puppies second week

As the title says, we are on our second week of raising the puppies. Those little buggers are growing fast, and are starting to open their eyes. By the end of the weekend I expect that their ears will open too and that they will be aware of their surroundings. For the most part it's been pretty enjoyable with the exception of getting up at 3am to do feedings

Puppy update day 4

The little runts are doing so well nursing that we have been able to scale back their feedings to every 3 hours. Typically a feeding is taking us on the average of 10 to 15 minutes less as Lola is producing milk like there is no tomorrow! Generally they all nurse for 20-30 minutes, get a bottle for a few minutes, and are out for 2.5 hours or so afterwards.

first puppy pic

Everything went better than expected today. Lola did extremely well, and recovered in no time flat. She is a bit slow moving, but is a lot more alert and HUNGRY than even the vet anticipated.

She ended up having 6 puppies-1 boy and 5 girls. They all have nice coloring and will be a nice deep brown/red when they get bigger.

Soooo without any further ado:

Here is one of Lola before we left for the vet:

The big day!

Today I will be leaving work at noon, and taking my bulldog to the vets for her to have her puppies today!  My wife and I have never bred dogs before, and are a bit nervous about it.

I thought it would be cool to chronical the whole process here, complete with pics.   Later today when everyone is back home and settled, I will snap a few  pics and load them here.  Does anyone know the proper size for posting pics?

Puppies

So a month or so ago, my wife and I took one of our English Bulldogs to the breeder we got her from to get her impregnated. A couple weeks went by, and we didn't notice any change in her demeanor, and thought that it didn't take. Well, a couple weeks ago we noticed that Lola's (her name) belly was starting to swell, and we took her to the vet for an ultrasound. She confirmed at least 5 puppies, but her exact words were "she is loaded". There could be as many as eight in there.

Aftermath.

Well here we are again at the beginnings of a brand new week.

As I mentioned last week, we had our first house party Saturday night. We had a great time, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Although at one point, a couple of our friends said:

"hey we're going up the street to have a drink, why don't you come with us"?

me: "Um no, I'm hosting a party..you know, the one I invited you to"?
