Oooo, just got a teammate for a 2.4 hour Daytona (road course) race coming up in August. He's even one of the more decorated endurance racers in the league (efnet). I'm more than honored that I was one of the very few (probably 2) Sportsman class drivers he was looking to team up with (and the only one still not taken). The race is designed to have Pro/Sportsman teams. And before you ask, yes it's a sim-race. I can't afford to drive Porsche Fabcar prototypes!
Actually it's kinda funny, 3 of the 4 GBR drivers (all 4 of us are originally from 2O4F) have already been snapped up by Pro class drivers for the endurance race...passing over a lot of drivers that have been running Sportsman class at Efnet far longer than we have been there.
Been a good day so far. Guess this means I'm actually going to have to practice a bit for this one, more than my usual 15 prior to the race.
What the shit. You wheel jockeys have your own forum already. There's no need to try and colonize another. GTFO.
Um...Tis a thread not a forum, and the subject is whatever the hell we are talking about. Populated mostly by racers the subject of racing tends to crop up. There are no
Congrats Chris.
Of course there are rules. This ain't 'Nam. Forum colonizers won't be happy until everyone has a wheel stuck to their hands.
Dude if there were rules the first thing to go would be that sig...Quite the offensive little number. Second after examining the "Rules" there is nothing I can see that denies racers, talking now and again about racing in a thread started by a racer...If you can find one I would be happy to conform. The system here is, any subject that tickles the posting fingers of the folk that post here gets time spent, any that doesn't...doesn't. Simples. As for putting a wheel in every hand...I think not, we have standards you know

Nah, I'm mostly being tongue-in-cheek with all the talk about the racers colonizing other fora. At least there's activity in the place. That's better than having this place dead, in any case. No, you guys are good people.
How much more does a wheel improve your driving experience in these games?

You don't have to stay if you don't like it here, no one invited you so you can piss off anytime you want. Bloody shooter types.
Now back to driving my little car around and around and around.....ok when I say it like that it doesn't sound like much fun.
So, to be clear, you got picked last? No, wait, you were third! Hard to skim through your post and stay accurate...you should really work on that!
Congrats!
Got to keep ya guessing. What fun would it be if it was spelled out in black and white?
I was a little late to the party. I missed the whole post (which went up around the 10th) for driver pairings. Put up a post yesterday morning that I was looking for a Pro to pair with for the race, and within half hour I had 2 requests, and one was him saying he was hoping I was going to run, because there wasn't many others he was overly enthusiastic about sharing a car with.
Going to be a hoot. Now to figure out how the driver change feature works. Never done that before!
All this talk of racing makes me curious...then again the last racing game I played was Top Gear on the snes so I'm probably better off staying away. :P
Lots of options. Everything from full arcade to full on simulation (and all kinds in between). If you ever have any questions, there are several of us here that can point you in the right direction.
Tboning a door isn't rubbing, it's diving low, hitting a curb/grass and plowing someone off their line AND off the track alot of the time...some say this is the actual church manuever...

Now this sounds interesting, Maybe I could get this game and just be an enforcer type racer....kinda like in Hockey. Or is that role already taken?
Ah T-Boning, the tool of the Timmy and the frustrated...Church does it on his roof, I do it to Church because his wails of indignation are just so much fun.
What I'm saying is a wheel, of itself might make you a faster driver, it might not.
The fastest drivers in the game use both, as in, some use a controller, some use a wheel. There isn't a clear cut dominant choice being used by the fastest of the fastest. Most likely it's the drivers skill, not the equipment that contributes most to speed on the track.
It can depend on so many variables, but safe to say there are very fast drivers using both. Having a full race cockpit with high end wheel, pedals, gearshift and triple screens is without doubt the most immersive experience, but that does not equal faster, I have the full monty, Church sits on a cushion with a controller and a small TV and it's a good day for me if I beat him on track..
The're are those that argue the controller gives you and advantage, I would not be one of them, but the shorter throw on the joystick and buttons could be said to give you a faster response, though a wheel gives you far more subtle input. The only thing that will guarantee to make you faster is track time, nothing, no money, no kit, will compensate for lack of seat time.
Dixon I was just pulling your chain, though I do find the sig oversteps a personal line to be honest, I had to close my laptop sharpish the other day when a friend walked in with her kids.

Meanwhile...the fecking fire is lit again, it's bloody cold...well chilly anyway and the damp air just gets into your bones. Irish summers just don't live up to the name. I wish I could work out a way to move to warmer climes. I nearly did, I had a chance to manage a shop in Malta, I have loads of friends there and it would have been perfect, had a house lined up worked out the finances everything was in place, but the bank crises hit and that put an end to that plan...ah well another bucket of coal on the fire and a nice bit of Lamb for dinner will warm me up.

So you aren't the guy on the right with the clip board/map in the car?
Oh wait, that's Rally. You aren't going to wear a red shirt are you? Please don't wear a red shirt! Don't wanna lose you!

I spend a day busy at work and people say I push people off?
Rubbing is racing
You must race yourself a lot then.
Nah, have a look at some BTCC, rubbing and leaning abound...and of course they turn left and right

It's not Roller Derby...
Shhhhhhhhhhh dont say Roller Derby to loud, you might attract unwanted attention from the Wambot himself.
He's been AWOL so long I'd forgotten about him?
I think we already decided some of you weren't wheelworthy...
If you want realism, it's great.
if you JUST want speed, it's iffy...the quickest use both a controller and a wheel, depends on the driver, not the equipment.
How does one give you more speed?

Fair enough.
Nice one Dixon, and the mixture of a gorrilla and a flying lawnmower, whats not to like

had rain here all week, but it's been relatively warm if not hot at times...
14 hours later and I get home from work.
This week has been real shitty. Glad it is now over!
Time to drink
