The Jokes on Us

Maybe, if you think about it, the problems with the Xbox 360 and the worse problems with the repair center are Robbie Bach or J Allard's or Bill Gates himself's idea of joke. Build a faulty system and then offer to repair it using a repair process that is intended to torture the paying customer through constant delays and screw ups. At least that's how I'm coming to see this whole process because I can't come up with any other rational explanation.

3 Red Lights at the End of the Tunnel

I called Microsoft on Wednesday after waiting the 48 hours they suggested, and lo and behold, an xbox is on its way to my house. There's no telling whether its mine or a refurb, or, I could only be so lucky, a new one. Regardless, I hope it lasts for a while and that I'm done with the Red Ring of Death. Coincidentally, Official Xbox Mag's latest issue twice makes reference to strong rumors that Microsoft will be cutting prices for Christmas next year, and that it's working on another iteration that is supposed to correct all the design problems of the previous versions.

I Should Have Known That It Would Get F'd Up

Somebody, somehow has screwed up the repair of my 360. When I called a week ago, I was assured that it had been fixed and would be on its way back to me. (See lavish praise in post below.)

Score One for Microsoft

I called Microsoft on Monday to find out the status of my RROD-afflicted 360. I've had my quibbles with Microsoft and some of its business practices, but in this case, I can say so far I'm being treated right. When my 360 failed, like so many others, it was beyond the initial one-year warranty, but its under the new extended warranty period so MS is fixing it for free, as ethically, they should. I can't argue with that, thus far. They had a poor design, they've acknowledged it, and they are trying to make it right.

Long Time Gone

It's been six months since my last blog post. Since then, I've finished my assignment in Russia, and we're back in the U.S. for a year while I study Farsi (Persian) for my next assignment in Dubai starting next summer.
