Hoy Smoke! 2013 E3

Gotta laugh at MS bad E3 luck. The best E3 for MS ever and Sony manages to steal the thunder. And the hurrah is all for naught. The future of gaming is with Xbox One. But they are early. Sony has been early before as well and paid for it in lost market share. Remains to be seen how slow new Xbox One sales will be. Looking back at 2001 and Bill Gates announcing ("the one box for your living room" (paraphrased), at E3, xb1 seems pretty consistent with their vision of the future.

State of Decay, post-patch.

-NEW: Playable characters can no longer be killed by the simulation
-Workshop now repairs weapons and vehicles at game dawn rather than the next real-world day.
-Reduced cooldown times of commands in the Radio Menu, notably Words of Encouragement, Words of Inspiration, and Medical Advice.
-NPCs no longer get stuck behind the counter or on the stairs at the gun shop in Spencer's Mill.
-The "Too many infestations!" event will now only occur when there are too many infestations within 500m of your Home, rather than anywhere in the world.

How I Buy My Entertainment

Music - digital downloads only, save the odd deluxe collector's edition (the recent Pink Floyd Immersion box sets por ejemplo).

Books - digital downloads only, with the occasional title that is only available in physical form

Movies - purchasing - 99% physical, but...I prefer the physical copy to include a digital copy.  I'm fine renting digitally though (Amazon, Apple TV, PSN, Xbox Marketplace, Zune whatever it's called).

PC Games - digital downloads only

Console Games - physical preferred, digital only when necessary (XBLA, PSN titles).

State of Decay, a look at fighting and outfitting.

In State of Decay there's no specific class-system. Everybody who isn't a zombie is a survivor. However, each survivor may have a set of skills that puts him or her in a specific arche-type. There are three.

  • Powerhouse
  • Reflex
  • Average

These are just the skills to look for when training up your survivors. Average is no skill, it just means that the survivor isn't a Powerhouse or a Reflex.

Outfitting your survivors should now not be mystery anymore.

What's For Lunch?

I have noticed a disturbing trend at the place that I work right before lunch. At least three different guys share the same bathroom habit of washing their hands first, urinating, then walking out without washing their hands to go eat lunch. These guys must want nothing on their hands when they eat, except the flavor of their own cock. I personally have never eaten anything that would be improved with the addition of a sweaty dick, and I've never seen that particular ingredient in a cook book.

E3 Thoughts

I was at a conference for work, so I didn't get to see any of the big presentations - mostly, I just read up on articles when able.  It reminds me of the Luna song, Slide - "noho's got the boots, soho's got the crack, new england has the foliage but I'm not going back".

Xbox One had better games, but a disasterous PR effort.

Nintendo had nothing to even convince me to think about entertaining the notion of possibly buying a Wii-U anytime soon.

Sony got a huge lift by catering to the voice of the internet and taking some well played shots against Microsoft.

TITANFALL WILL CHANGE THE INDUSTRY FOREVER!!! OMG BEST FPS IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE!!

It's been a long time, wow!

Hope everyone is enjoying their summers and shit. I am working like a dog, not playing much on the XBOX anymore and I have a new daughter who is now just over 2 months old. Fuck the console wars and internet beefs. Enjoy your time with your friends and family, thats all that matters in the end.

Download Me, Now

I read this article today....The one where Microsoft defends their stance on digital:

http://www.cnn.com/2013/06/12/tech/gaming-gadgets/microsoft-defends-xbox-one/index.html?hpt=te_t1

I'm certain Microsoft got their ideas about new business models for downloadable content from me:
