I read this and honestly couldn't believe it. Microsoft's Xbone will only work in 21 countries. No Japan, or China....no Korea? Gotta love Witcher 3 being a Polish developed game and the console won't work in Poland lol. I guess this is perfectly defensible too?

Why do you keep pulling routine stuff like this out like it is some kind of punch line? New products have this country dependent licensing issues all the time. The issues get ironed out gradually over time. None of this is cast in stone in perpetuity.

I am going to go with (based on past posts in several threads) because he does not like the new xbox, is amazed and confused as to why there are people who do and will buy it, cannot seem stop himself from sharing this opinion and berating people who try to have a positive outlook on this new console. That is just a guess though which could be completely off base...because after all...I did preorder the X1 and look forward to playing games on it.

There was no punch line or aggression Deep. Isn't this where we're supposed to discuss this? Sorry I'm not of your mind in the matter. If you don't like my posts on the subject, don't respond. Pretty simple really. I'm done with the adversarial bullshit.
@Shadow Japan has never been a big Microsoft supporter, but if this box is going to be so innovative and amazing, why would they not launch there and try to win over a country with 127+ million people? The culture is even more into gaming than ours. Seems like waving the white flag is not the act of someone confident that they are offering the best and most innovative console on the market.
Korea, another huge gaming market....arguably one of the biggest....I mean come on....Korea is THE country for competitive gaming. Again seems kind of silly to not launch there.
Finally think of countries like Poland, why are they being left out of the equation? Kind of a dick move to feature Witcher 3 while Poles won't be able to play it on the Xbox.
Edit: @infernal I'm not berating anyone. I am discussing the consoles period. I posted something I came across that was relevant to the conversation. Again, I'll say the same thing to you I said to Deep. I'm sorry I have a differing opinion than you, but that doesn't make me crazy or an asshole. It's a disscussion, and one I might add that was sparked quite a bit by myself and others.

You understand that these lists you linked to change over time?
You understand that these lists you linked to change over time?
They will launch in Asia, but not for at least a year later, and in Japan maybe not at all. My comment is toward the innovation claims with this new console. They have come out very confident that they are setting the new standard and paving the way. With that sort of confidence in the system, why the "Staged release" in Asia? Why ignore Japan and other countries completely?
I'm not being sarcastic or argumentative, I'm genuinely curious.

Do you know if this list isn't a better showing for an XBox console than they had with the 180 or 360? Do you know there won't be another twenty countries added to the list by Nov. 2013?

because MS is a business and knows where to cut its losses. Japan only seems to like Japanese things, and that's Sony and Nintendo.
Korea, if I'm not mistaken is pretty much mostly PC gaming - they have internet hourly cafes for things like MMO's and Starcraft.

We all know it's a business but knowing where to "cut it's losses" is what I was driving at. My question was if this new console is so innovative and will push the industry to this new digital golden age, why not launch in Japan and put their money where their mouth is.
Same thing in Korea. Yes, it is mostly PC but if the Xbone is going to be such a wonderful platform to compete against one another utilizing the power of the cloud etc, why not launch there too and corner that market?
I understand being gunshy, but I honestly think that if the Xbone does deliver all that it promises to deliver, they could be missing out on a huge opportunity to grow their reach.

In order for Japan to even really consider the Xbone a couple things need to happen.
Japanese developers need to make the games the people like to play on the 360 or the Xbone. Currently none do because the field is being immulsified by Sony and Nintendo.
The second would be to have Sony and Nintendo die...
Korea is a competative gaming market, this is true. But that competative gaming is done almost exclusively on PC's,
Japan buys zero Xbox 360's. why would they even launch the One there? They don't give a shit. Also, China has locked down internet because they're oppressive, so there you go there. This is current, preliminary anyway. We have 5 months.
On a different note, this makes me very excited for the One:

PS4 is made by Sony. Sony is a Japanese company. They have many Japanese developers first party. PS4 is NOT launching in Japan.
Any comments?
edit: Xbox One is launching in Asia according to that list.
I honestly didn't know they were not launching there but I feel the same about the PS4 other than the fact that they are committed to launching there and will be region free. Even though they know that it will do well there, for some reason there's manufacturing concerns apparently? Sony may be making a big mistake by taking the fact that they do well in their home country for granted? Again a perfect opportunity for Microsoft with the self touted superior console to take control of the market there.
I don't see anything on that list that says Asia. Maybe I'm missing it somehow?
I don't see anything on that list that says Asia. Maybe I'm missing it somehow?
Most of Russia is in the continent of Asia ;)
Anyways, I can see supply issues happening with the PS4. I thought the February reveal seemed rushed - after all they could have waited two months to do the same thing, but with more concrete things to show, and still beat Microsoft to their entertainment heavy reveal. The reason they didn't show the box at Feb 21 was because the design wasn't finished. That was confirmed by Sony executives afterwards. There were issues on stage at Sony's E3 gameplay sessions. Might amount to nothing, but multiple games and developers makes me hesitate to say "it's an alpha game" for all of them. It still might not indicate a hardware issue. Additionally, Sony didn't commit to any individual month, and though they said USA and Europe, they later would say "at least one country" as their most specific list of launch regions.
If they do not launch in Japan, and in few countries, and the consoles are region free, people might buy them internationally creating a major shortage. Alternatively, they could have a ton of em to sell in more countries and include Japan on release day.
Just food for thought overall, but if they miss black friday and have a supply shortage that limits countries that could have a longer term effect.
At this point, its anyones guess, but I did want to say what I've seen across this entire year.
Sony doesn't seem ready, and I'm guessing they didn't want to launch a year behind again and are doing everything they can to force through any shortage issues. Which may lead to hardware issues on launch units.
Which amounts to about the same thing - Japan isn't a top priority for the Japanese company launching their big new product.
I don't think they are seeing it that way. I think they are pursuing just what I was questioning Microsoft for not pursuing. They are going after the countries they don't do so well in first and trying to win over the consumers. Yet as I said this could backfire, or could have if Microsoft had done the same and went aggressively after Japan.
I don't foresee any manufacturing problems and can almost guarantee they will launch in Japan at the same time they release it in the Europe markets and US.
I think the console being region free is winning over even more customers than they realize it would. I know for a fact that Australians have preordered the console on the US and UK Amazon and have been guaranteed shipping for $15 bucks. For Australians who struggle with the insane prices and shortages/difficulty obtaining games and consoles this is almost divine intervention.
You do realize glitches and errors occur all the time at e3 right? Even on consoles that have been out for years, and even on demos of games that will be releasing soon. Demos typically aren't the full game and developers can use snippets from different parts of the game (or even been removed from the final product) and mash them together to showcase the game. In fact, if I remember correctly, when the 360 was first showcased, it had no glitches or hardware issues during the event. And we all know what happened regarding the RRoD and e74 errors. :)
Here is question for you fact checkers...its possible I may have just missed this, but I know they are increasing the size of the FL, with the next gen will they be increasing the size of the party limit beyond 8? Also, do you think the increased amount of servers will fix the party system from randomly dropping people or the the party altogether?

We're some of the new games listed at limits of 32 and 64 players in a multiplayer setting? If yes, then maybe the party sizes will grow with that. My guess is yes.
As for the random dropping, we know that MS is touting the Cloud based dedicated servers. That could easily mean that fewer people would be dropped but I don't think even MS could reliably answer that.

It won't launch in Japan on release date if stock is tight. If there's plenty ps4's, it will launch at the same time.

Japan is weird?
If the music I listen to most and the shows I watch more than any others are any indication... then yes.
Jpop and anime for me :)

Exactly Laser, which is why I wrote it could easily end up being nothing.
Its just a piece of information to know. Not something to base a decision around at this point, of course :)
At least 5 more months of this.....
I know, its so much fun. Then people make their purchase, and can say what they actually do and enjoy the other side is incapable of doing or playing.
Years of awesome ahead, right? ;)
