Good Stuff

Good stuff that I am enjoying this month:

Gaming:  Crackdown:  Got this from Gamefly on a whim.  It's really a lot of fun.  I think it got a bad rap.  If they had released this at $50 with no H3 beta, people would have loved it. Still looking to do some co-op.

Drink: W.L. Weller Bourbon - Good stuff, not up there with some of the $50 a bottle stuff, but definitely good enough to drink on the rocks by itself

Natural Selection

Sometimes it seems like a Safety Engineer (like me) is in a constant struggle with natural selection (aka Darwin).  Recent conversations that I have had with people across the industry convince me that well paid mechanical and chemical engineers are just as ignorant of danger as your average middle school drop out construction helper.  Examples of the stuff I deal with every day:

Haven't Blogged in a while

Here's a summary of what has happened since my last blog:

Lots of work.  WHOLE LOTTA work.

Car died. Went to KY to visit family and get new car (got a car dealing in-law)

Kids got older, did cool stuff.

Built a linux box with my son.

My daughter learned to climb out of her crib, which led to me doing the next thing on my list.

Broke the tip of my thumb while converting a crib to a toddler bed.

I'm now on a business trip.  A vendor took me out to dinner and fed me and plyed me with MUCH drink, rendering me loquacious.

Thrown out of Wal-Mart

Things have been busy lately.  My daughter got tubes in her ears on Monday, and fortunately, my Mom was able to come down and help out during that time.  So I had to have her at the airport at 5 this morning for her flight out.  I really don't need to be at work until 6:30 or 7, so I go to Wal-Mart to pick up some frozen meals for lunch and wander over to grab some donuts for the office.

I walk up to the only check out open in the store and the guy in front of me in line says "Do you work here?"

Me: "No."

Microsoft Word

I hate Microsoft Word. It is one of the few things that can send me into a gibbering, cussing rage in only a few minutes. I'm usually a pretty laid back guy, but Word turns me into a spitting, screaming mess. I think that a large part of the reason I go t out of Technical Writing and into Safety Engineering and Industrial Hygiene is WORD. I'm glad, I like my job now. But I can't get away from Word. Why are there 5,000 styles in every document, even ones that are all plain text with no formatting?
