Claim made and appointment booked with body shop to take out scratch/repaint. This is a leased vehicle so I figured I better get it done. Thanks to that unknown effing neighbor or neighbor's guest who is going to cost me $250.
In other news...built my first model aircraft in 20+ years.
Nice!
I built that when it was called the YF12A. I won it in a model contest at Air Cadet camp back in the 60's. My winning model was a nicely painted Lancaster.
Car is in shop and rental provided. They are going to have to repaint the left side front door, back door, and rear quarter panel. Should get it back early next week. Thanks neighbor.
Well I got fired on Tuesday, I was never late, I worked on average 43 hours per week, I got all my work done, everyone in my company liked me except my boss. He fired me because I was frustrated with my training, in that I wasn't getting trained in what I needed to be and he expected me to miraculously develop the skills without training. He told me I was not doing what I needed to over the last 2 and a half years; and when I was honest with him about my frustrations, he fired me.
Saw an old friend from work last week. We talked about the newest TVs and video games, just like old times. Thankfully I got to shake his hand and give him a hug. He passed this morning.

That sucks Free...Hope you find something where you are appreciated soon.
Deep sad news, I know that feeling.
No snow news, had a bit then it melted.
Not been gaming for a while, since the studio got it's major upgrade I have been too busy, so much to learn, so many instruction manuals, so much new software. Not a complaint by any means but upgrading everything at once has been a hell of a learning curve. My brain has been fried most of the time. In the process of reworking some old material I was doing with my sadly departed musical partner. It been a few years since I looked at any of it. Sadly much of it was just in the process of being re-done when he passed, so it is a case of applying some pretty serious editing on some ropy takes that were only ever meant to be place holders. Fortunately there is some amazing software called Melodyne that is enabling me to rework things like recorded vocals and instruments by editing them forensically. It's time consuming but rewarding.
Still it's Saturday night, a bottle of wine has just been opened and the stereo is blasting out rock at unfeasible volumes and my lady is dressed to kill...So time to turn of the computer and...
Had a call the other day, a pal asked if I would be willing to help a Jamaican friend of his record a reggae version of an Irish song. Well I love a project and this is a genera I am not well acquainted with. So I said sure. Turns out the dude is a "singer" put in quotes because...well he is not. Leaving me to put the backing track together. Time to put my software suite to a real test. Hunted out a midi file of the song in question, quickest and easiest start point. Fire up a package called Band in a Box, this takes the midi file extracts the chords and allows me to apply any one of hundreds of song styles creating the various musical parts itself while allowing me to pick the performances and tweak them to get close to what I need. Once that was done it then gets imported into my DAW (Logic Pro X) Then I can tweak, change sounds, process and add effects (like the classic Dub echo) and get a rough mix ready for a vocal pass. All went very well, got very close to what sounded to me like an authentic Jamaican groove. Phoned up the dude and played him the result over the phone...At the end there was a moments silence, then he said "You did dat in a day?" "Yup" I said. "Man you is fast 'bro. I better learn de song"...Yeah...that may be an idea. He is a sweet bloke, and sure I don't mind helping a fellow out, but after he came back into the studio to has a fly at the vocals I realized I was going to have a lot of work in post to lick them into shape. Still it is all good practice, if I can get it sounding any good, then I will have really learned my software. At the moment I have sent him off with a rough mix of the backing so he can practice and give me the best performance he can do...Then the fun starts.
Not really cheating mate, just using the tools available. The part that may seem like cheating is simply not reinventing the wheel. If you want to undo a nut and bolt you don't first make a spanner, you pull out one someone else has made from your toolkit. My real work is done during mixing and mastering, of course all those auto generated parts will need editing and tweaking as well, and all the guitar parts redone by me, as that is my instrument.
Now what I will do with your mans vocals could be, and is seen, by some as cheating. I don't subscribe to that. When I am working with people that have the drive, the inspiration but maybe were not blessed with a great singing voice. Then I will help out with my editing. If those folk that are earning millions miming their hits can get away with it, and be assured just about every pop artist with the exception of a very few have been auto tuned, to the point one made a point of stating on her CD cover that she hadn't. Well it's only fair that the rest if us get the same.
The trick is to capture the performance, the feeling and emotion. If a little help from me can pull the odd bum note into tune, correct an odd timing error but keep the heart of the performance then it's all good. Those with money can use session players and singers, musical arrangers, producers etc. The tech can now replace much of that and level the playing ground for us less well healed. I have a mate here, Brendan Perry of Dead Can Dance. He played me his ideas for his next album some time back...It was pretty basic, to be honest I could have done better, but, and it is a big but, when he pulls in his session guys, Bassist to add bass, guitarist to add guitar, keyboard players etc. Well then it goes from a sketch of rough ideas and is transformed in a full production guided by Brendan. I'd love to work that way, but not having that kind of money...Well I have to "Cheat"
Edit...And that wall of text was probably more than you needed or wanted LOL
An electrical device/program/software that enables the Biebers of the world to carry a tune when they don't have a bucket...
I shoulda been a teknikal righter...
Indeed, such eloquence. Though it is far more ubiquitous than that. It can also be used on instruments too. Add harmonies or vocal doubling. Melodyne is the undisputed king of such software and you can go far beyond just re-tuning a part, but sort timing word by word, lengthen or shorten a word or part of a word, affect the way a vocalist has scooped onto a note...Even a proficient singer will often use it in search of perfection or to rescue what was an almost perfect performance marred by an error. YouTube have many examples of before and after, some are quite an eye opener.
Saw Deadpool, not a kids movie, not even close. Having been familiar with his treatment in the comics, I have to say they NAILED IT! Relatively low budget for this genre, characterization, dialogue, action, storyline, everything absolutely on target.
What's up, dudes. Hey there, Free Radikal. You're lookin good, I gotta say! But dont get any ideas. My mama always told me not to go poking around with strange beavers.
In all seriousness... Whoa, I just read the post where you said you were fired. I'm really sorry to hear that! Good luck to you

Where's the big red X at? I can almost see Wolverine inside!...

One of my prouder memories.
Most of the snow is gone around here. Suppose to be almost 60* this weekend.

That's really sad news FR.
I'm hoping beyond hope you can find good employment soon.
Thanks Deep!
I hope you find better employment Free. Places that provide training are wonderful when you can find them.

Another acquaintance from work passed yesterday.
I feel really old today.

Sounds like a lot of fun and cheating Knight.

Stan Lee DJ'ing in a strip club, priceless...
I agree it was a great movie. It is rated R so that right there tells you it's not for kids. Can't wait for the 2nd one.
Great news! Quote train! Woohoo!
Grats Free!
Congrats Free!
Nice!
You know Free, I woulda expected more art work from an unemployed beaver...just sayin'...
Congrats again!
