Not a good day today...A good friend of mine has just had about the worst thing that can happen...happen. He lost his new born baby. I thought long and hard before sharing that sad news here, there is nothing anyone can do, there is nothing anyone can say. But many of us have become friends, we share good news and bad. No one is sure what happened, it was after a caesarian section and somewhere something went wrong. I had seen on the news that a baby had died in Cavan hospital and did not know until today that it was my friend Mickey's baby...So think good thought towards this person and his wife who you don't know and will never meet please, if you believe in god a payer, if not just a thought. It wont help, it will change nothing, but he deserves that small token.
So to lighten things a little. The Documantary I was in some months back aired today, my first real acting beyond the role of jobbing swordfighter, I was arrested, tried and convicted, tortured, and hanged. I have to confess in being rather proud of the end result, I managed to convey the emotions needed to the point I could almost believe them myself. Been on tele here for the last few weeks in two different shoots, but this is the one where I am really front and centre and credited as an actor. So call me Mr. Smug :)
Been outta town a week, came back for a weekend and my friend since childhood lost his son/daughter n law and 1 year old baby to a head on accident Saturday evening. Those of you that pray please do. Not for the family, but for the sanity of the parents left behind. He's really lost atm, and I can't begin to imagine the place he's in.
As for me, I'll be outta town another week, hopefully back by the holiday weekend.
Sorry about the sad news for you folks, life is tough. I always hope for the best for those of us who survive beyond others. Everyone grieves in their own time and I always supply as many hugs as I can. So mental hugs to all of you.
Food question.. for those who make ribs what's your way of preparing them and cooking?
I just boiled them with a full can of Fosters beer added in and now have them in the oven (sorry no grill available)

A dry rub and a smoker is the best way, but it takes a long time and you really have to know what you're doing. I've seen folks boil ribs (pork) and finish them off in a crock pot with some sauce for a couple of hours, but that was in South Carolina, and we made fun of them. Grilling is a last resort for folks unfortunate enough to be without a smoker: grills are for steaks and hamburgers. I've never heard of anybody cooking them in the oven, but I live in a place that's super particular about barbeque. I hope you dinner turned out okay, but I don't think that your method would go over very well in Texas.

They didn't come out bad ..I've had ribs from a smoker and they taste awesome. I really wish we had a place for even a grill that would of been a step up but none the less we enjoyed it..I'd love to visit the south for some real barbecue I've seen so many food shows
My parents were protestant or something; I went to a confirmation class when I was 12 but much to my parents disappointment it was more of a deconfirmation class. Now they refer to me as a Buddhist, because they can't classify me as anything else. Apparently they don't think that I can adopt a philisophical absolute such as atheism, so instead of agreeing to disagree we just call each other agnostic.
Take that escape from the tower with a pinch of salt, I know there is no way on earth they could have escaped in that way. What must have happened is bribes in the right places.
In other news our next car has come much closer, should have the money in a couple of weeks. The Volkswagon Tiguan R-line is in my sights and the top runner. Can't shake the smile I had test driving a two year old one they had in the showroom, Audi Q5 is a maybe, but the rather firm ride is offputting, not exactly surrounded by smooth roads. I had thought about the Skoda Yeti, but it felt small, it is narrower than our current Focus and that showed, though it was far from cramped I just think I would be unhappy in a smaller cabin. Bit of a shame as it reviews well and owners seem to like it, given it is based on the same chassis as the Tiguan it's strange they did not manage the same feel of space. Although the Tig is perhaps a littlle dated now, and perhaps lacks the flair of the competitors, it is such a step up from our current drive, we don't really care. I've been looking long and hard since before Xmas, many models have been on the list and dropped off but that Tig has remained high. So not quite a done deal, I shall test a few makes to be sure, but I think the Tig will be on the drive in a month, and I am really looking forward to it. Gonna go for a year old or ex demo, was going to buy new...But FFS drive out the dealership and lose a few grand as you do it? Nah, thats a great holiday right there. So sod that, let someone else take that hit and we will go on holiday on what we save.
Those second hand savings are very real and much needed at times. For me, that money on a new car is a small level of insurance. I always feel more confident in news cars with less than 10km on them. Used cars, especially demos, could have had any number of hot suppers behind the wheel. You can never know.
I tend to buy cheaper cars though, like the Yaris.
VW's from a dealer will have gone though a 100 point check with any faults found fixed, 1 year full VW guarantee with road side assistance that I will extend to three years, that's my insurance. I am also looking at very low mileage, I am looking at one at the moment with only 100Km on the clock, some kind of method of bringing the price of an essentially new car down in price going on there, it's all to do with some pre registration thing. It's not a car that boy racers are going to be buying or testing so I feel pretty confident, much more than my usual buy of seven or eight year old cars
Ha ha, that is as much use to me as a wax anvil, it would not even get down our lane without ripping off bits of bodywork with that ground clearance, as for climbing into the verge to allow two cars to pass...Nope, just not the tool for the job. Hence the SUV, it has the ground clearance, high ride height to see over hedges and 4WD. If I want to play in something more sporty I'll hire something for a couple of days and go somewhere I can actually drive it.
Passat is a solid car, but lacks those things that makes it the perfect choice for me.
Sounds like you need some real horsepower, Knight.

My wife will not drive anything other than a Passat, funny thing is that it has more driver side leg room than my Acura MDX. I might have to get a sedan the next go around. I still like sitting in a vehicle rather than lying down. I'm 6'4" so finding a good comfortable vehicle sometimes can be a chore.

So sorry to hear that. Thoughts and prayers to that family.
Sad thing to hear. Was it their first?
They had both been in past relationships, but this was their first together.
Sorry for your sad news Knight :(

Learned a little history today. Thanks. My grandfather was an Irish catholic but I was raised protestant. Go figure.

What, they don't sell Challengers where you live, Knight?
Nah just good cars.
Good enough for me, amigo.
