I predict the family sharing is more limited in this potential flip. Has to be doesn't it? My head can't handle all of the ins and outs.

I would think they have to kill it.  Maybe it would still exists for digital downloads, but I would think going back to the old policies also brings the requirment for the disc to be present in the optical drive as well for verification.

I'm not sure...the rumor is that Steam is coming up with some sort of game sharing.  Maybe MS got wind of something that was a little more consumer friendly that Steam is implementing.

  • No more always online requirement
  • The console no longer has to check in every 24 hours
  • All game discs will work on Xbox One as they do on Xbox 360
  • An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console
  • All downloaded games will function the same when online or offline
  • No additional restrictions on trading games or loaning discs
  • Region locks have been dropped

If they get rid of the Family Sharing system they were talking about, I'd rather MS keep the new DRM polices.  That sounded awesome and I could care less about used games.

Same here.  I was pretty mentally prepared.

Actually, that makes MS even more laughable in my eyes.

Well, now with the bad policies removed and far more exclusives, there really isn't much of a reason to get anything other than an Xbox One at this point.

People whined, Microsoft backpedaled.

Progress!

Well, except for the price difference, great exclusive titles for the PS (Infamous, Uncharted, Killzone, MLB The Show), and what PS+ offers.

This is great news, but please quit acting like there's no reason to get a PS4.  That's just ridiculous thinking.

No people did not whine, jaysus can you not comprehend how your language just rubs people up the wrong way or do you do it on purpose to get your rocks off? As the first option requires the IQ of a dead slug I have to assume the second.

People complained, Microsoft have been facing a huge backlash and many people saying they were not going to buy the console.  This is about potential lost sales and nothing else.

Still have that Kinect that I would like to see as an option rather than a requirement, that is still enough to make me stick with the PS if I get another console, though now that 24 hour thing looks like it's done for I may pick a second hand one up in a couple of years, get rid of the Kinect and maybe I may switch back...but they have made such a mess of the whole thing, it doesn't't fill me with confidence in them as a company,

Knight it's really kinda gotten to the point that everytime you even see Autarch's name you get all pissy. Yeah he can be a dick, but the bad taste in your mouth needs to stop when you just jump into a conversation and quote him. Then bash him for some comment not directly pointing at you.

It has got nowhere near that point, and you could take a leaf out your own book. I have not just jumped in I have posted a couple ot three times on this thread. And every time have had my post picked at. Anyway I'll just go back to reading Bye.

The disc stuff would benifit non-family share members.  They could easily still have this feature.  If they do... I mean this is ridiculous really how much of a game changer it is.

Last week at E3, the excitement, creativity and future of our industry was on display for a global audience.

For us, the future comes in the form of Xbox One, a system designed to be the best place to play games this year and for many years to come. As is our heritage with Xbox, we designed a system that could take full advantage of advances in technology in order to deliver a breakthrough in game play and entertainment. We imagined a new set of benefits such as easier roaming, family sharing, and new ways to try and buy games. We believe in the benefits of a connected, digital future.

Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One.

You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you. Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world.

So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:

  • An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

  • Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions.

These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.

We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds.

Thank you again for your candid feedback. Our team remains committed to listening, taking feedback and delivering a great product for you later this year.

In the end though, mircosoft still loses. That beat-down at the E3 was a historic event and I think that's microsofts turn-around is more based on that than on what people had to say. If you have to blame anyone, blame Sony for perfectly playing the field and revealing their fifth ace at the point where it would have the most impact and hurt microsoft the most. I don't think microsoft would have changed course if Sony had played dead-on-arrival.

No, there certainly is something here.  Microsoft's new PR firm should be making hay over the PS3 being bricked because of their system update.

All Sony did was say "we're not changing or innovating anything.  Play the PS4 like it's a PS3!  Nothing is different!" and people ate it up.  Rather than stepping into the digital age and taking a chance.

From what I'm seeing on twitter, it doesn't sound like this affects digital distribution at all.  Just Family Sharing so far.

Yeah...I have to admit...I think I'd rather have the shared library.  I have some family I would have added and sometimes they get different games then I do.  It would have been cool to play some of them without actually having to purchase them. I also wonder if this will slow down the switching of windows, ect or not now that a disc is involved.

I'm not really bitching.  I just liked the features of the shared family plan.  I also didn't have any issues really for the drm to begin with...I have the X1 preordered and this doesn't change the fact I still plan on getting one.  I'm more curious if this will change anything in the system itself and if so will that cause pushbacks for release?

Why couldn't they just leave it as it was but add a disc check in case you do not have an online connection available.

Its more complaining that an excellent feature to save money isn't available due to very vocal complaints.

Its great that people can play Xbox One deep in a woods or under the ocean now.  However, this change will cost me hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

I'm not going to buy any disc games to avoid the disc switching at least.
