With the roaster, I really have no need for the chicken pen at all. It's just an easy way to gather exp quickly. Pick up a stack of seed, right click hold down and sweep across the chickens and they eat it up and get jiggy wit it!

Thinking about a totally enclosed structure a bit farther away from the compound. I don't get any lag but I guess it affects others. Maybe out in the zombie field behind me to the north as everyone comes in from the south.
Hmm, maybe an automated cart delivery system to transport the meat to the house? More track, hoppers and minecart chests?

Well after last night 2villager conversions and 2 villager escapes and deaths. I think I'm gonna give up breeding and stick to converting. I screwwed up by trying to expand their "quarter" at night and they escaped. Lol
Who knows maybe I will try again. I'm very wishy washy... lookin for potions and apples again lol

Take it from me, building with villagers in your face is awkward. They are very curious, and if you get a Golem, accidentally smacking one can get quite painful.
All you need for an enclosure is a steel door and a couple buttons, they can only open normal doors. No pressure plates on their side, although I have one and they've never used it, they don't even walk on that side of the compound?

Also I went in your house to enchant and brew. I "borrowed" a fermented spider eye and gave you 2 regular eyes. And I borrowed couple of blaze rod so I can have brew stand at home.
Well, that particular potion, other than someone else maybe needing, I don't really have a use for. I'm kinda set on villagers. But it's cool you're setting up brewing, it's not that hard and kinda fun.

Okay, so, after moving into the blacksmith's house in the village a while back, expanding the wall north once, then adding a second floor, THEN expanding the wall north and east a second time, I've decided it's time for a basement. Didn't have one as I've got this convienently located CHASM inside the compound I've been digging in and, well, I was walking out side and down a ladder to get to it, not through a hole in the floor, which is more typical in Minecraft.
BUT, heck, I don't have any room. So, basement it is.
BUT, there is this chasm under the house...
SO, I've burrowed down a bit, and over to the side, and have a good start on a basement WITH, of all things, an observation deck of sorts. Not two items commonly found co-existing I'd say.
BUT, it seems to be working. And I've some EMPTY chests, at least atm...
I've already expanded my storage system, went from 2 cobblestone chests to 11, and visibly almost no difference. Very low tech though. Everything I saw on you tube looks so space intensive I just went with a manual set up.
Yeah, I wiped out 80% of them last night easily.

I think u use niggets instead of ingots, which is cheaper, but someone needs to research it. IF so, I can float that.

The swamp to the east of me is a reliable source. Dirty's got some spawn by his place too. Heck, I have some down in my mines.
