Wait, they're not going to bury all those unsold Xbones next to all those ET-cartridges in the Nevada-desert?
Nah, they'll discount them, slap on a decal of an apple with a piece missing and yell "iTVs for sale!" on a street corner and sell'em out of a white van. []Tongue-in-cheek[/]
I think you guys are missing the real benefit of going digital over physical: No more standing in line at Gamestop for a midnight release with a bunch of creepy bastards who have clearly spent more money on Red Bull than deodorant.

You're here for Assassins Creed IV too? I've been here for two days waiting to get my hands on Ezio again, damn he's sexy!

You're right, though I never got a bud to come along on a midnight release, though they usually stand in-line to tell me I should grow up and take up a real hobby. ^^
I did a midnight release once. The people in line at that release would make every subject of People of Walmart blush. Never again - I went with Amazon release day shipping for the most part the last couple of years, but having the game ready to play first thing in the morning because it downloaded overnight would be nice.
I would have been sweet for SimCity if EA's shitty servers would have worked.
In my old neighborhood, midnight releases were sweet. My friends and I would drink at the pizza place next to Game Stop for a few hours, then go to Game Stop to get our receipts finalized and numbered. We were always in the top ten. I was seventh for Halo 4. We'd either go home or walk around a bit until a few minutes before midnight and get back in line, pick up our games, walk home, and be online by 12:15.
Mid-night launches at the local EBGames/Gamestop were boring and uneventful and always near freezing. I'd get home around 1am, finish loading the game by 1:30 and play for 30 minutes before needing to crash. The last time I tried it was for Halo 4. I went down at 12:30 and the line up was at least another 30 minutes wait so I went home for a good sleep. I did have a little bit of fun at one launch with my son and his friends when they were all about 19. I was alone amongst children all the other times. Never again. Presses button, goes to bed. Happiness.
doubt i'll be doing midnight release for games anymore. Day one digital will spoil me. And if I really need a disc for a game, to lend or resell, then I'll probably just go Amazon since it won't be something I'm dying to own.
There's a simple solution to all of the "Midnight release" issues. Be a little patient and wait till the next day to pick up your game/consoles. Midnight releases aren't intended for old crotchety fuckers like us. They are for the college kids to play shitty acoustic guitar in their parents pop-up tents while eating terrible food, swilling Mountain Dew and waxing philosophical about their neck beards and the next Dr. Who.
Or, you can preorder from the store you're standing out front of, and have it delivered to your door on the day of the launch. No need to brave the great unwashed just to get your favorite electronic stimulant. If you have it delivered, not only do you not have to deal with the above problems, but you also avoid the possibility of not getting your game/console due to limited quantities.

that's not a solution. that's telling us we shouldn't want to do it...
This won't affect their decision to use an external HD of any size for game installs and downloads will it? If they go back on that I won't buy any retail games digitally.
But it's so much fun, I actually had fun when Terminal Reality brought the Ecto 1 and packs to the release of Ghostbusters.
How long ago was that and how old were you/are you now?
4-5 years ago and old enough to not find the Red Bulls they give out at those things to do nothing more than wish I had called in to work sick the next day... lol

I was at "the line for the 9AM release" of the Wii. Got in line at 11PM, stood in partial rain, etc, for 10 hours. Yeah....... not again.

I would hope not, but I hesitate to say, nothings in stone atm? The great and mighty Microflaccid won't punish us will they?
Seriously, at this point in the ill played game, they better have freaking Kate Upton out hand delivering the damn things personally...

this popped up in Trending Topics. It hadn't been posted in since June. I think the board is broken.
It's been doing this for awhile for me. Shrug.
Maybe it is the season?
I think part of the algorithm includes people simply viewing it? There were threads a few months back that did the same thing.
