The Yaris Cup Kraigger is running with a little help from me does a handicap system There are four groups Amateur no hp H/Cap, Pro-Am 5% hp H/Hap, Pro 10%hp H/Cap and Veteren 15% H/Cap. We run a set of qualification races 3 or 4, first race everyone starts with no H/Cap then after the race we adjust the H/Caps based on lap times and run again adjusting the H/Caps. this continues for the remainder of the qualification races till everyone is running similar lap times. Then we start the race which lasts roughly 20 to 25 mins. It worked well last tuesday. The whole thing lasts about 1 hour in total.
I personally think some sort of handicap system is the only way to go with such a wide range of abilities.
My very rare wins in EUSL were great, but there is more satisfaction to be had in close sustained racing. Its why I enjoy racing Wonka. We are usually closely matched and have had some epic races. I'd like to have those epic races with all of you at the same time. And if I come 7th or 14th compared to my usual 3rd to 6th in the Aliens, I really don't care.
Yes there will be issues with crashes. So what. Close racing will improve all our racing skills far more than either sitting out front hotlapping, sitting midfield on your own or trailing 5000 feet at the back watching 1st place approach in your rear view.
i have confidence that we can sort out a system that will work brilliantly. More specifically, I am sure Tourni will either be able to produce a balanced range of tunes/cars that work across ability levels or that handicaps of 5/10 % etc will work.
oh, and I hope drag tyres are here to stay for a bit. A 30-40 minute race will pretty much require a pit stop.
It would be nice to race against you, if you will have to handle a handicap. I believe, that so I can learn more about your line, overtakings and so on. This year I used every chance to see the BTCC. That's great racing and they use a hadycap system (weight), right?
Due to the length of a race: I don't like those 5 lap races, but on the other side the Bricar event brings me to my limits. 35 rounds with 2.16.xxx will cause a race time up to nearly 80 minutes. I love that event, but I won't do those long races every day. The EUSL (2 races via 10 or 15 rounds) was great!
For I am not a tuner, I would prefer car's with a built up and tune from someone (like EUSL). Maybe some it is fun to race the cars, as they are. Without any tuning and upgrading. Are those V8 Supercars driveable withou a tuning? I like those races from Australia!
But overall: I think it is simply great to race with you, guys. You are help- and supportfull, you give newbies a chance and forgive mistakes. that is really GREAT! So if you call for a race and I will have time to "play" with you, I will!
Another alternative to handicaps to consider is running multiple shorter races and inverting the field after each race. This gives everyone a chance to run in traffic for at least part of the race. You can really learn a lot when an alien passes you by taking a better line and coming out of a corner with more speed. If you want to take it a step further, you could even have rolloff delays at the start of the race. This would also help to cut down on the T1 mayhem that usually accompanies the start of a race.
Thanks Troy, Its some thing that we implemented within the EUSL. Whilst it worked temporarily, it never gave the desired results of sustained racing with each other.
Last night I had the oppertunity to Race with the guys using a handicap system. It was fair efficient to set up, the results were satisfactory and the racing was alot closer.
With some refining, we should get racers to be alot closer and actually race with each other. Tuning becomes less important with this set up also and it is more about the tactics of racing, defend your line and corner better. The guys in the vetran have more fun because we have to work harder to get the position whilst the others get to learn what we are doing to lap so quick.
With all this in mind, I'm going to start thinking about some race events to cater for all.
Thanks for all your efforts Tourni. Although I don't get to race as often due to changes in my RL, I still check in on what organizers are doing. It's great to see so many new people joining us. This summer seemed a bit slow. I'm sure that was due to people enjoying the nice weather and such. Now that winter is here I'm sure participation will be stronger. Great to see such a variety of racing to jump in on. That Playboy series looks particularly cool.
hahahah, Its a nice drive actually. But it wont be alone on the track... :D
Thanks Snappy, My goal at the moment is to make racing closer and bring people the cars they want to see. We lost alot of "fast to mid" members which left the field split. Its no fun for anyone to just run off into the distance, I know i didn't enjoy it. Majourity of us would much rather be racing in a pack than being left by ourselves, its easier for others to learn and for the faster guys to hone their traffic skills.
I refer you to my previous answer. I can dream and I think I have identified my first attempt at an event :)
Seriously, no idea - the BMW is a camera car OR the aliens get handicapped with the BMW (which will attempt to kill them at every corner) whilst everyone else gets the Alfa, which handles like a dream and forgives every stab of the throttle.

Hello,
here's the voice from a slower one!
