 My decision to quit being an avant-gardistic gamer yesterday was a long time in the making. It does beg to pose a few questions. Do I return to my roots? And what will I do now?

 With SRTT being a total clusterfuck and the last disappointment in a long line of disappointments this year, I have come to the point where I am done. Gaming is not fun anymore. We're paying developers to be beta-testers for games that aren't any good to begin with. If you can only name one game that didn't disappoint this year, then you know that you're at the end of a hobby's life.

 If Saints Row the Third  is a sign of the future of gaming, then we have not much to look forward to. Volition didn't improve, but chose to scale down. In effect SRTT is a barebone and the only way to get a full experience is by getting every little piece of DLC they're about to release for the coming 40 weeks.

I haven't played much yet, so I don't have a solid opinion on how good or bad SRTT is. But as it is, I'm happy I kept SR2. I'm not impressed, yet. Underwhelmed, yes. That I am.

Volition dropped the ball, if my first 2 hours with SRTT is anything to go by.

 Suldrun explored Markarth and kitted herself out with some basic gear. Doing her best not get involved with the city's infighting, she still picked up a profound disliking for the Dominion none the less. First the Imperials killing her kinsmen and now a bunch of noisy elves telling her not to worship Talos? More and more, Suldrun is thinking about throwing her weapons in with the Stormcloaks.

 It wasn't long before Suldrun and Lidya, her housecarl, became spectacularly lost in the wilderness and retraced their steps back to Whiterun. During the expedition, dragons were overcome, Sabercats declared Suldrun a mortal enemy of their species and wolves took to severely disliking her, but Suldrun returned home triumphant clutching, with a delighted grin on her face, numerous pairs of boots to her chest. I dare not catalogue what was left behind in favor of the boots.

 After recovering the Golden Claw and getting initiated into blacksmithing, leatherworking and woodchopping, village-life, she decided, wasn't for her. Having found out that there's a city called Whiterun, she takes Gendar up on notifying the Jarl of the fact that thar be dragons. The Jarl immediately takes a liking to her, believes anything she says and sends a contingent of soldiers to Gendar's village. Good man! Having already recovered the Golden Claw, the errand the Jarl has tasked her with was a snap, but then the Dragon appears.

 After getting my feet wet yesterday and looking around a bit, I decided to start over today and created a Nord girl. With all the Nords running around, I felt very out of place as a Redguard! She's a strong high-blonde with light blue eyes called Suldrun Hakonen, who after seeing her kinsmen getting beheaded on the order of an Imperial captain who's only desire seems to be the decimation of the Nord people, quickly took the side of the Stormcloaks.

Currently, Suldrun is recovering the Golden Claw.

 In a year from now, people will ask you where you were when Skyrim went on sale.

 ... I was sitting in a Japanese Sushibar sampling oriental goodness. I went there with my sister Barbie (actual name), my nephew Thom and brother in law Martin. Barbie is the sister who offered to take me in when it became obvious that my progressive disability was eating too deep in my desire to remain independant. What she and her husband did and are doing for me is legend and being with them makes me a better person than I am.
