I guarantee the overwhelming majority is probably ignorant of this whole discussion and waiting until Back Friday to pull out their credit cards...
As for the industry going full digital AND you watching all the product die on the shelves, I think you're confused. All digital's really gonna reduce shelf space...
All said, license to use, either medium, for years now...
I think you're in love with a revolution no ones attending...
I've said my piece and will continue to do so when the topic concerns me. Sorry if it upsets you, but you should expect to run into differing views of thought from time to time.

It's not the views. It's you going into and Xbone thread and stirring a shitpot... just makes ya look like fucking kid picking a fight.
Until about a year ago I was opposed to all digital as well, but now I agree with most of the posters it is inevitable and to be honest I'm in favour. Azure you talk about buying physical media still. Right now where I live you cannot buy CDs anymore. Every single store that sold them has closed down. The biggest DVD rental chain in the country is about to go bust. People are starting to see the advantages of digital rentals. I can get in the car, drive to a rental store, choose a movie, wait to pay, get back in the car and drive home, or turn on the xbox and stream one instantly. Ok sometimes its nice to "own" a movie you really love but most of the time I just want to watch the latest throw away blockbuster on a Saturday night with the missus.
And I have to say I am one of the people who love having my games library stored digitally. Yes, I am too lazy to change discs. I find myself playing my download games way more simply because I can do so with the touch of a button (or two). Having said that I can see Azures point of view. I dont trade in games so loss of a physical disk doesnt bother me. Also I rarely buy new games anyway.
But lets be honest all-digital will be here soon and Sony will be right behind Microsoft. Dont forget they released the PSPgo, the first all digital console a few years back, and, I have to say one of my favourite consoles of all time.
Magnifying the voices of a few is wildly inaccurate. While I won't say the majority of xbone owners want physical media, the outcry was enough for m$ to give in to those demands. I'm guessing m$ looked at their pre-order numbers and they were no where near their expectations. Many people still want physical games for consoles, for trading, selling, renting, etc. While I do think we will eventually move into all digital, I sincerely believe it won't be this upcoming generation. At the end of the xbone's lifecycle, I think it will be a hybrid of the two: those that still want to purchase physical copies of the game can and those that want digital can do the same. The xbone's successor will more than likely be geared towards all digital.

day one it's already a hybrid. You will be able to puchase every game digitally, I believe on release date of each game. By the end of the One's lifetime, I predict most people will have already gone digital due to perks and benefits bestowed to them along the way, such as game sharing, discounts for digital, digital preorder bonuses - maybe some content that's only available if you buy the game digitally.
It's going to be like the shift from CD to iTunes.
Ownership and digital/physical are two different issues. I can buy MS Office on a disk, but I'm limited to the number of installs I'm licensed for. I get that digital makes it "easier" to limit ownership - but it's not a one in the same issue.
If the industry wants to limit ownership...they'll do it, digital or not.
The trade-off we'll eventually see... is that the price of games will finally go up (either outright or more stupid DLC and collector shit), we'll see more in-game advertising fuckery, or ownership rights will be limited. Perhaps some tests of all three...

how do you figure the bold? Considering Apple, and so many dollar apps - kids will see downloadable apps as the same across the board. This one is $5, this one is $75. Hmmm..... I'll just buy fifteen $5 ones.
Plus distro will be much cheaper, and no factories for processing.

I'm saying increasing prices are a likely trade-off to living with discs. And how do I figure? Easy...it's their job to get as much of your wallet as you're wiling to part with and still be happy.
And $5 apps are not in the same category as console games...Appeal to different buyers and/or solve different problems.

Sorry I must have read your post wrong. You mean having discs still will increase prices? I think that might be true.
lLke Geico ads in TigerWoods14? Got that now on the damn main menu...But, if you watch a commercial, they give you in game Pins/perks...and this is WITH A DISC...
Im one of those old fogeys that wants physical possession of my media. And until the courts decide that the media that I purchase is mine alone and that I can do what I want with it, I will continue to do so. The option for physical media allows for competition and those great sales like BOGO or 50% or 20 dollar gift cards. Once it goes all digital, it will be the itunes store, and you will be at their mercy when they want to offer you a 10% discount 6 months after a game is released. or we can just wait 2 years and certain crap games are now free or 50% off.

iTunes is no monopoly, and actually drove prices WAY down. Now albums are $7.99-9.99 mostly, when they used to be $17.99 at Sam Goody and that was 20 years ago so adjust that for inflation. There is Amazon, Pandora, Spotify, Grooveshark, Shoutcast, iTunes/Radio... etc.

After I'm done with a generation I take all my games and devices and pass them to a kid in my family. I will never do that with digital unless they give me the option to transfer that purchase to another person/username. I don't think they're in a hurry to do that.
Why not? What's the difference between giving all your discs, or downloading all your digital games to the system hard drive?
sharing a physical disc and allowing 10 people all over the world to download a game are significantly different takes on the "sharing model" doncha think?

No. Not if only one person could play the game at a time. You could mail a disc to someone (or just sell it).

We did this with Forza 3 and the DLC Bonus disk.
One disk gave about 40 group members its juicy bits for free (Well + Postage)
So yeah saying the "sharing with 10 friends thing was BS" is kind of funny. As long as only one person could play at one time why is it any different from now?
The only difference is its lazy and you don't have to actually give the plastic to someone.
Although all this talk about this is a massive waste of life cos you know it ain't happening
Yes mailing a disc to 10 people all over the world is exactly the same as 10 people with the game downloaded and ready to play at the drop of a hat.
I have all 3 current gen consoles - I have literally 100's of games. Not one game has been shared with more than 3 people at the most (actually I would say 2 people at the most but I'm giving myself some wiggle room) using the current disc based sharing method. I would either need to physically be in the same location with the person I am sharing or I would need to spend money and take a lot of extra time to mail it to them and then have it mailed back to me or on to another person.
If I could share my 100's of games with 10 people all over the world I would and then they would have access to my 100's of games instantly whenever they wanted (provided no one else was playing it at that time) without the hassel of meeting me in person to exchange the disc or going through a slow and annoying mail out situation... I don't know how else to spell it out to you....those 2 scenarios are very different. They are different to the people who benefit from the sharing process and they are different in the eyes of the companies that would have their games shared and lose profit as a result of it.

Been reading this comic from 2002 and I love it even after 11 years!
Anyhow I missed this a few months back.

!0 years down the road the XBone might be a hybrid, but I'm betting the industry will have already completed the shift.
Someone summarize this thread for me. Should I buying a fucking xbone or not? :)
bla bla bla, bicker bicker bicker, yada yada yada...
We haven't decided yet. Check back in about 3 months we should have an answer.
Did you just yada, yada, yada the best part?
No I enjoyed the bickering.
