Normally I'd say GTA's effect on any Halo title was limited to 2-4 weeks. Considering the huge world in V, I'm thinking that unless it turns into boring porridge the affective window could be larger.
Well, I actually played some Halo yesterday afternoon. First time really playing since the Champions map pack came out, so it's been roughly a month.
I was surprised at how hard the population has been hit. In round numbers, around 800 in Infinity Slayer, 1800 in Richochet and 8500 in Big Team.
I'm sure GTA V has made an impact, as I do see people that I've normally played Halo with are playing GTA V. However, these are scary low considering COD Ghosts and BF4 and new console launches are right around the corner.
Personally, I don't plan on getting Ghosts or BF4, so I'll proably still be playing Halo occasionally for my FPS needs, but who will be left playing after Titanfall hits in the Spring?
Oh and this other little game called Destiny is coming too in 2014.
I would think that after the first of the year, we'll start hearing more about Halo on XB1 - whether that be Halo 5 or something different. However, 343 is going to have to throw us a bone to keep us interested. Otherwise, Halo may go the way of being a "niche market" game - if it's not there already.
Disclaimer: Not trying to be negative, just trying to have a real conversation.
Sounds acceptably pragmatic to me. Halo 4 was going to have trouble whether it was a perfect game or not. I know it has some problems and it's the wide scope of problems that have already hit it hard. Forge, Films, film rendering, Gametypes hit all the Halo communities hard. I plan to get TITANFALL and Destiny but also the next Halo. I expect the Over 50 group will continue playing Halo as it does now but the Thursday night Halo crowd will be a question mark in Q1 2014. There is even the question of, which system people are buying these games for?
So why then was Vix so happy to join our customs on Friday...
Hypocrisy correctly identified.
Yeah, I don't think I can bitch about not liking customs, because I really do like the custom games that you run. You do a lot of regular style games, not goofy stuff.
When I talk about not liking customs, what I really mean is all the odd game types that are so offbeat they aren't even fun. When you are the party leader, I don't worry about this. Because your games are good. But when others are running customs, we end up with...
Darth's Mind, Racing Games, Games where you balance on dice in a box and randomly die, and Hogmania games that last for 3 hours. When I say "I don't like custom games", those are what I mean. But I do like other custom games, so I guess I can't say that anymore :)
I agree crazy customs have a place as long as its limited.
Agreed. 10-15 minutes games like MM and not too far off default gametypes. Now that RACE actually works, I'm okay with one game in ten. I would pick default Slayer, CTF, and Assault (wish it existed) mostly but people crave a little change.
Some people really like Halo racing. You do, right? I think I even read on here that you make custom racetracks.
Just not my cup of tea, that's all. I play Halo to shoot stuff, not race. Halo Racing to me feels like Mario Kart, minus the mushrooms and turtle shells that make Mario Kart fun.

I'm not getting any new games til I get a new console which won't be til Titanfall at the earliest and maybe not til Destiny. Mainly because I know I will continue to play Halo and with the new systems not being backwards compatible I'd rather just wait til there's a game worth getting.
As far as customs goes I like racing games, but I am like Vix I don't like the goofy stuff and I think 10-12 mins should be the max for games.

I am of the same opinion too on the new consoles. I don't feel the need to be there on launch when I don't see any game I really want to play. Oh and I probably don't need to be dropping that kind of cash...lol
Hi Deep - I'm talking to the 2old2playHalo folks who still post here. Including Jim, who made this thread. Its on-topic. Any particular reason you'd like me to delete it? I can, if it is somehow inappropriate. Thanks.

It was sounding kind of personal and maybe could lead to bad vibes from other former clannies. Yes, it's on topic and I don't moderate anyway. It's just that I've seen these same kind of posts blow up real quick and maybe you wouldn't want that.
That would be nice. But no option to edit on that post. The most recent one, yes. But older ones? No.
Dang. Well, hopefully our friendly neighborhood moderator will come around and delete my post before it generated a firestorm of hate mail. Thanks.
I could have helped a few weeks ago but my desire to simply delete anything I didn't like was weighing too much on me. Moderating a forum whose subject you care about is rather stressful. lol
@ Vix check your pms (it's not hate mail I promise lol) and I think once a post is quoted, you can't delete or change it. Deep only quoted the first bit, but I think it's still "trapped"
@ Deep I don't think I could be a mod. I'd delete everything people say I don't like lol!

Halo Racing is competitive, not goofy.

He also makes awesome non-race maps ;)

I KIT!
@ Vix - take shrooms, then race... funner than Mario Kart. - and everyone deserves their own opinion. I understand we all like different stuff.
I Really enjoyed last Fridays games with everyone too.
Shrooms! LOL
The only shrooms I've ever had are on pizza. Not exactly a mind-bending experience...
Depends on the pizza!
Santa? Santa? Satan? Jesus Christ they're the same guy!!!
Someone hasn't seen Detroit Rock City I take it...

Deep - Good point, and thank you.
I "Flagged it for Abuse". Seems it was the best I could do.
If a moderator is reading, please delete that if you would. I've created enough drama already. Thank you!
I got you. See? I'm not a total asshole.
