Poidlsy I think you should be able to run low 28's to high 27's without handicap, I'm running 29 flat.
Yeah. I only ran a few laps. Think occasional 27's rings a bell. Couple of big braking points on Catalunya so I think Tournis advice after last weeks race might have even more relevance here. Allow a bit more room in braking zones and try to get your exit and momentum right.
I don't have much time on weekends due to work and family but I did do up a tune for this weekends race. If anyone is interested search 2O4F MX5 or ALS and it will bring you to my storefront.
Started well up the grid and I only won because I realised I had to get past inkabod early or kc/deadmaus/supernova would be all over me. That pass gave me about 12 laps of pure hot lapping. Just up my street. Still, made a lot of mistakes in the last 6 laps and nearly gave it away.
If I had been in veteran I would have been dead meat, but that's what I'm going to opt for next week.
hi guys. just finished my first event with the club. was great clean fun racing. one question though. are pit stops mandantory in the main event in this series? i ask cos everyone in front of me did so i figured it was. if not i could have won! lol

Welcome Phil. Glad you enjoyed it.
Not mandatory, but if your mx5 was built to spec, with drag tyres, your lap times would have fallen off a cliff around lap 24. Late 1:30's at a guess and at that point you are as sitting duck. Unless church set laps to less than 30.

Anyway, see you on track.
ah ok. did notice them start to go. person behind me must have made early stop or looked after tyres well. had to borrow churchpro's car from the club garage but am in the process of building my own now as we speak!

Good fun, thanks guys.
fun for sure.
i had to keep you on your toes at the end . another 200ft and i would have got you.
Well my connection was playing up, I hope I didn't cause anyone else problems! Had a mysterious invisible car ram me up the arse into the wall on the end of one of the first laps (even though I saw no one close behind me) and damaged most of my poor mx5 to 100%, so I quit out. I think I have fixed the problem at last now, hopefully next time will be more stable :)
Looking to do some promo stuff on lemans after the race, if anyone is up for it. Tunes not required, paints appreciated but not required.
In th v8's? I'll be there, just send me a reminder on the night.
As for the handicaps - it works if people are in the right handicap. Trouble is how quickly people adapt. 10 laps before the night and mid race I'll be at my maximum pace and starting to keep up with the veterans.. No practice and my pace is pro. Im totally convinced that it provides better quality race fun.
However we have a lot of fast new guys and it's going to interesting to see how the first round of btcc goes.
Well handicaps are used in racing, but the idea of using handicaps is for people to experiance close racing rather than racing by themselves.
They do work if implemented correctly (ie people don't take the piss) I've had some epic battles in the mx5 series, and with all classes. Sure they'll blow by me down the straight but i'll get to the twisties and its game on. Lots of passing and defending going on, more practice for the racers of both types, which results in better racing for everyone :)
I don't see whats not to like about them, you have to race harder to make them work and you have more people to race with?

Tourni...I guess the magic statement is "If implemented Correctly"...If indivduals are locked into a class of handicaps at the beginning of a series mostly like they will get better. If they are handicapped for each race then there are too many variables that the handicap could be wrong. Then there are the guys that tune (Or Tweak)...If you have a person that doesn't tune (Or Tweak) he may find himself on the wrong end of the stick..For example..I ran a race the other night as a Amateur (Which I found out was wrong)...When it came time for a straight away I found guys that were handicapped walk away from me on a straight away. I asked myself how could that be? I still don't know (I know they didn't have a run on me from the corner). I also have found individuals that can run WAYYYY quicker than myself sometimes end up have a lower handicap than myself. I even found myself running a individual race practice and for whatever the reason (Ran off the track..Etc) the times were slow (As I had the other night) which lowered my handicap. When the race started and things calmed down I found out quickly that I was in the wrong handicap. I was moving up too fast. What also was really surprising that some of those that had the same handicap (As Me) were moving up faster than me (I ended up just dropping from the race). I guess the bottom line is this .."If Implemented Correctly" then could be great but if recent past experiences are any indicator it could get bad quickly. Personal Opinion of Course...May be way off base!
P.S. If it appears that I am rambling...My Apologies..Just trying to get a honest insight even though I may be dead wrong!

You aren't wrong there wheels, for sure people are going to be hovering between groups and people will get it wrong on the odd occasion. So let me just explain a bit, when i said if implented correctly, I mean that i give people a target time which is towards the back middle and ask people to adjust their groups to suit an average aroudn this time. These is on a per track basis because some don't know a particular track, or didn't get practice...
On the whole, people do this and some times we get people who are left behind and others times we get people out in front. But, i run with 20% all the time, I know i can make it to the front(ish) with it so the game is picking slower and driving better to make the difference :) However, i'd rather people had fun doing it so i don't enforce any thing and ask people to be respectful in picking. They are, and always have been.
At the end of the day, i'm not bothered who wins what as long as we are having a ball doing it. I've had some really epic races with all class types and i'm absolutely buzzing about the v8's hoping to see a return of the gizzie for it :)
Tourni...Don't think by me being honest means that I may be bitching or whining..It's Not True...True as you have stated that it is all good and fun. What I am saying that handicaps are too easy to get out of whack. For example if you (Tourni) are running at 20%...I am running at 0%...At the end of the race we are running neck and neck....Some may say "Hey" handcaps are dead on...THEN some may say "Hey" he was running neck and neck with Tourni but he was leaving the rest of us behind (Maybe because You are extremely fast)..Now what happens...My experience is that I move up a couple of handcaps and you stay the same. Next race instead of running neck and neck with you I am running dead last! It is also great to police yourself...AS LONG AS EVERYONE ELSE DOES...Which I found isn't always the case..Guys purposely sand bagging (I have been accused myself)..Guys showing up late for handicap qualification..Picking their own handicap and then run away with the race. That's my thought on handicaps...It is still fun but is it realistically fair??...Too Many Variables!!...All I know is "It's All Good"!...Just a personal insight!
P.S. Running last doesn't mean a thing to me (I been there more times than not) if I know that is where I belong that night but seeing a individual or individuals who I know runs way quicker than I do race with a lower handicap does sometime put second thoughts on handicap thinking.
P.S.S. I Swear...No More Talking About Handicaps! It's been BEAT to DEATH!

Not at all wheels - but those battles i've had on 20% have been hard fought.
I guess what i'm also trying to get accross that if i can get the times on the 20% then tuck in behind me and follow me through. Also, defend the corners and it'll slow me down alot :) Jump in with us wheels and see how you like our set up :)

Tourni...Will give it a run and hope that my sometime spastic driving skills don't embarrased me!
Fitzy are we just going to make 1 room first?
If it gets full we can then split it.
Sounds good, you set up the room and we'll take it from there.
Poidlsy I think you should be able to run low 28's to high 27's without handicap, I'm running 29 flat.

OK
I will have a room open anyway for the Btcc qualification :-)
Epic racing guys!!
Next time Zeratul!! Winning me by 0.049 seconds!!

Glad you had a great time guys, I've only just got back in from autosport :) Very long day!
Did i miss something? I thought the race was at 5:30 est??
Well my connection was playing up, I hope I didn't cause anyone else problems! Yeah shame Sam.
I was with was just behind general who was just behind you and you just rocketed in to the wall!
We should see some fantastic racing at nurburg gp, very good track for these little beauties :)
Two questions:
- how do you get an invite for this?
- is it still the same car as definded on page1?
Thanks!
You just enter the room when it opens and the car is the same as described.
Usually my room is the first opened.
Looking to do some promo stuff on lemans after the race, if anyone is up for it. Tunes not required, paints appreciated but not required.

Would be there, but its the last race of the GT Open
Bollocks! I think it would be better to do it prior..
So anyone willing to do 15 minutes of promo, join in. The lobby will be open at 20:00.
I'll try to remember to fire up the xBrick after the morning's Group A TC race at GBR.
Would you like the green Motul Falcon or red/white/blue Ford Credit Falcon?
