Hosting a PC server.
I have grown curious through playing minecraft through Xbox360 and I wanted to check out the pc version. However, I am very uptigt about people messing with my things through "griefing" and so I decided to host my own server. I have my server setup brand new and ready to be built on but I need people with the PC version to help see if it is possible for others to log on to the server besides myself. I also need to try and "stress test" the server before i decide to add any reccommended mods or addons to the server. If you are interested in this becoming a dedicated 2o2p server drop in and lend a hand with the testing.

I would like to be able to talk to people in real time for this so I can troubleshoot in real time as well. Delayed repsonse times can mean a very long time in order to bring the server up where it needs to be. I can get on mumble, TS, vent, Steam, etc. but for the sake of ensuring I can troubleshoot the server at a decent rate I would like to get some of you guys on the line in real time.
I have been tinkering with the server and with the help of a long time xbox live friend The server is live on Himachi however there seems to be a bug with 1.2.5 that makes joining a server normally impossible. Regardless of port forwarding and adjusting the firewall connections cannot be made to the server. I need to get more people in to test whether or not this is inf act a bug or if it is just a conflict between connections between myself and my friend I have phil on my xbox friends list and will try to catch him on there to test this everyone else I will try and keep mumble up to see if I can catch anyone else. Thanks in advance for the help and for those of you who have himachi you can join network custom 45 password 123456 and the server ip is 5.16.78.125 I will have the server running so if you would like jump in and enjoy I have presently set up a back up for the server so that when the server is brought down all information should be saved.
Also if you do log on to the server I have built a safe house at X:209 Z:230 you may use whatever is in there to get you going, enjoy.
Man, when we had a server before, it wasn't that complicated. I can't connect to this one.
Are you going to keep up with the snapshots as well when they get released?
Once the server is joinable by everyone (or most people) I will be taking notes on features people want added on to the server and keeping up to date with them. However, to join the server at the moment Hamachi is required because I cannot figure out why the other method is not working. The ports for the server are forwarded and they are working successfully but the one guy that tried to log on with that method could not. I had 2 people other than myself logged on to the server last night so maybe there was an issue with information thatw as entered to get to the server? I also realise that eventually I will need to find a way past the server bug because it hink Hamachi can only hold 5 people/network unless you pay for a subscription. Either way get ahold of me I need to get this stuff figured out before I even think about putting mods or plugins in the server.
Update, try 76.104.208.162 when logging in I beleive I got the issue with the connecting solved so PLEASE try and use that address when adding the server I need to know if this works.

Great now I just need a bunch of you crazy kids to come on the server and play to stress test the server before I add anything to it. Keep in mind that the server will stay up and be maintained as long as it is used often enough otherwise it is just wasted time and resources.
As far as implementing "snapshot" which looks to me like pre-released versions of upcoming updates I will need to speak with someone who has experience with these updates so I can understand how they work and which files will need to be altered.
Mr. Dixon I do beleive I have implemented the latest snapshot however since I do not know the difference between the versions as I am new to the PC version I do need someone to drop in a check it out to see if it is indeed the newest snapshot version on the server.

In order to log on to the server you must download the client for 12w26a which is the newest snapshot and place the file into your .minecraft bin folder.

What difficulty is the server set to?
I beleive it is set to 1.

well looks like I am going to impliment this and create a new world to spawn all of the extra goodies for everyone. I will back up the old world in case some of you want to play it however since there is a large lack of activity on the server at this point I dont think anyone will miss it.
Ignore that I discovered that the large amount of changes I implemented into the server did not require a new seed but rather a simple server restart so we can keep all of our stuff! I did implement the new 12w27a snapshot and you will need to update your client in order to log in to the server but look on the bright side there is alot more cool stuff now!
I've never been on a MP minecraft server, think I'd laike to give it a go at some point. Long as I'm not stepping on anyone's toes!

I took the server down for a few days asI have seen no activity on it and I was writing/testing programs for my school work I will put the server back up today and it will be available.
I see that some people are trying to join the server and being unsuccessful in doing so. As a reminder you MUST have the snapshot update 12w27a to join the server it is very easy to put in and if you have any questions just pm me and i'll help you get it set up.

Server Update The 1.3 update is just a few days away and with this update comes an upgraded server as well as texture/mods being added to the server. These mods/texture packs have been asked for by the majority of the people playing on the server and so as soon as the update is released they will be added. Also the server platform will be changed to accomodate a larger number of people and better performance, I urge anyone interested in a dedicated server to check the server out.

The server is updated to 1.3.1 and has more ram allocated to make it run much smoother. Also no mods have been added yet but as soon as they are I will list them here so everyone can check them out. The current texture almost everyone is running on the server is Dokucraft and is a really nice skin I recommend everyone check it out.
The PC server is up to date with 1.3.1. Also I have upgraded the server to run more efficiently and support more players so I invite everyone to come check it out. No mods have been loaded on yet as witht he new update many, many things were broken and are still in production. The server IP is 76.104.208.162 come check it out and set up your homestead.
The PC server has now been moved on to a dedicated server (it has it's own machine dedicated to the server) windows server 2012 log on to see if you are still able to if not contact me to see if I can help solve the issue.
My unfinished castle, still trying to decide what exactly I want to do with it not to mention finally cap all the towers.
Looks great Custom, will try and find it the next time Im on. If I can stop falling into holes and starving to death, or drowning (cause I saw something shiny at the bottom of the water).
I have two mines there, one with a signpost the other without. The one without should have a few diamonds in it where I starved to death(that is if you drop items where you die like the Xbox version), if any one comes across them, well consider them yours.
