I think we'll be going to friends house this year, big spread of food usually. Stayed home last year, was a downer year and just didn't feel like it. This year's been much better overall.
Okay, it's freakin dead in here...no offense Rad...
I got new speakers for my old pick up truck! Pioneers, all the way around! Woohoo!!! Speakers been blown since, hmm well, since my boys go their licenses.
Coincidence, I think not...(they have their own rides now)
I had a top end Pioneer car stereo back in the late seventies. Sounded great with the Fosgate amp. Some low life stole the radio. Never had one as good as that since then.
Well, maybe next year I'll replace the original radio for something with bluetooth so I can listen to my phone, music and all on the road, tired of commercials...I think mine's still got cassette capability...luv my old truck.
I hate not have an AUX input in my wife's SUV. Her CD player is broke so we are just stuck with the crappy radio. In my car we at least have an AUX input, but it's CD player doesn't like to eject CD's sometimes so we don't risk it.
My mantra for 2016 via Buddha: "you only loose what you cling to". Took me several months to explore its depth; I can't wait to see what more I can learn.
Well thank goodness that's all over. Back to whatever passes as normality. Not to say I didn't enjoy some of it, but it just seems endless.
Still the new studio is just about finished, just waiting on my mastering headphones. Still working on some old stuff that was never finished thanks to the passing of my songwriting partner, wish to hell he was around to see the new stuff, he would have loved it. Waiting on our old bassist to lay down his bass lines. He is having some problems with the tech he is using and I am itching to get my hands on just one performance to see if the long term plan will work. Pain in the butt being in different countries.
One thing that has become apparent is while I bow my head to no man as a recording engineer, as I work further through the project I am finding my mixing and mastering skills are not where I need them to be. I have no excuse now, the kit I have is only limited by my skills, rather than the other way around.
The solution? Back to school so to speak. I am going to take an online mixing and mastering course being run by Steven Slate, it uses exactly the kit I have so it is just the ticket. Should fill in some of the blank spaces and improve the end result. So looking forward to that, I love learning those things. I am a long way behind the curve, been many years since I did any serious study, I used to teach this stuff and kinda rested on my laurels in recent years. Time I got back to it with a vengeance.
So that is the first few months of 2016 sorted. Between that and really digging into the new kit, it's going to be fun.
Happy New Years all and ringing it in with a thread title update no less. Parcells has a suspicion 2016 will be a mediocre to disappointing year for our beloved thread…with low expectations comes less disappointment.
Before I get into Parcells whirlwind 3 day semi-adventure I need to apologize to my neighbor DEEP. Back in the old days Parcells was quite the rebel, and thief as it were. If it was I who made a quick $80.00 on Parcells lucrative car stereo distribution center please accept my apologies and know that these days I strive to be better than low life.
Now onto the last few days…
New Years eve morning flew to Ottawa to surprise a friend who recently moved their and was hosting a New Years eve party; Worked with a mutual friend to pull off the surprise and the plan worked like a charm. My friend was duly surprised and we had a great time and most importantly I got through the evening without knowing the outcomes of either College football semi-final playoff games which set up day two of the trifecta.
New Years day, early afternoon after an hour flight delay hopped on a plane back to Halifax arrived home not knowing who won the football games which I obviously taped. Watched both games (first half of both games completely lived up to expectations) and also got to see the majority of the OSU/ND and Stanford/Iowa games via the magic of DVR technology (one of my clear favorites). Four hour total commute time not the best but some awesome College football made me so happy and will make day three tough to compete with which had some tough competition to begin with. But day three has potential up the ying-yang.
Today we have 4 Major Junior quarter final games on tap (game 1 recently ended, game 2 nearly complete with the outcome mostly determined at this point). Then we have Canada/Finland starting shortly with Finland being the favor on paper but that’s why they play the games out because paper stats don’t really matter in sports and its Canada in hockey for christ sakes our expectations are unusually high. Hopefully a great game with a Canadian victory which means we’d still have to beat Sweden and then either Russia or USA for Gold so it doesn’t get any easier. After the games Parcells and 3 friends (one from Toronto) will see The Force Awakens in Imax 3D followed by dinner and some drinking and card games (Hearts for sure) back at my place to end the 3 day tour. Tomorrow we relax before reality sets back in on Monday, serenity now.
And finally the stereo distribution story was made up. I did steal a few chocolate bars from the grocery store in my early years but that was the extent of Parcells thievery.
So some of you still listen to regular radio or CDs in your car?!?!? Two cars ago I got my first taste of satellite radio and I've never looked back. I can't stand regular radio...so many commercials!!
Hubs had sat radio the first month he had his new (to us) truck for free. He's too cheap to pay for it (for himself), so he's rediscovered a love of CDs since his sat free trial is over and regular radio is balls.
Did a lot of driving across the state and back for Christmas Eve and day, so as usual, starting my new year off in a minor flare up and having lost weight. One of these years I'm gonna tell everyone to eff off and declare a non-traveling non-visiting non-entertaining Christmas. I'd like just one year where we don't drive anywhere either day AND no one comes here. *sigh*
Yeah still listen to CD's or the iPod. Radio tends to be tuned to Newstalk an Irish current affairs station, or BBC radio 4. Though if it does not stop raining here, the car will have to be traded in for a boat.
For some reason in the car, I get bored with anything I have control over? iPod, cd...even on shuffle I know what's on the iPod so I get bored. Sat radio throws surprises my way.
Why ever would you be someone else?
Unless you could be Bruce Campbell...
With that chainsaw for a hand...
Don't forget the boomstick baby!
Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays , however you get your happy on, I wish everyone the best!
Yessir!

My hearing aids are the new replacement.

How about people only have power over you IF you let them...
Another New Years's Eve and no hangover. Too old to party.
I had one....and then started winning races. I think the field was hammered.
Had pizza, watched football, fell asleep. Happy New Year all.
Played some Xbox with daughter yesterday, then hit the hay early. That's how I like to roll. Happy bright shiny New Year, all!
