Battlefield Heroes also said their cash shop was going to be only vanity items, and now you NEED to spend plenty of money just to be competitive. Hopefully that's not the case here, but I could certainly see them offering a lighter version of a weapon or one with extra ammo for cash.
Yes F2P is certainly concerning. Hopefully they strike a good balance and the game lives up to their promises. I like that this one, has a role for the recon light mechs other then to run away.
THey said the light mechs could locate and harass the enemy, which to me sounds like doing minor tick damage while you wait for the heavy to come and actually do some work, which is pretty much what MW has always been. It's just the nature of a scout to have light arms and not do a lot of combat damage, but sadly there's nothing else on the battlefield to do. Maybe they'll have some sort of CTF or objective mode where you'd have a reason to play a scout.

Hopefully there is a reason yes. I suppose the types of roles are really limited to the maps. If they are small arena then we are gonne be limited to quick capture the flag roles for light mechs. Thats really all they'd be good for on a small map.
If they had a really large map, it could make the the light mech vital for spotting the enemy first. Also why not have Assault mechs carrying artillery that can be used to soften the enemy team if the recon can find them and successfully paint in their position. Also terrain should play a large part. Where having elevation should provide you with better range and damage for ambushes. Making the game strategic makes that recon much more valuable an asset. I really hope they put it to good use and its not all smoke up our asses.
This is going to sound SUPER nerd, but... Whatever.
Back in the day when we would play paper and dice, we would have a couple of lights outfitted with TAGs and armor, nothing else, for the sole purpose of being able to send vollies of LRMs from behind cover. If this plays half as good as it appears, I would LOVE to play a light and do nothing but recon.
This is going to sound SUPER nerd, but... Whatever.
We r in the Mech forum lol.
Yes that sounds awesome. They need stuff like that. And hopefully there would also be some other things recon could do well also so its not the same thing over and over. I suppose peeps would want some recon hunters too, so the big boys don't get blasted before they get to the battle.
The real battle was won 5 minutes ago when your light mechs were wiped out by the enemies recon hunters. |Now your assaults have been found, painted and just waiting for hellfire to come raining down. In this scenerio i would want the most competent pilot in the recon or at least providing escort.
Were there any countermeasures against this tactic Repo?

At very least, we always had a couple of medium incase things got bad. None of our heavies had anything short range. As soon as we had positive tag, we would unleash hell.
There was a pretty decent size group that used to get together about once a month (the smaller groups of us played constantly). There was one other group we used to play against in particular that finally had us figured out. We started fitting only 2 lights with TAGs and at least two others with ballistics (tried to outfit with lasers, heat proved to be bothersome) as escorts (think Navy sending fighter pilots out in groups of two). If we stuck to strict gaming rules, we always won. Everyone was always concerned with having power (heavy and assault) and long range. Tons of weaponry, little armor.
Damn. Sucks I don't have a PC. I would love to play another Mechwarrior game. The last one I played was MW2. I was always in a Marauder with double particle cannons.
Trying to get them here, but not going to force it down their throats.
Its probably a lot easier to keep the timmies out of the threads over here, and easier to find the fellas serious about joing us by asking them to apply for membership over here. Something to think about anyway.
Ok, they're sending out beta passes now. Which means things are coming together soon. Who's acuallygoing to be playing? There's no in-game VOIP, so we need to figure out which we're going to use like Teamspeak or Vent. Let's start getting organized!

You got an idea on specs?
None posted as of yet, I think they're using the Beta to build the minimum specs needed to play. I'm running a store bought HP that I've already posted my specs on, but am going to be adding a new videocard for it today then running their spec program again to update my info. The next round of passes is set to be released on the 5th or 6th.

Greetings all, I'm one of the ones Kurupt found over on the MWO forums, and I'll be playing whether I get into the beta or not. I also have my own Vent server that a few friends/family use when they're gaming, but mostly its underutilized. If you'd like to use that, just message me. I do have it password protected so we don't get any "timmies" dropping in.
Damn. My laptop is old as hell and it does not run newer games for spit.
Sounds like a good reason to buy a new one. I gotta buy a new one as well. This time I will not be suckered into a HP. A friend got a Asus laptop 6 months a go for gaming and has been loving it so since the local stores carry them I most likely will go with one of them. Gonna wait a little while longer though. Closer to the actual need date.
Cool if a scout spots the enemy and u are within 640m (depending on long range missile type) you can blast the baddy for off from the battle. Accordsing to the vid below.
Hey everyone. One thing I noticed from the preview footage is LRM mechanics. It looks great while raining missiles on the target, but not much damage is done. In one vid all of a catapults 240 missiles in ammo are used, without seriously damaging an enemy mech. Yeah they helped a bit, doing some damage over an entire mech, but not very effective for 1/2 to 2/3 of a catapults armament. Something to watch as the game develops.

While that's disappointing, the LRM are an area of effect weapon I believe. With the skill tree I'm betting that area will condense as you climb it though, also adding improved targeting components to your mech.
Hey retribution nice to meet ya. I agree i would have liked seeing them do more damage as well. Maybe its like kurrupt says: fine tuning/leveling up and customization can increase accuracy doing more damage to a smaller area. keepin my stinckers crossed.
Well since we've garnered some interest in formaing a group let's start discussing what house we may join or choose to simply stay a merc group. There's been no real detail as to what advantages joining a house does, I've had a long running post going in House Kurita, I've done the others but most of them got deleted in short order.
Also anyone got an idea about a name for our little group?
In line with the website I'm thinking Mature Mech Mercinaries.... M3 for short
It depends on the way matchmaking works, but I'm thinking mercs. If house players are randomly put together for battles working together would be difficult. If players in a faction can group together then Kurita is my personal choice for a house.
Faction players fight for influence/ranks in the house and take border worlds for the house, Merc companies fight for control of border worlds. There seem to be a lot of merc companies planned, maybe even more than merc controllable worlds. I'm expecting difficulty for mercs to hold on to a world.
As far as a name, maybe Warriors of Old? Double meaning intended.
