Yeah, I disagree with that too.

I am guessing your point is, when tired of the free content you move on to another game? My wife and I practice this on our SURFACES. Truth is though, eventually a game will come along that we would be willing to pay for.

Yes.  Play a game in a Family Member’s game collection for free.  When finished, do you pay for DLC?  Or do you look at the game collections of your 10 Family Members for other complete titles that you haven’t played, complete titles that you can also play for free?  I agree, there would still be reasons to buy the occasional DLC.  But mostly I see opportunity to cherry pick free stuff from your Family’s game libraries, and no driving incentive to buy DLC.

I can see it going both ways, honestly.  I'm not a huge DLC-buyer, and I've been contemplating the pros and cons of selling Skyrim for a used GOTY edition, in order to get all the DLC.  If I got a game for free, I would like to think I'd be more apt to buy DLC.  I always thought they should just give away copies of WoW now these days, and get people hooked on the free month before charging them for their newest addiction.

XBL just had a 50% sale on all Skyrim DLC last week. I know a lot of folks take umbrage to the fact that DLC isn't included on the game disc, but it's a cheap way to get extra content and mileage from a game that the player already has. Both Dawnguard and Dragonborn were worth it at full price...Hearthfire can suck it. IfI'm willing to buy a game, then I'm usually willing to spring for the LE and accompanying DLC, but since I play so many games I end up renting most of them, and I only buy the keepers...and that's only after I have done the research. Games like Fallout, Skyrim, Oblivion, and Forza I have an insane amount of time invested in, largely due to post-release content.  I can also see it going both ways, but every gamer is different...some folks are Red Box renters only, some are price drop buyers, and some will only buy new games and hang on to them forever. MS is in the unenviable position of trying to please everyone and it just ain't gonna fucking happen. I personally like being able to rent games from the video store...mainly because I can't afford to be out $60 every time I review a game, but I can see the value in the diez amigos plan too. It's strange to see MS act so indecisively regarding major policies like this and I hope that they get their shit together soon.

which policy?

If discs went away, you know some form of digital rental would come about.

I used the plural there..."policies" indicates more than one. Microsoft has changed their stance on several, and I'm still not sure exactly what I will be picking up on Nov. 22, and I'm not very confident that the service won't be altered once I have the product. MS has backtracked on DRM, hardware compatibility, Kinect requirement...what will the next policy reversal be? I'm still getting the XBone on launch day, but my confidence in the console has been compromised. Digital rentals would be fine, but I like having the disc...same reason I still buy CDs and DVDs.

Holy shit.  You're old.  I bet that Sony's R&D was full of folks, excited for some MiniDisc format they were whipping up on the eve of the release of the iPod.  That next day, there must have been a lot of backtracking and paper-crumpling.

Perhaps they were hasty with scrapping those plans.  You're still in the game.

I am old, but not so old that I can't roll either way. If MS goes all digital then it will leave room on my shelf for DVDs and adult diapers. As long as I'm not paying $60 for every piece of shit game that I review then I'm happy.

I tend to not buy a lot of games either.  I'll pick up 4 or 5 games a year, I'd say.

(Now that I'm thinking about it, last year was Blops 2, Minecraft, Halo 4,and Borderlands 2 on the console, and Crusader Kings 2, Civ V, and Defiance on the PC if you want to count those this year during the Summer Sale.  GTAV is a lock in a few days, but after that?)

I have on numerous occasions tried to convey my feelings about an all digital world and why I think it's a terrible idea that will only benefit the publishers. I found a video by Boogie2988 that explains it much more eloquently than I have. Hope you watch it.

That "Fucking Dork" is not Francis. That's a character he portrays on Youtube. I'd wager that the guy cares more about gaming than most as it saved his life and is his lively hood. As for "Winning a battle", that's not what this post was about. I simply posted a video that explained my viewpoint in a much better way than I have considering any time I post about anything It's taken as being condescending or belittling others.

This is a topic that I, as a low income yet life long gamer feel very passionately about. Although responses like this make me wonder why the hell I even try to talk to anyone around here.

Because like you I also have an opinion and the internet... just like Boogie/Francis. I dont expect for everyone here to like what I do or say, but i also dont get butthurt and take things too personally. Lighten up dude. And youre right im sure he does care more about gaming than i do as i have a life outside of it.

I like you guys. Parcells agrees with your feelings about the digital world but I dont see how this video helps your/our cause.

Parcells dont disagree with the fat bastard but all I heard was how the gamng industry is just like every other corporate America industry no surprises. Obviously he has an issue with Gamestop but he spent a fair bit of the video trying to convince people not to trade-in physicial discs with Gamestop when physical discs is what you/we're trying to keep.

Bla bla bla it doesn't matter what quickly came to my realization is this guy is a hard core gamer. Rich or poor he wants everything gaming but guess what? He's a small percentage of the core market, Parcells theory is this is similar to Forza where most of us Forza guys are hard core yet the main Turn 10 spokesperson recently and finally admitted that while the hard core SIM racers may be the most vocal (because we're passionate about the game) we are not the most popular (aka market share) by no means.

It's concievable Parcells may have some personal issues with this third person speak and all but like someone above eluded to, he's not a hard core gamer so none of this shit matters to him (me) or MS or Sony etc. Of course there's always the possibility my theory is misconcieved I'm pretty high right now.

I for one would love to see GameStop and their price gouging initative go out of business. I worked for them during last years holiday season and they are evil just like Wal-Mart.

the original X1 model was their attempt to please everyone (could still buy/sell used games, but also all discs could transform to digital) but people freaked out.

I realize you want used plastic.  We all realize this.  I don't care all that much, and want all digital, but I don't begrudge you your plastic.  However, there may not be a good way to please everyone and also not raise prices or stunt benefits.

No.  The original X1 model was their attempt to improve profitability.  The rest of it (used games, discs or digital, sharing, etc) was simply part of the sales pitch to make the model palatable to consumers, a sales pitch MS failed to fully make.  In the end it was MS that freaked out and abandoned their model.

I'm just going to go out on a limb here and say that proof or work showing isn't required.  Last I checked, Microsoft wasn't a non-profit organization.  Ergo, *any* change to its business model is an attempt to improve profitability.  It's the driving force of every single corporation in existance.  No, I won't find a source for that; it's common sense, it doesn't need a source.

of course, most is for profit.  But certain things are just shift in functionality over time.  Also if you did the math, using the snap function needed digital, and letting all games be "digital" made that function actually useful.

No company releases a new model with the hope and desire to reduce profitablilty...That's just stupid...

Writing off games because you review them only works if you're making a profit or the IRS soon looks at your you tube channel as a hobby...

Myself personally, would never buy DLC for a game I don't already own ( skip the licensing mumbo jumbo, I already get that)...

I agree with the free game thing, why buy dlc when you can just play the next free game, already been there done that...but I'm getting pretty tired of the free game thing in general, as I know the sales pitch is inevitable and I'm not interested...Candy Crush can suck it! ( Dots is ok...)

I agree with Jones point of view for the most part. I do like having the disc, BUT I also like the idea of switching games by pushing a button, it's kinda nice. As far as I know, I've never lost a digitally downloaded game yet...

OhI also agree with Jones on Parcell...Can it!

All I've learned is that Parcells is high.
