Also the downloading from work can be done now oldschool. Just log on to xbl.Com with your profile and have the Xbox set to network on while off and remote download away :)
wait you can set the 360 to have the network on while the console is off??
I know you can start a DL and then shut your 360 off and it will continue to DL. I do it all the time
yes, mine is set up that way too. but not the other way around. you'd need some sort of wake-on LAN where it pings MS's server even when the power is off.
Yeah thats what I have. Its called the Wife
+1. Antiquated technology, sure. But damn reliable.
i think I have 6 or 7 360 games, and all I play is Forza..If I could switch between two games easier I might just do digital, or even Forza digital and still a disc of something else in drive.
I'll have to see how big the games are and what HD space looks like AND ( take a breath) what the HD options turn out to be after release...but yeah, maybe.
As far as starting a game download remotely, it shouldn't be much different than the process today.
Today we can buy games on demand and DLC from xbox.com and when we next turn on our Xbox 360 it is in the active download queue already.
With Xbox One, its seamless updating and downloading should let xbox.com purchases be actually downloading while still away from the console.
Buy a game while away, come home that day and its fully downloaded. It should work, as long as people have it connected to the Internet.
It sucks when discs get scratched, and "being careful" isn't always enough to prevent that. I'm betting people who manage to get a scratched, lost, or broken disc will discover how much they prefer digital downloads in a hurry.

That's what I'm after!
As for the disc checking, I still say they can do it same as the PC's, they just don't want to. Hell, with the connect, you wouldn't even have to type the code in, just scan it and done. They don't want to, and we're to suffer for it because of the whole 24hr check that got shut down. Ooo, that'll show us. Asshats. Just push people further towards PCs. I have a shelve full of discs that aren't required to play the PC games.

what? you needed the 24 hour check to implement that and still let people lend and sell games (which you can't do with PC games so it's moot). The public complained and they were forced to change that - they WANTED to let you do it without the disc check, but the public freaked out. So, that's not on MS.
If you have to scan a code to tie the disc to your account, that's more Internet requirement than the Xbox One has now.
If doing this makes the disc optional for being in the drive, then the 24 hour check would have to come back as well. Otherwise, people could tie it with a code, then let their buddy play with the disc without going online.
The code would have to be required in order to work well, which isn't much different than the original plan that people screamed against.
Once the code is used, the disc is useless. How does that enable someone offline to play with it? Sure the code HAS to be entered and processed ONLINE, but then it's done. If you put the disc in somewhere else, it won't work without the code that's already been validated and now useless...
Do you guys deliberately try to find a way around someones post? I mean, I don't get it. If you're that bored, go play your damn X Box. Whatever.

tell me how you'd sell or lend disc games, then. that's the whole point.

I'm sorry if taking an alternative viewpoint, or pointing out why things are the way they are is upsetting. I was playing my Xbox just earlier if that's any consolation.
What you're essentially saying is that you'd want disc games to not be tradable and also require the Internet to play.
That sounds like what caused massive backlash and a "180" to me.
@Oldschool. When the Xbox first got announced with the 24hr checkin etc everything you have asked for was possible.
Now that has gone its either disk or digi.
Personally the only reason why using the game code scan idea is so I don't have to download the game. Otherwise why not just buy it digital if you don't want to sell it on etc?
Scanning codes with Kinect is great for things like Xbox Live cards, and Microsoft currency cards or whatever the new MS point cards will be. I bet those could be easily scanned with Smartglass and added to an account while away from a console, but I doubt there's much need to do so.
Yeah, I'm not a participant of the used market and anyone who would use my games lives under my roof, so none of that will affect me. I want to buy while I'm in town and install to drive, swap on demand. This is my idea with the ideal set up. The only thing that bothered me from the original was that 24 hr shut down aspect as I live way out in the sticks and sometimes after a storm it takes them a while to fix the cable network. Not as critical as the power so it takes a bit longer.
Years back we had a snow and were down 2 weeks...Didi I mention we're 16 inches ahead of our yearly average for rain this year? Yearly I said.
yeah unfortunately you can't make "some of them" code only (destroy disc) and some of them regular type discs without codes. So it's either/or, and the public made it clear they don't want codes/checkin. So, there you go.
i think most of the public were unhappy that if you did not have a connection it was essentially a brick/TV receiver and most people already have a tv receiver of some kind so you pay for a games console thats only a games console when you have internet.

Actually I did read they said they intend to do that with dlc and gold passes.
So doing it for a game is just as possible and hopefully likely for digital dl, of games.
Geez, there's a freudian slip, eh?
Connect / Kinect...
yes, everything BUT using the code to do away with disc checks...
honestly, the code scan IS a boon, sometimes I have to get someone with better eyesight to read mine off....gif)
