Love and the mail-order bride

So for those of you single people out there (or you unscupulous married types), I am assuming most of you have forayed into the fabulous world of online dating.  I first messed with it about 10 years ago and have had some success, especially in my thinner days.  After my last engagement went bellyup in 2002 it was years before I could think about dating again cause I was all messed up.  I still fear women with every fiber of my being (which is many, many fibers these days) but I figured awhile back I'd throw a profile out there and see how it goes.

Jamalamadingdong

Back in late August I got a hit on my bandmix.com ad (where I was advertising myself as a noob bassist for hire) from a drummer who had a guitar player buddy.  It was reasonably local so I followed up with him and we arranged to meet on a Friday night.  I had emailed him asking what songs they played so they could give me something to be ready with when we got together, and I never really got a response on that.  Finally, the day before we were going to hook up, I got a response saying they really didn't do covers...it was mainly original stuff.

RRoD part 6

Well it finally happened.  After almost 2 years, the replacement unit I received in October 2006 (which was my 5th unit) finally went bellyup.

Another blast from the past

Yeah, those pics from the Maiden concert will get posted eventually. Meantime, we were talking about the Blackhawks at work today (been a LONG time since they were a topic) and the subject of the 1991 All Star Game here at the old Chicago Stadium came up. Unfortunately I couldn't be there, but I had vivid recollections of the crowd going berserk during the national anthem. Its a tradition at 'Hawks games to be loud during the anthem anyway, but this was during the original Operation Desert Storm so it was particularly inspiring.

Bragging Time

My son went out for football this year.  He's beginning his freshman year (and yeah, makes you feel old) so for the first time ever, he tried out for a football team.  Before official practices started though, they had the "voluntary" pre-season workout camp.  Yeah, voluntary as in "don't even bother if you don't come to these".  So I gave up 2 of my weeks of summer vacation (and several weekends of visitation) so he could go to those, and ultimately practice in the 2-a-days that followed.

This weekend at Guitar Center

They have a massive sale going on through the end of Monday.  My Schechter was giving me problems again, and again it was the neck.  This was the second time and it was bowing up again, so I was through with Schecter.  It seemed like they used broken pallets for the neck wood.  So I talked to a manager there and he agreed it sucked that I had all these problems so he let me return the Schecter for something else.  I wound up spending a little more money out of pocket, but since I'm moving up the instrument food chain I don't mind.

So without further ado, I give you my new baby:

The good old days

Those pics from the Maiden concert are still coming, but I've been too tied up to host and post.  Meantime, in honor of the debacle that will be the 2008 Chicago Bears football season, here is a blast from the past.  For those of you who love defense, I give you highlights of the greatest team to ever take the field in a season:
