The Power of Recognition by Your Peers

Today at work I was met with an unexpected and very nice suprise. During our annual employee pancake breakfast, which traditionally marks the official kickoff of the holiday shopping season for the retail outfitter for which I work, I was given a special employee recognition award by my management team. This honor is awarded once a year to one employee from each location and is based on nominations by fellow employees, with the final recipient being determined by the management team for that store.

HELL EXPLAINED BY A CHEMISTRY STUDENT

The following is an actual question given on a University of Arizona chemistry mid term.

The answer by one student was so 'profound' that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well :
Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

Getting Back to Why I like Gaming

I was thinking this morning about how gaming has taken over my life. From collecting classic home consoles to repairing coin-op machines to working with 2old2play and other outside partners setting up events to Twitter et cetera, et cetera. I realized that I spend far more time talking about, twittering about and listening to podcasts about games than I actually do playing them.

Coin-op Repair Session and Classic Console Swap-Meet - Friday, November 20th

In an effort to reconnect with my local friends in the gaming hobby (both console and coin-op) I will be hosting one of my classic video game gatherings at my house this Friday, November 20th. We will have a collection of home console and coin-op enthusiasts on hand with gear for sale and trade. This event will also include a "cap-kit/repair" session for those of us who like to work on the coin-op and modding side of things. The grill will be fired up and the beer will flow. So if you live in the vicinity of Boston and want to join us, send me a pm for directions and my phone number.
