I grew up listening to country, and then I got to listen to rock, and now my wife ( 12 years younger) has me occasionally listening to pop. Throw in some classical in highschool and my listenings somewhat diverse.
The stuff I like best is music that pulls from more than one genre and yet the mixtures not real noticeable, seemless.
That is very much what I do, not in any contrived way, but I of course am influenced by all the music I listen to. That is a fairly broad spectrum, from soul and funk through to metal and prog-rock via singer songwriters like Carly Simon and Dean Friedman and all points north and south. These all get blended with the fact I have never had formal training on any of the instruments I play (most the usual suspects) and what comes out the other end is a blend of styles. I do not write in one genera but each song is a process of finding where it lives, is it funky or rocky, do I feel a latin groove. I am working on some Irish music at the moment and suddenly on one track while listening to a rough mix thought "Samba" I have played in a Samba band so the beats and rhythms are well ingrained and I spotted this underlying slightly twisted Batucada beat...Very tempted to chase it down and see where it leads.

Metal is the only thing that made sense in that whole rambling diatribe and is likely the result of your tequila habit: it makes anything sound good. I would suggest a Red Bull and some Judas Priest to get you thinking straight again. Either Defenders of the Faith or Screaming for Vengeance. Listen to the whole thing...I'll know if you're lying.
I'm here I'm here! You're probably all gone for the day though....
I was staining furniture, then napping (somebody guessed that), then I got sucked into a documentary, then hubby was home and I had to cook dinner and crap like that. Dunno if I'll be on tomorrow...hubby's off work.
How does one drive 5 kmh? That is the question that confuses me this morning as it’s the new speed limit in my parking garage.
I googled it and apparently that is exactly the average walking speed. I have an analog speedometer with about 2 mm of space between 0 & 10 kmh and I’m pretty sure if I just touch my gas pedal I’m instantly doing 10+ kmh so something doesn’t work here. If caught apparently they can kick me out of the building so I think I need to explain to him that if they stick to their guns they wont have any tenants left.
The reason for it is sound (protect the numerous kids playing) but this 5 kmh limit is absurd.
Warning: The first person to suggest I just drive like I do in Forza will experience the wrath of Parcells like these forums have never witnessed before!
Judas Priest? Isn't that the band where the lead looks like a gay biker in leather? A little like Freddy Mercury?
No, he is a gay biker in leather. The backstage experience at a Priest show is heavy on a whole different level...you'll probably want some tequila afterwards for reasons mentioned in a previous post. Mercury has an overbite and Halford forces you at gunpoint to eat him alive...that's how you tell them apart.
I've got JP in the collection, but as a musician I just can't fail to listen to all kinds of stuff, and play and write a variety as well, all rock makes jack a dull boy. Open your mind and ears, there is more to life than one kind of music.
Knight, I'm at the backroads of Sweden atm with almost zero reception, but I'd love to talk further about your passion for music and songwriting in general as we seem to share that passion. I worked for 10 y as a songwriter/producer but put it to rest when it was time for kids. Songwriting runs through my veins though it seems because that's one thing in life I can't stop doing. If you wanna share and do some feedbacking I'm up for it. Let me know and I'll get back to you when I get closer to civilization agan....
Cheers,
Enemy
Speaking of music, why the FUCK does pandora think I'm a hipster or a teenaged emo girl? Fucking fuck. I had to stop staining, take my gloves off, and click the "EW" button five times today. Yesterday it was all good. Today it was balls. Fucking pandora.
Tried fixing my dryer yesterday (I celebrate Independence Day well), and found the problem wasn't the heating element. Now to just wait for the other two parts to arrive so I can tear the damn thing apart again.
I need a beer, and a session of virtually shooting stuff.
LOL That is a first ThyEnemy, and I love the comparison...Some folk drop by and just don't get it, others do and become regular drop ins. Those that stay I tend to find are our more relaxed members, apart from Jones of course...Far too much energy.
Pro songwriter huh? Heh I am a complete amature and as prolific as...a very non prolific thing indeed. I have a mound of half done ideas, eight bar riffs, files that when I load them up and hit play I have no idea what I was thinking. I tend to get to the point of a half finished sketch, hit the limit of my instrumental skills and then forget it. It's a hobby that I have never stopped playing with, once I thought I was going to be a rock star, then found that while that was never going to happen, I had lucked into something that I just couldn't stop trying to do.
Former pro yes. Had a great partner in crime who was able to disect the good ideas from the bad and make a song out of it. Now a happy amateur just like yourself with a zillion of unfinished ideas that I continuously work on 'til I eventually grow tired of them and move on to the next. Unfortunately that happens on a regular basis. I've come to learn maybe I love the process of writing more than to actually come up with a finished product. Hehe, and I constantly fool myself thinking this time I will finish it. Living in denial isn't all that bad I guess. ;-)

Ah yes, my old mate was much the same, great lyricist and took my ramblings and added focus. Funny thing is I have worked with other folk over the years, taken their rough ideas and turned them into finished songs...Can I do that with my own? Can I feck.
I think working entirely on your own means wearing too many hats, songwriter, performer, engineer, producer, studio tech and tea maker...It's a very rare day indeed that all those roles come together. Normally they actually seem to interfere with each other. But hey, there are far worse ways of spending your time :)
Did I read that right? Somebody just described Knight's little thread as brilliant. I would suggest that ThyEnemy read a few pages before giving Knight any accolades, as they are almost assuredly undeserved. Instead, we should pool our resources and devise a contraption that is able to punch Knight in the face while simultaneously kicking him in the seat of the pants. I'll kick in a Jackson...who's with me?

Hey I take no credit other than coming up with the idea of renaming the thread every day or so, sometimes that tweaks someone's curiosity and we have another contributor.
As for a contraption to beat me up...Well Jones that is very mean spirited of you.
In other news I just received a message from a good friend from New Mexico, She is here for a week or two and has brought Mrs Knight and I tickets to see Bruce Springsteen at the O2 Cork, She is also covering all expenses, Hotel, meals etc. It's good to be friends with the wife of a very successful writer. I met her years ago at an event we were both at, and she had been deserted by the folk that took her. I had no idea who she was, just a Yank on holiday having a rough ride. So took her under my wing, and saw she had a good time. From that grew a friendship that has seen us to the states for an amazing road trip and many other adventures. Not seen her in a couple of years so it will be quite a session.

Does that mean that you're unwilling to contribute?

Parcells needs to have a talk with my landlord.

Excellent, I sugest you drive like you do in Forza...

Bravo Knight!

Also how f'in hard is it to put a screen protector on a phone!!!!

*eagerly waves back while also jumping* Zooombieee!!!! ;-)
And I must admit, a thread about nothing. Brilliant.
It's like the Seinfeld of 2old2play.
Sorry, if that comparison's been used before, I didn't re-read the whole thread, guilty on that one.

Crap. The dryer parts came in...that means I'm working on the dryer this weekend instead of fishing.
Ah it's all good brownie points, and the fish will still be there another weekend.
