Certain Affinity working with 343i on Halo 4 Updated 7.19.12
More to come from RTX.
UPDATE: The Halo Bulletin 7.18.12
Thanks to a Q&A some of the Forge details were released.
It was mentioned in the Forge demo that there will be multiple Forge environments. Does this mean multiple Forge Worlds with a different setting and theme for each? If so, can we assume different styles of parts for each? - BenPwnsAtGamez
There will be some aesthetic variety we’ll talk about later – as well as the obvious inclusion of aesthetics and Forgeable objects from specific maps (Forerunner vs. UNSC objects, depending on the content of the environment), but most objects will be UNSC themed – although there’s more to come on that front later.
Will any 343-created Forge maps be released into matchmaking alongside the 10 regular maps? - Link1201
We won’t be putting Forge creations in the “main” matchmaking areas initially, at least. Certainly Forged variants may go in (rules, the odd object placement) eventually, but we’re still discussing how to promote and enable Forge creations in a way that maintains a separation of that kind of content from the main mix.
How big are the multiple Forge environments compared to Forge World? - bellz1996
The environments will be large enough to accommodate just about any design you can think of, from a Lockout remake to a sprawling racetrack. There will be rolling hills, flat, sterile spaces, big, flat indoor areas and everything in between. The difference is that we’ll use more than one environment – an aesthetic – rather than a giant contiguous space like Forge World. There will also be HUGE FLAT JUMBO Coliseum “walls” that you can instantly place as enormous floor tiles (or walls). All the spaces are being designed with flexibility and performance in mind. The inclusion of a new lighting engine and some unique palettes will make things look more varied and connected. Some simple examples – you can make Lockout and The Pit with relative ease and plenty of room. If you want to do something giant and meandering, you’ll have to incorporate some of the environments existing features (hills, cliffs etc).
With the new dynamic lighting in Forge, will we be able to make almost a nighttime looking map? And will there be lights at our disposal as well? - x HoMiiCiDe
We’ll reveal more about the environments later, and while you won’t be able to make a literal night time version, there will be an element that will enable a starkly different look than the bright daytime maps you’re used to – and the addition of proper lighting and shadowing on and in objects will make a radical difference.
I noticed that there was no "Weapons" menu selection in the Forge demo. Will we have the ability to place weapons on the map in Forge or will we be limited to using ordnance drops and loadouts? - Lehnaru
The menu in the Forge demo was not only a placeholder, but was actually pretty borked – it was dropped in just for RTX. Naturally the final menu will have complete feature parity with “old” Forge, plus several important new additions, and so yes, of course you will be able to place weapons – and vehicles at will. Custom games will also allow you to define your own loadouts so you will not be limited by your progress in the main Infinity progression.
In Forge, will the coordinate system we had in Reach be returning? Also, will the Grid be returning as a placeable object in Forge? - Nuclear Taco 42
Coordinates and grids are returning and will be in some ways more useful thanks to other features like magnets and so on.

FORGE
Objects can be locked from accidental movement.
Objects can be duplicated.
Object real time snapping. Called magnetism.
Object accept dynamic lighting. Excellent looking.
Object portfolio is similar to REACH, so far seen.
Low gravity volumes placeable.
Player trait zone. Can be assigned no-fall-damage for example.
IE. You can create a jump zone with reduced gravity and a landing zone with reduced damage. The two allow jumping from spot to another without that difficult to manange man-cannon induced death.
Horrible gray is gone. Base colour seems ivory with coloured highlights.
Unless they have other colors, ivory will become the new gray.
But.
Three Forgeable maps with appropriate object palettes. This indicates colour problems will likely be less pervasive than in REACH.
Glass is half full (for me).
It's a half full glass of water, but to you, the glass is full of tits and bacon.

Shown one of the Forge environments shown. Several more to come. Beautiful.
No UNDO.
I'm too lazy to link a War Games: Custom Games UI image, but it reminds me of the dashboard Metro UI.
Which leads me to think, is H4 going to be better with Kinect?
I have no clue what that means.

Sorry, I should have posted the image.
I would assume that all Microsoft games will have similar UI and similar to Windows 8, in roder to keep the image similar across all platforms. It does look a little more Kinect-friendly, though.
Certain Affinity has been known to make remakes for Halo maps in the past (ei. Hang'em High, Derelict, some of the Anniversary maps), do you think they have been contracted to make more remakes for Halo 4? Thoughts?
Could we get Hang'em High for a thrid time?
Twitch
Perhaps they are only doing the Forgeable maps, for now.
It really is promising to get at least three different environments to Forge in with multiple object Palettes.

Forging sequence begins at 6:15.
Correct lighting and shadows will help - even with mostly Gray-or-Ivory environments.
They didn't touch on if they improved the framerate issues. I would assume they improved it. I like what they have done overall, but was a little disappointed when they showed the forge pieces and they look like Reach forge pieces. Still framerate is my number one concern because so many awsome forge maps never saw the light of day because of piss poor framerate.
On the remaking on maps. Whats left to remake? Haven't we seen just about everything. You would almost have to put maps from H3 just because all the fan favorite CE and H2 maps have been done already.
Some of the pieces would logically be similar but I too was surprised by the round bunker. I.E. 1x1, 1x2, 2x4 that sort of thing would remain.
Going with Frankie's previous comments for the Anniversary map pack, I doubt we will see any remakes from games playable on the 360. Fan favorites is subjective. Anything not already done from CE or Halo 2 has potential but Frankie has also said the large majority of maps will be new.
10 new, non-Forged Developer maps on release. 9 maps through 3 DLC packs with 343i continuously calling them the first three DLC. That's 19 for sure. Halo 3 had the most maps at 24 including 2 Forged maps. If Halo 4 gets a fourth DLC then it will actually be ahead of Halo 3 because as we already know, it will have an additional 3 Forgeable map settings bringing the potential total to 25.
If Forged Community maps work out a bit better this time, there will be more maps in hand than anyone can handle.
If Halo 5 has a two year development cycle, as many are predicting, then we will have more than enough maps to keep us busy. If it's three years then the Forged maps will probably carry us through.
I am comfortable with the map numbers. What we don't know is the number that could be stinkers by popular opinion.
Sturgeon's Law, Deep. Almost all of the maps are stinkers.
You could also think that if there is a Halo2 remake done the way CEA was that we could see a any number of Halo2 maps make there way to DLC next fall.
Forge World maps where my favorite maps in Reach so even if the maps aren't that great we can alway fall back on that. I do think though that H$ maps will be much better than Reach's.
Just realized REACH has 20 multiplayer maps one of which is Forge World. There were 5 Developer Forged map variants. If I were being generous I'd say that makes 24 Developer maps for MM.
But I'm not going to be generous to Bungie on the Forged map point. Anybody could have done the remakes. Some people did just that and they were as good or better.
So I will give a total of 19 Developer maps to Bungie/343i and 1 Forge setting. Halo 4 has that beat already.
I thought Forge in Reach was a great tool and really allowed for many normal guys like me to make some fun maps to play with our fellow clannies. I just hope with H4 they make it even easier for people to undertsand what options to select for objective based maps or making all gametypes available on all maps. There's nothing more infuriating than figuring out Race is not allowed on Countdown after thinking about how to accomplish it in my head for three days.
