On the subject of the used game thing, MEH. I sell all my old games, but if they do this hopefully they would take a page from steams pricing model. That way games that have been out a while you would get at a significant price reduction. I also agree with Church on this. The PC market does not really have a used game market, so jumping ship to that just because MS/Sony take away that ability is a little premature and reactionary.
I roll my games over from title to title, rarely do i ever go back and play a game once i've completed it even when DLC comes out. I'm not the type of gamer that sticks with games, i consume them and move on. So if i can get a $20-$30 reduction in the cost of buying a new game, i can play more games because I can afford to buy more games. If i have to shell out $60 per title (who knows, maybe more for Durango/PS4 games) then I might only buy 4 a year, won't take chances on new IPs in case they suck and will just help perpetuate the cycle of mediocre derivative releases. Right now i enjoy supporting new IPs becaue i'm only out 30 bucks and I can resell / trade it if it sucks. I'm off the Halo, Call of Duty, etc regurgitation cycle.
It's true that PC games have had single use activiation codes for over 10 years now and there's a growing trend of 'always on' there that consoles are going to mimic it sounds like. The lack of a used game market on PC is one reason i switched to Xbox 11 years ago, but if all things are becoming equal with Durango ... then thinking about going back to PC becomes a much more interesting thought process. PC games are usually cheaper, patches come faster and DLC is often free, not to mention the huge catalog of free to play games that in many cases are every bit as good as $60 console titles that has zero support on consoles. PC gaming and Console gaming are starting to converge, picking up each others bad habits.
@Fatlunch
Buying a PS4 was never a consideration, there's nothing appealing to me about that console at all so it wouldn't even cross my mind. I'd go back to PC gaming and probably go to tablet gaming before I'd consider a PS4 LoL.
Well ya that's the other thing that's changed with games, is every dev/publisher wants their game to be something you play and stick with until their next one comes out. Which ok that's fine, IF YOUR GAME IS GOOD ENOUGH perhaps it justifies that business model and i'm sure many gamers would be happy to buy into that. Problem is A) there are plenty of gamers out there like me who don't want ot play the same thing for a year and B) probably 80% of the shit the game industry puts out isn't worth of that kind of a time committment, they think they're all relationship material when actually they're just one night stands that got to clingy.
Guys I think this whole debate will gradually become irrelevant.
The market is moving towards free to play. The disk or code or whatever you need to play the game will cost nothing and as such there will be no need for a used market. Publishers will make all their money on micro transactions, season passes, in game advertising and so on.

The market will go where the consumer allows it to go. Although, as I stated before, people are sheep. They will just keep lining up to buy this garbage until the industry is nothing more than popcap games for suburban moms and vapid dlc ridden shooters for Timmy.

While I do agree with this on the PC side, i dont' think we're really going to see that on the console side. The word "Free" and Microsoft don't go together. There are numerous cases where devs have given free DLC to PC players and intended to give it to the console gamers free but Microsoft wouldn't allow it. I think we're going to contiue to see on the console side the money making put first and foremonst above everything else and Free to Play doesn't fit into that well. But I think we will see at least one or two experimental releases on the next xbox to test the waters, but if they don't do well it'll be dead and buried just like MMOs, cross platform gaming and user generated content (though this has lived on in a very very limited capacity for a few select titles).
Maybe they will try release day DLC and make us pay for it...
Hold on a minute..
Or here's another idea.... sell the consumer a $60 game but then charge them extra to unlock the content on that disc they already paid for! Then feed them some line of bullshit to try and justify it like 'we're saving you from having to download it by already putting it on the disc' O_o

Forza 4 had 2, TWO!! Day one DLC's
Funny thing is actually felt hurt by it but still bought them :-(
they currently are testing the freee to play, micro transaction game type with the game "Happy Wars" on XBLA. The game is fun but to get the weapons to really pwn in the game you need to cough up the credits to get them. I dont know if it is working or not. I am playing but have not dropped one microsfoft point into it as of yet.
I've been going more and more PC lately. 3 primary racing sims, rFactor, Race07, iRacing (plus a couple other occasionals), Guild Wars 2, Diablo 3 and a little Battlefield 3. I use the PS3 almost nightly...but primarily for Netflix or BlueRay. The Xbox only gets fired up a couple times a week. I honestly don't think I will be purchasing either of the new consoles right after they release. I may revisit the idea a few months later after the initial rush and bugs get ironed out (maybe a price drop by then), but consoles just aren't real high on my priority list at this time.
In addition to gaming, I've got a couple project cars ('94 Mustang Cobra, '76 914, '73 F-250 Highboy), getting back into cycling, learning guitar (already starting a collection ), and have gotten the Mid-century Modern bug for my new (to me) house (1965 ranch). Free time is a premium for me. It seems like I'm always on the go.
We'll see, maybe they will have features that I will like. Time will tell. But the new consoles will be something I will play by ear.

Each to there own I suppose.
Although I wish racing on the PC was cheaper.
To buy all the tracks and cars for iracing with a years pass your looking at around $1000+ :-(
The issue is all PC games are now going this way.
I really do think the buy a game and get 2 years use out of it on the original price will soon be over for everything, the reason why?
It's perfect business sense for the producers as everyone keeps buying the stuff, good or bad

now if i could just find a gaming laptop for around the cost of a new xbox/ps4 - i would jump back to PC gaming in a heart beat.
$2000 for a laptop to last 3-5 years isnt exactly cost effective when you compare the cost of an Xbox that will last the same.
idk.. only time will tell on the new systems!
alienware 14x starts at 999.00 and has more power than the xbox720s leaked specs.
Still more expensive than a 720 but it's in line with a decent laptop pricing and it'll play all the latest games.
Not for nothing, I got 1500 into the 360.

Which is exactly why they have and will keep doing it.
I got the limited and had everything day one... However, Horizon was a waste of money and I'm sooo glad I avoided the season pass...
Yes oldschool I'm so glad I did not buy any dlc on that poop

I do play a few Free to play games but don't spend anything on them.
This may be the best was to play it as the companies will realize to keep it as it has been. Pay for a game and get everything.
