Amazing how much shit can blow around, and then the next one comes through and you're like "surely it's all gone" and there's a whole bunch more....where does it come from?
The weather bureau must have been fielding a lot of complaints about giving out Hurricane to Tropical Storm downgrade notices and then we got clobbered in a wider area and for a much longer time.
Quote:
Hurricane Arthur transformed into a potent post-tropical storm over the maritime provinces on Saturday July 5 2014 causing significant tree damage and reports of flooding in many areas. The transformation was a result of the merging of the hurricane with a cold front - similar to hurricane Igor in Newfoundland in 2010 - but obviously farther west and not as severe.
This event as well as others like Igor highlight that when a hurricane becomes a post-tropical storm it is not always a 'downgrade'. In fact, when these storms undergo the transformation to post-tropical status, the area of high winds (and rain) expands significantly even though the highest winds and heaviest rainfall intensity in the storm may decrease a bit. As a result a wider area is affected and the storm's total energy actually increases in many cases. In the case of Arthur the highest winds at the end of its hurricane status were about 120 km/h and during the hours after we declared it post-tropical the highest winds were still around 110 km/h (which we saw in the form of gusts over land).
Vigorous hurricane transformations like this have strong winds not only to the right of where the storm centre (lowest pressure) tracks but also slightly to the left of the track as we saw during this storm and others such as Igor over Newfoundland in 2010. These left-of-track winds are usually from the north, northwest or west and are what we refer to in meteorology as a "sting jet". It was this so-called "sting jet" that caused the high winds at Fredericton, across parts of the western half of Nova Scotia and specifically the Annapolis Valley. We emphasized these winds in the forecast bulletins and during media interviews. This is not a new phenomenon - but is a term not often referred-to in traditional weather forecasts.
So you're ok? On high ground? All loose objects stowed away? keep power all the way through by some miracle?
Absolutely fine. No damage within sight of my house. No power problems except several clock resets etc.
If I was to guess, New Brunswickers are complaining they weren't warned about the wind. Around here, traditionally a Tropical Storm doesn't mean much threat inland. When a Hurricane gets downgraded to a Tropical Storm, people go meh. But we seem to be getting bigger and more frequent Hurricance related storms. It'll probably take another Hurricane Juan for people, including me, to take these storms more seriously.
Yada yada yada Global Warming-like impacts may be in the here and now instead of after we are dead and gone. Waterworld anyone? If I see the Statue of Liberty in one more disaster film, I think I will scream.
Glad you're ok. Sometimes a lessr storm by stalling over an area can cause crazy flooding issues. Biggest coastal issue can be the surge or push of water to crazy levels moving inland.
Sometimes apathy is more dangerous than all the rest.
A couple cans of Raid or other hornet killer at dark. Do not shine a flashlight on them. Cover the flashlight lens with something red. Safest for you is waste money for someone to do it for you.
Closed mechanic outfit or similar outfit like snowmobile suit or full rain wear, net hat, heavy gloves with ankles and wrists tied off.
Do it it in bright daylight while they are likely to swarm you. See if your courage holds up. It works and I've done it. Bust up the nest spray Raid or whatever and put the remain in a garbage bag.
Have fun while you work. Stomp the shit out of it. Play search for the Queen then squish her, violently. Play skewer the larva with a Timothy straw then offer them to your wife for kebobs.
Well, I have an insulated winter coverall outfit, but I'm concerned about my head honestly. Don't have the gear for that.
I've received numerous statements about doing it after dark as they are less active. These things are severely aggressive. Nest is football sized and no, not soccer.
Plan on stopping by Lowes this afternoon and buying I dunno, 4 cans of the high powered kill stream. I do have an incredible urge to take a baseball bat to it, but...
IF it weren't attached to my ride, I'd have torched it already.Home made flamethrowers ARE fun.
BTW, being from Florida I've seen all manner of bugs, spiders etc. and Tennessee has some of the nastiest crawling flying critters I've ever seen. These hornets are positively evil looking. makes wasps look like doddering old senior citizens. Worst thing is the aggressiveness combined with their speed.
I did consider a flaming arrow...and then a hasty duck into the back door...
Net/bug hat or no go. They're cheap and in the fishing section of many stores.
While the nest are 'mostly' inactive at night, you can't see the hornets easily and you might have to make a run for it. Of course, you will trip like a girl in a horror movie.
Rehearse your moves before doing it.
I scooped one off the underside of my deck at night. Crawled under, used a plaster spreading tool, scooped, bagged, sprayed and done. No muss no fuss. Exciting.
Won't canned sprays ruin the finish of your car?
I've used water hoses many times. Got to dress up for that.
Holy crap! I don't envy you OS. They need to die a horrible, painful, burning (be it chemical or fire ) death. Let us know the outcome. Inquiring minds want to know.
You may have stragglers for a few days. They will go away on their own. I've done the clip/scoop into a bag at night without issues too. The one hornet I wouldn't try it with is European Hornets(actually a true hornet). They are huge and the nests are usually too big for a trash bag. I had a couple hanging around a garage light at night and pulled out the hornet spray. I hit them and they came at me while I was still sprayin' and prayin. Daughter just had one investigating the perfume and old food in her car. She's like whoa, you can put him on a kabob. I think she'll start keeping food out of the car or at least roll the windows up. Put European Hornet Size in google images.
All this bug talk is making me itchy!! I had a nasty spider bite on my arm a few weeks ago. Got up in the middle of the night and put hand lotion on it, because it was itchy. Apparently that's the WRONG thing to do. It was red and swollen and scary looking the next morning. And hurt like a bitch. Put a huge dose on Benadryl cream on it, covered it with a bandage, and it got better overnight.
Trist me I am taking a good look at my kit to work out something that may work, too many insect size gaps in the armour and not easy to get out of so that is a no go. But I have fencing masks, there is my starting base :)

It's spelled tryst, not trist, and we'll have to get to know you better before that's even a consideration.

Long distance relationships never work out...
Stragglers seem to have moved on. Problem is there's so many damn flying critters out here I'm a tad paranoid. so's the puppy.
I could have borrowed a buddies bee keeper rig but I didn't want to wait another day.
Thanks, we're safe. I know better than to walk around in this kind of weather. There were some people hurt by flying debris and falling trees.
Life should be back to normal in a day or two.
Damn cold here now. 55F.
It got down to that last night...![laugh laugh](http://www.2old2play.com/sites/all/libraries/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/teeth_smile.png)
Glad you're safe, amigo. Hopefully there won't be too much shit to clean up when it's all said and done.

I guess we were stung by Arthur.

Just found some damage, A seat swing my wife and I made 25 years ago got kind of busted up under an apple tree. :(
Redesign...
Boo, hiss. That sucks Deep.
But at least it sounds like you made it out of there w/o too much chaos.
Got my camshafts back from Techtonics last night (sent them down to have them identified) along w/ a new ECU chip tuned to the new motor.
Oh my. The cams are big, and the new rev limit is up to 7500rpm. Damn I can't wait to get this thing back on the road.![laugh laugh](http://www.2old2play.com/sites/all/libraries/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/teeth_smile.png)
Conversely, my V-8 CJ-5 has a hornets nest attached to the back tailight, outside on the rear fender/tailgate area.
The damn things are fast and aggressive and they hurt (v). ( I Know)
One, this tells me I need to drive the Jeep more or get rid of it...
Two, what's the safest way for these buggars to die horribly and completely? ( Safest for me that is!)
Damn things are 25 feet from the back door. Maybe 30.

I've always just used a can of spray at night with no issues.
Bought me three cans...bring on the night!!!
Why am I picturing the whole Belushi Pearl Harbor thing?
Never mind! I'm ON A ROLL!
REMEMBER, rehearse.
All dead, I assume. Will check it out in the morning. But I'm pretty sure, and so is my shovel, that there's just bits n pieces and body parts...

Damn I hate bugs. *itch itch*
Snap, we have one under the eaves of the house...That rules out fire. Not close enough to a window to spray from inside...Need some careful planning!
You have the armour, so good to go. :)
