to unwind and get into the flow.
Patience is the key. Wait a little longer before you try to squeeze through that opening which you know is too small to get through in RL. But if you do try and fail then just laugh and continue. It's only a game and it's for fun, right. So it's no big deal if you come in last. My first ever race years ago in the GTS class. http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=116491
And one just a year later, when I was still driving with Auto Transmission in the LMP and GT1 classes.
I blew out my transmission completely (100% damage) before lap 10 but still managed to get up to first place. I was running in the low 1:17's with a little aero damage (24%). Right before I grabbed the lead (lap 10 or 11) I suffered 47% aero damage and the car develpoed a bad push that I had to contend with. Lost .8 seconds per lap plus made a couple mistakes when I tried to push it too hard. I pitted on lap 15 and in hindsight, I should have pitted right on lap 10 to give myself time to catch the leaders. After pitting the aero damage was magnified by the fact that the tires were also cold. Obviously they don't pit so catching them was a struggle. I finished 9th about 32 seconds off of the leader. Not very impressive but I had a great time. It was lots of fun and it went relatively quickly with such low lap times. All in all the AI wasn't too bad. They hold their line so the incidents that caused the aero damage were totally on me. I just got a little too ambitious. I think it is most advisable to pass them on the outside when possible. Here's how I ran:
No Assists or Break Line with cockpit view, using a controller - I drove the Cadillac LMP, Love that car!
Some pics:
Got by the Audi but just ahead of me was an Acura (no photo) that I had to run down. Was forced to be patient and get him on the front straight away. This is early on so I had no aero damage, ...yet. What do you think of my livery?
And here is the pass on the Acura. I went so far wide that I came just inches from striking that tire barrier. That was at about 160 mph. One of the hairier moments of the race. (there were a couple of really hairy moments, LOL)
And yet another hairy moment. I had to pass the Acura on the inside then quickly swerve out to get by the Audi ! That was really crazy. TBH, I really couldn't appreciate how crazy that moment was when it happened because it was so fast. It wasn't until I watched the replay that I saw how nuts it was.
All in all, a good time. I'll have to watch the replay to get my times to you oldmodelT. I didn't take a pic of my screen when the race concluded so I have to watch the entire replay again.
A great recap. That is the fun of these races. Anything can and could happen. But you do need to run the race in one of the Chevy FLM09 cars to get some points. That way we all run under the same conditions. I'm trying to recreate the same conditions we would have if we all ran the race together. I haven't tested the Caddy and it isn't a car that is used in the ALMS series that I'm aware of. But I will give you the minimum points for participation. It was probably my fault in the race parameters post. I'll try to be more clear in the rd #3 instructions with the VIPER R2 875.
That's right! No, you were clear. I'll run it again tonight and do another recap. I had lots of fun. Besides, i have one of those Chevys so it's no probelm. I'll get it painted up and get my times over to you.
Well....it appears I had a problem with my replay save....it quits at lap 27 !!(someone else should check to be sure)..I must be just too damn slow.... Hehe. i was watching it this AM to see what my time was....another problem with getting older...lol. I've run it a few times...just for fun ;). I think I finished around 5-7th....40.21.7??. Was agonizingly fun to run. AI were much nastier with me near the end than in the begininging. But I finishied evryrime. I'll check my replay sooner in the future. Can't wait to see what the next challenge is!
Would anyone be intrested if I ran this as a race on Tuesday or Friday? After 9:00pm EST maybe later??
I would but it would have to be after 10pm est. The only day I don't work late this week. But it would be for fun because the deadline is over. We could do the Viper at MLS. It's the next round.
Race results up in post #14 from now on. Easier to get to. Please check my math and report back to me any errors. TT points will be 5,3,2 and 1 pt for all others. Was 1st TT so it's fair for everyone. Damage factor was a big part of last rounds results. Just like in RL. I'm big on ideas for the coming rounds. Have it done for the next 2 but any imput to make it interesting just pm me with your imput. Would love to be able to do teams in the later rounds. ex. Fast guys with slower ones to encourage exchange of tune etc.
Please pm me your time even if you post in the thread. Just makes my life easier if I have all the numbers in my mailbox.
Nice to see some leaderboard times already in the Viper on MLS. Emcee, Surf & Dawg1. Ziggy Prolines's tune is working for me. I'm within striking distance of some of you speedsters. Might give it another go. Is it okay to use my time from 4/30/2012. I did during the testing process? It's clean as you guys can see. Send me a FR so I can watch the results.
Oldmodelt....family issues will be keeping me away from xbox for awhile....if possible use my leaderboard time for my TT. Not sure if I'll be back online for race, but am hopefull.
TT run done and pm sent.
Without TCS it's a horror. With TCS, it's ok, but you have to tune it to get rid of the understeer.
Replay up on storefront for anyone who is interested. Still more in it, but just don't have enough time.
The race itself is going to be very gnarly. Patience will be the key. Very easy to wipe the car out and bury it in a wall.
Oldmodelt....family issues will be keeping me away from xbox for awhile....if possible use my leaderboard time for my TT. Not sure if I'll be back online for race, but am hopefull.
No problem. It's up there. Just send me a pm.
Poids, You are spot on. This beast is a handful. But that's the challenge. I understand the common dislike for Full Sim damage in some racing circles. Knocked out of a race early. Wasted time on the tune/paint, etc. I thrive on it though. No guts no glory. I made that decision with FM4. I'm only 6.1% complete on my season career. But having a blast finishing out of the money many times with damage. A recent replay at R AM in the Viper on my SF. Search "full sim baby". Only a 5 lapper but tons of close calls.
And the pride in knowing that many other guys are scared of it. I know that insanerc throws sim damage in sometimes but doesn't tell the guys to teach them a lesson. I'm much better. I'll tell you up front and dare you to run a long one.
Yup. Full sim and endurance has always been something I have enjoyed. In FM2 the tyre wear and fuel consumption was much better and those endurance races were often epic fun as you tried to push the tyres long enough to make the gap necessary to retain the lead. They really started to get slippery. Wish FM4 would model it better.
Any idea what the fuel endurance is of something like the viper In terms of Laps at race pace?
The full sim and endurance angle along with the run it when you can is what reeled me in.
Good job mate.
AI set to 980...Chevy PI 998...tune what you want.
AND don't forget to pit

shiiit. Thanks lads.. I'll run this again tonight.. 3rd times a charm. (hopefully).
Thank you gentlemen!
I'll get my run done in the morning.
I am sorry if it was confusing.

You get better with age I guess.
I remember seeing a quote during my high school days.
"like what no one else likes and you'll have plenty of it"
Hopefully I'm not the only person who thinks this.
