Okay I'll repost it, but if someone gets bitchy, I expect y'all to defend my honor! Or lack thereof.

Keep in mind, this was in a clan forum (not 2o4bs lol). As anyone who has been active in a clan forum knows, it's obvious who is friends with whom. It's really obvious with me, because I bug people to get online for clan nights, openly say "you're one of my favorite people", etc. And several of those people are from somewhere north of Virginia.

And for those of you not familiar with living in Florida, "season" is November - April, when older people from up north come down, live, and get pushy and rude lol.

The title of the thread was: A question for you Yankees...I mean my northern friends.

WHY WHY WHYYYYYYYY do your old people think that pushing the customer in front of them will make the cashier move faster?? Seriously. Do me a favor: tell your parents and grandparents to STOP PUSHING PEOPLE. I say and do nothing, because I was raised in the way. Even if they are being rude and causing you physical pain, you don't turn around and tell the old person you're about to push back. But my patience is wearing thin, and season has just begun. If I make it to April without threatening grievous bodily harm on someone's grandparent, it will be a miracle.

Whyyyy do they think pushing another customer will get them through the line faster??? I NEVER see this behavior in non-Yankee old persons. It's obviously a regional phenomenon. I'm hoping someone can explain it lol!

LOL, I was in a line a looooong time ago, I was maybe 22, and there was someone pushing their cart into my ankles and the third time it happened, I turned around was half way through " I'm gonna shove that cart up your ass..." and realized it was a 80 year old woman about 4 foot 5" and her eyes got soooooo big....

However, my ankles were the better for it. Of course everyone else thought I was an ogre...

I grew up in south Florida where the "snow birds" always migrated in the winter. I get it totally.

No harm in that post.  It happens here in NE Ohio too.  Maybe some do it on purpose but it's usually an ederly just rockin' their cart back and forth where I shop and the cart happens to hit me.  I  usually ask if they would like to go in front of me.  They usually say no and I scoot farther away from their cart if I can.  I got ran over twice by a youngin with a cart.  Third time she would have had me shoving everything in her cart down her throat.  Well at least in my head it would go down like that.

It happens in tourist areas. It's not restricted to North to South visits. I can see why some Northerners got bitchy but your points could be valid for all visitor populations. It's like, your bad time of the year and your patience is running low for tourists. I've never seen any evidence Southerners are more friendly than Northerners. A lot of idle talk about it is all.

Actually my folks just moved down to Eastern Tennessee....and they continue to talk about how friendly the people are there compared to the people where they moved from (Southern Vermont).  I thought is was a load of bull.....until I visited them in October.  Even when I went down to Northern Georgia (Petit Lemans @ Road Atlanta), most of the people I dealt w/ were friendly.  Of course it probably helps when you are a considerate customer that's been on the other side of the counter.

But yeah, tourist areas in general suck.

And Kit, I don't see what the big whup was about it......probably someone feeling like a troll trying to get you riled up.  Looks like a vent post to me.....nothing more, nothing less.  80

Sounds like you need to form a new clan....OP OT Clan.  wink

I really should throw H4 in again one of these days.  See if I can at least get past the story mode.....  Did I mention I suck at FPS games?  Hehe.

Good people are where you find them. I think Newfoundlanders are the friendliest people I've met, both in and out of their province. Even with that, they have nasty pricks too. It's said by outsiders that Nova Scotians are friendly people. I don't believe it and I am one.

I'm in east Tennessee, the friendliest people I've ever found in general. Visited my buddy here three or four times over the holidays and moved down. Love it here.

Pay no attention to DEEP people, Nova Scotians are as friendly as they come. But I must admit Newfoundlander's are in a league of  their own...true story

Couple years ago my bridge partner took her future husband to a sectional tournament on the rock. Her husband is from Argentina and doesn't speak English all that well so when one of your typical friendly Newfie's introduced himself he asked Gerardo "whats your name son?" to which Gerardo replied (more than once mind you) in his Spanish tounge "Gerardo Malazdrewicz" and the old Newfie says to him "how bout we just call you Skippy."

Some of them may be accidental, but the one that got me so angry Saturday was deliberate. We were at this small farmer's market. The checkout area is small, theres no conveyor belt, and no divider bars to put in between your stuff and the stuff of the person behind you. The counter you put your stuff on is literally 1'x1'. Soooo this old woman (northern accent, bitching loudly about how "back home" market cashiers are faster) is behind me. There are two customers in front of me. She is shoving me with her shoulder nonstop. When I start putting my stuff by the register, she shoves me with her arm too, and starts putting her stuff up on the counter with mine. Did I mention the "stuff area" is 1'x1'? Now the cashier is having trouble separating grandma's stuff from mine. And the whole time granny is pushing me and breathing on my fucking neck.

Ive also had northern accented elders shove me with their cart and say "move up!" in the grocery store checkout line, when the only way I can move up is to be physically touching the person in front of me. That's already happened once this season.

As far as people being more polite down south, from my experience its true. I've lived in Florida, Texas, and Pennsylvania. Only in PA did I see locals let doors slam in the face of the person behind them, people bump into someone and not say "excuse me", and people never say "please" or "thank you". I had multiple people ask me why i kiss server's asses...because to them, saying please and thank you is ass kissing and/or fake. It was horrible culture shock for me. Especially men letting doors close in women's faces. Holy crap y'all...I was traumatized lol.

And I love you guys. Thanks for not getting bitchy! :D

I've never even heard of behavior like that.  I was in Aurora Illinois once and some ol boy cut in front of me in line at the convenience store and wound up with some tobacco spit on his pretty white shirt and ended up having to wait his turn anyway...seems his reluctance to fight won out over his impatience. I guess what I'm trying to say is get a can of Skoal.

46 and you're right. My partner is 38 and when we play there's a very good chance we are the youngest pair in the room :)

I bet the one you dealt with Satruday is just a tool in general.  Probably does the same crap "back home".  After spending weeks at a time down south setting up fireworks displays I came to the conclusion they were nicer in general then people back north at home.  The first time I got back  home from being down south for a couple weeks I was like "WTF" people here suck.  I remember some people not believing I was from the North.

Best stay away.

Air is bad here too. And bugs. And snow. And cold. And humid. And bad old people with grocery carts. Lots of old people.

LOL! You sound like me trying to keep people from moving to Florida. "It's hot. We have swarms of mosquitos. We all have guns and bad tempers, because its so hot and there's swarms of mosquitos..."

Folk got their knickers in a twist over that? Meh anyone who has to deal with holiday makers is entitled to sound off. You should hear Mrs Knight (who works in a hotel) sound off about Merkins in general...Though I have to say when I am performing I love 'em I f any nation knows how to be entertained it's the Merkins.

Early warning, I will one day make it to England, Ireland and Scotland...I expect at least a pint and a conversation with everyone! Might attempt a game of golf in Scotland, but I'm horrible at it, it might kill me.

No doubt. I have become good friends with the owner of a local "biker" bar (has some of the best food in the area) and he's quite fun to say the least.

Dunno if I'd survive a pub crawl, those days are probably well gone. Local ambience is definately a goal.

My days of pub crawling are long past mate, I have not even been in the pub for oooh...well I cant actually remember the last time. But when visitors come that pub is one of the Irish holiday experiences that must not be missed.
