In Memory of Chris Coffland

Chris Coffland was killed by an IED last week in Afghanistan while serving our country. He is the first person I've known to die in either Iraq and Afghanistan. I have not seen him since I graduated in 1986, and I hadn't kept up with where he was or what he was doing, although someone told me not long ago that he had decided to join the Army, at age 41. I know lots of people from the State Department who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and there have been other distant acquaintances there in the military. They all survived. Chris didn't.

I'm In

I've gotten the update that let's me into to the preview of the Xbox Live Update.  My first reaction is that it's more of a novelty than something I'd use regularly, especially without the the Xbox messenger for the controller.  It just takes too long to type in tweets or status updates without it but honestly, I haven't spent enough time with it to make a solid judgement.

COD Modern Warfare 2: $20 Credit at Amazon

I ordered Rock Band 2 from Amazon and, as if I needed an excuse to pre-order COD: Modern Warfare 2, this popped up:

The Bass Conspiracy

I'm playing my way through a bunch of games I bought last year and put on the shelf.  I finished The Bourne Conspiracy this afternoon.  It's glitchy and repetitive, but entertaining enough for the $15 I paid for it.

Now I know that Matt Damon turned it down and they couldn't use his likeness. But the game's Jason Bourne kept reminding me of former N'Sync boy toy Lance Bass.  Matt Damon might have pulled the role off in the movies, but Lance Bass kickin' ass as a super assassin just doesn't do it for me.

The Republic Will Not Fall

The White House has released the text of the President's speech to school children tomorrow. Take the time to read it, decide for yourself whether your child should hear it, but for what it's worth, I would want my children to listen and would hope that they were inspired by what the President says. I think the Republic and our children will survive, and may be even better for it. In fact, I can't believe anyone would find this speech objectionable, if they read it, regardless of their political beliefs. (Well, maybe someone will object to his pejorative reference to Xbox.)
