Now XBoxSupport on Twitter is saying they're working on a solution to have older headsets work with the XB1. Support and PR are still on two completely different pages:
@Futterish We are working on ways to connect wired headsets through a headset adapter device. More details available at a later time. ^JX
I swear, none of these branches at MS are communicating with each other, because PR is saying just the opposite.
It honestly shocks me that their PR is this bad, this long, and this (in) consistently.
"Honestly"? You're shocked? We are still talking about people here. Whether they work for the world's largest company or not they're still the same basic configuration of parts responsible for the Holocaust and the Department of Motor Vehicles. Good decisions don't come naturally to us- chaos and fuckuppery do.

I'm surprised with all the comments about an "open mic" and background noise, nobody in the thread so far actually looked into the reality of the new Kinect.
Here's a video that demonstrates a part with massive noise, and then how Kinect only hears the players voice commands, among other tech demonstration bits.
I'm just glad the new standard mics will supposedly have such high quality audio afforded to them by the high speed data port. No need to spend hundreds on a mess of wires third party mic. It is funny that people complain they can't choose to buy Kinect and they want choice, but when they aren't forced to have the standard headset they bitch about that then.
"Kinect Real Voice technology focuses on the sounds that matter, thanks to an all-new multi-microphone array. Advanced noise isolation lets Kinect know who to listen to, even in a crowded room"

Two things.
Knowing who to listen to means the kinect obeys the correct sounds, that does not translate into noise canceling for everyone else online.
And the bitching is probably intensified because no one can use their existing hardware at release (most likely) AND there's nothing in the box until they are able to exercise their choice later on. Again, you state it in a way that favors your point of view, not necessarily in a way that reflects the total reality of the situation. If everyones existing headsets worked OR if there was at minimum a cheap set in the box, 98% of the bitching would be non-existent. It's not about choice, its remarkably again looking like lack of choice.
I'm surprised with all the comments about an "open mic" and background noise, nobody in the thread so far actually looked into the reality of the new Kinect.
I'm sure it'll be decent. Just think about how your Cisco speakerphone at work works (if you use one). Or your phone's speakerphone. And that is pretty old tech.
The new kit headset is still a mono headset. So while the connection itself is a better brand of wireless connection...there is no real guarantee that it will work better then the old kit mic. As long as it works as well as the 360 one there shouldn't be any issues using it for voice. As for the fancy headsets...as noted by others sometimes they are needed just so they don't wake up the family after bedtime.
I haven't bought a console yet that allowed me to use my old peripherals. Are people really upset about the radical concept of planned obsolescence? The driving force of the American econonomy since World War II?
can we trash this thread and start over? it's broken. Quotes started to not work and now the entire site started being wide about halfway through the page.
At any rate, even if the lobby isn't inconvienenced by engine noise broadcast across the game, you will still have to speak way louder to be heard, which provokes those who would sleep whilst I race, not to mention the three others in the room on PC's playing league being broadcast likely as well to the lobby, although with my TB's that happens already.
And it's not crying about planned obsolescence. If there were options available AT release (a huge IF atm) or an included cheapo set in the box, obsolescence wouldn't be an issue.
But, obsolescence is going to occur, so no, can't use what I have, is there something in the box to hold me over, umm no, hmm, so I have to buy a cheapo set (@ $29.00 = overpriced, and I base this on $30.00 for ONE ear piece) until everyone catches up and there ARE options? ...oboy...
Speaking of useless glow in the dark things, now that Sony cut the PS4 Eye, the glowstrip on the PS4 controller is now annoying and useless, instead of just annoying.

Your wifes not picky, she married you, right?
No, she married me for my charming personality and my enormous wealth. Oh wait, WTF was she thinking? She got totally screwed on that deal.
BTW, Dixon was not referring to you. It was towards the Console Forum Warriors. They need to chill some.

When did Sony announce they cut the PS4 Eye/Move/Whatever? I hadn't heard that.

They cut it from being included in the console box itself. They did this in order to compete with Microsoft on price console to console, but kept the price cut secret until E3.
They are going to sell it separate for $60 now instead of including it, which likely dooms it to becoming yet another Sony peripheral they don't support.
There won't be software unless people buy it, and people won't buy it with no software. Plus, why buy that compared to even the first Kinect?
So for now, there's a glowstrip on the PS4 controller that serves to only annoy people playing at night unless they spend $60 so they can switch seats with someone on the couch more effectively.....lol.

Good then I won't have to buy shit I don't want. If a dev makes good use of it then it can be picked up later. It's a win win. Don't come at me that Kinect is boxed in so it's a guarantee that it will be usefull in the least. It's just not.
Oh lawdy lawdy, an led that's not even pointed at the user is so distracting. I find your posts more useless and annoying than any led. Ever. lol
Don't come at me that Kinect is boxed in so it's a guarantee that it will be usefull in the least. It's just not.
Agreed that has comments were one-sided. However, there was truth there. No one's going to support the Eye/Move on the PS4. There was crappy sales of it on even the PS3, which is why they didn't have many games for it and why they didn't even mention it at E3. Plus MS including it and people freaking out about that solidified them taking a different route with their messaging, and ultimately their game plan.
No one is going to make Move/Eye stuff because it's a niche product. With Kinect, it must be connected and everyone must have one. So they can make game functions knowing they will be used uniquely with the One, and that any player will get the oppportunity to use them. They don't have to code in an extra layer of "well if they don't have a Kinect, then it changes to work like this." It just works the same for everyone, and it's implemented seamlessly.

It's a niche product (Kinect/move/whatever Ninty calls there stuff) anyway unless they are forcing essential use of it. Meaning you MUST provide some function that can't be on a controller. I don't know about you but I'm not taking off my big boy pants and sitting my fat ass on the couch to be forced to wave/talk/get up to play a game.
There was some usefull software for move. My kids played it. Hell, I used it for 4am.

Did you mean the author of the article or Autarch's opinion? It was in the article and I'm fairly sure I've read other industry news reports suggesting the same thing. It's completely logical. As a body movement related sensor, XB1's Kinect will now pretty much have a monopoly on those types of games. People (I.E. hard core FPS) can laugh all they want but those types of games games are being widely used and will continue to gain strength.
Quote:
But in its efforts to undercut the Xbox One, Sony has damned the accessory to a future of fragmented consumer adoption and inconsistent software support. The decision has also rendered a major design element of the DualShock 4 controller — the built-in LED Move tracker — largely useless.
Sony has pretty much fucked themselves out of that market.

With low sales of the hardware peripheral, devs won't be encouraged to make software because this will limit their own sales.
You say it can be picked up later if devs make good use of it, but this is rather naive because the motivation for devs to make good use of it relies on people NOT picking it up later, but already owning it.
Its nice that its optional for people who get offended by peripherals, but it does mean that it won't be as widely adopted as an included Kinect with Xbox One.
Anyways, the LED thing might not be a big deal, just like people with lit up cell phone screens in a movie aren't much of a distraction so people don't care when others do that, right?
The low support and sales for PS4 Eye is pretty easy/logical to figure out, but if my pointing this out has offended you then sorry bout ya, Biz!

Once I decide to purchase the XB1 it will be time to purchase a new headset anyway, so this news doesn't really bother me.
