The Race: Daytona 24 hour Road Course. Following each race I will be updating the "Course settings" to reflect the upcoming race. Feel free to check here if you want to set up your own lobby to practice.
Course Settings
-Number of Laps = 24 -Time = 15:00 hours. -Time progression = 10 -Weather at Race Start = 0 -Weather Changability = fixed -Surface Water at Race Start = 0 -Grip Reduction on Wet/Track Edge = REAL! (This is new)
I did see it say 24 laps but it also states that the course settings were for the Daytona race as highlighted in red above.
Yes, I've fixed that. I must have missed that when I originally updated it. Sorry.
sorry snoop when I hit u in t4 near the end my wheel lost it's FFb again :(. Starting to get a bit frustrated with this fanacrap wheel, it's seems to loose it's FFb at around 29 min of the race I even pulled over and reset but nothing once the room ended it sprung back to normal strength ?
Seems to be just a bit early for me to make starting time and I was looking forward to running it. Hopefully it was a good and exciting race, if anyone saved the replay and wants me to do a highlight reel let me know. You can email me the folder/file and I'll import into the game and do it.
Kuru put, it's all good dude, was some good racing tonight I had to work hard to stay in front of you before my pit and then again just before your ffb cut out. Hope you get it sorted can't be much fun when it cuts out
Great race guys! Nice win, Grim! You are are force to be reckoned with.
Its too bad we didn't have more drivers. Next week, Trial Mountain... 24 laps. Laps are running in the high 1:20's to low 1:30's. It's a track that keeps drivers busy for sure. Should be a blast. Come out and race!
This was a tough race to prep for as there were two pit strategies that would work for me. I decided to go with a 2 stop strategy with soft all around and just push as hard as I could. The determining factor was to get a good starting position and try and get out in front early and go balls out. After the the first stop, I was done 21 seconds to the leaders (Indy and Parcells) and was able to close it to 7 seconds when all pit stops (they went with 1 and I two) with 7 laps to go. I really thought I was toast as I knew I could catch them but passing was going to be a different story as both were turning some great laps and we would be well matched. Caught a huge brake when Indy spun with 4 laps to go and then caught Parcells with 2 to go and was able to make a clean pass. Problem was he was going to be all over me on the closing laps however I caught a break when he spin on the final corner taking the white flag.
All in all, It was good to see two different pit strategies play out pretty evenly. I was racing for a top three finish today as the track is not one of my best however I got lucky to pull off the win. Great race guys.
When I saw GGG pit early in the race I thought he was going to grab Mediums for the rest of the way. I knew that my lap-times on mediums were about 5-seconds slower than on softs, so I held out until my lap times were just about 5-seconds slower than at the start of the race, thinking that I'd be faster at the end with me on softs and him on mediums. Going 1-stop on softs might actually have paid off, but I had Parcels all over me after our pit stop and I used up a lot of tire racing with him. My little excursion off into the grass ended my chances.
As far as tuning, my car's suspension is completely different from where it was right out of the dealership. I found the stock setup way too tight, so I've made some pretty significant changes to loosen the car. I personally think the setup I use helps me to shave quite a few seconds off of laptimes each week, but that's because it fits my driving style. Someone else using my setup might find it way too loose and undriveable for them.

Indy....I shaved off 2 1/2 seconds using your set-up...And that was running for the first time at the race...Maybe with some practice I might of gotten close to Parcells time....Sincere Thanks!....
Snappy...Great Race..Congrats 3G's..I like to thank Indycolts (AKA Hu Fling Du) for allowing me to use his set-up. Practicing was erratic to say the least until his set-up that stabilized the car for me. I ran it cold for the race... Without it guranteed me a bottom of the barrel finish. After the first corner the race seem to flow. Costly spin-out cost me over a minute..Never could recover the time...Just couldn't match the lap times of the front runners..And that is on a dry track...Great Job by the underachievers (Anybody but 3G's). Clean and a lot of fun.
The set ups are clearly making a difference in this series. I do not have the time or the desire to do set ups for GT6 races, nor do I want to do dozens or hundreds of practice laps. I guess I will just accept my role as a back of the pack guy with pride.

2 Cents...I wish everyone had the same set-up...That way it is pure driving skills..Everyone adapts to the tune...Everybody knows by now that set-ups make the difference. If you are knowledgeable enough to tune a car to whatever your taste are you have a advantage over someone who is trying to modify his driving skills to make the stock tune work for them. I agree with Zero that you do have to have the desire and time to run many laps to figure out how to lower your time. And don't worry Zero...I seen you run in the rain and at night and left me in the dust as I have left you every now and then...Doesn't make any difference...I still enjoy racing with you!...And that alone is what it is all about!!
Other than brake balance my set-up is 100% stock. I have had some practise sessions however which definitely helps with strategy.
I guess that is why I have been doing your series for three years now Parcells. I can just jump in and drive. If I want to obsess over set ups, practice, etc., I turn to iRacing.
Track knowledge, practicing and knowing what the cars limits are is the biggest factors in turning fast laps. There's nothing in this car that's allowed to be adjusted that can make it faster. Suspension tuning just allows the driver to setup turn in and exiting to there liking. If gears, aero and parts were to be allowed it would be a different story. Every car has different characteristics which need to be driven differently if you try driving the same line in every car you'll end up struggling in a few and without practice you won't find it's strengths and weaknesses. It also helps to have a pit plan prior to the race, something I should attempt to focus on a little more, currently I just go with the flow adapt as the race goes and only focus on the next position and hope all the chips fall in place :)
As parcells proved last race using the base setup compared to a tune made no difference, practice was :)
my biggest struggle of the series is making it out the first 2 laps incident free so I can get into a groove which hasnt gone so well thus far, than it's trying to battle back with the damn FFb issues which instantly drops my avg lap time by close to 5 secs, hopefully fanatec will get back to me soon with some info regarding the issues

I was 11 seconds off the pace in qualifying, and I ended up being lapped by several of the leaders, even though I did not take a pit stop at all. Some of that is due to me using Racing Hard tires. But, the reality is that the folks that build set ups and practice like crazy are getting far better results. If we had one set up for everyone, as Wheels mentioned, the leaders would not be disadvantaged. But, because we have open set up, those of us that lack the inclination to practice and/or build set ups are at a serious disadvantage. I have been running GT5 religiously since November 2010 and so I know the GT physics backwards and forwards, including for that car. I also know Brands Hatch like the back of my hand. You cannot tell me that me getting creamed is solely because I don't practice.

Sorry but that is bs. Parcells is running a stock tune and my tune is not that much different. We are all running the same gears and downforce. The difference is un the preperation some of us are putting into it. These are purpose built race car and a suspension adjustment is not going to make a car faster. Ot allows a driver to adjust a car to their own driving style. Most stock cars on gt6 are way too soft for me and I personally don't like the weight transfer. The key to these races have been picking the correct tire and knowing when to pit. Yesterday we had two very different strategies in play and it came down to the last lap. Doing a simple 30min preperation in looking at tires is all it really needs. I figured out my stratagy one I saw I could not do RS on a sigle stop. The rest of the time was learning which corners I could improve on in the car.

I have used the exact same set as I have posted in this topic that anyone is welcome to use. The difference is getting laps in and knowing what your car can do and learn the track at what pit stratagy to use. You can't expect to just show up and race a race of this length and expect to be up front. I did put in the time to learn the track and improve my lap times however I used the same tune as posted. Its your choice to use it ir not.
Bout the most practice I ever get is if I get into the lobby early to run some laps before qualifying and the race. I almost always use the tune posted as opposed to stock if there is one. So I don't have high expectations on finishing order. I just try to run the best I can and have FUN too and usually I enjoy myself to keep me coming back for more! (abuse) lol! I sure can tell the ones who have run practice laps and prepared for the race and it really pays off for sure. If I was into being first, which is nice bonus if it can be had, I would be way more into practicising and knowing all the ins and outs of the pit strategy for each race. But mehh I just want to have some good competitive racing wherever I am in the field and some good conversation and laughs.
I would say I share Brnts attitude towards this racing as well as all racing for that matter. But I have been practising so I can put that damn Grimm in his place :) LOL and I think yesterday I had the right strategy to do so but going from second to last place in turn 2 of lap one because of my stupidity set my strategy on its heels yet it still almost worked out.
Zero- I've been sending Mark my race strategies...would you care to have them as well? Tire choice is critical and that's 95% why you were so far behind yesterday, the rest is probably lack of practise.
Let's be Honest....Once this can of worms (Set-Up-Tune) is open it will never be closed....Too many variables....We all have to know out limitations...We cannot want to be compensated because of our lack of preparation time. I like the no handicap race because if you want to improve your standings you got to put in the time to educate yourself through practice or learning how to tune.
P.(arcell)S. I am still not going to learn how to tune...
What's funny is I don't consider myself a tuner either and I typically don't spend time adjusting a tune once a base tune is created. I use a tune calculator to provide the base tune and it works for my style. Takes all of 10 mins to plug in the numbers and apply it to the car. The rest of the time is spent learning the track. Call it ocd however I want to put in my best effort in what I do and the strategy aspect is what drives me to see if I can implement the strategy I peeped for. In this race it worked. In the Megane race, it didn't work but I try to learn from it and apply the lessons learned.
Craig. I thought I changed my tires to soft before the race. When the race started I realized I still had racing hards on, I was a good 10 seconds off the pace. I pitted and put softs on and gained about 5 seconds a lap back. Now softs, after a pit stop is still two seconds slower per lap than the first set. So if you and I would have started with softs we most likely would have finished better then we did. The main thing is ,I had fun. I still cant believe I messed up with the tires.
As far as the tuning issue. We had that debate back on page two of this thread. The way this car is set up, locking the trans and wing keeps things even. If you look at Grim's tune closely you will see that the adjustments made dont make the car faster, instead, they serve to tweak how the car responds to driver input. That being said, I am considering running practice sessions so people get he chance to work on things. I'll be on tonight, Monday 2/3/2014, for some laps.
I'll also be testing another car after the Mazda session at Trial Mountain. The second car is the Caterhan Seven Fireblade which we will run at a variety of other tracks (Spa, Silverstone, Cape Ring, etc). If anyone is into it, that is. It has some minor upgrades that I can give you guys in the lobby. TCS will be unavailable for the Caterham.
I will give the build out in the lobby. I don't know it off of the top of my head. It's a minor HP upgrade, a tire change and the rest I don't recall. There are no adjustable parts that I can remember. I will post it here once I get on for those who are not able to join me later. Sorry.
Yes, I've fixed that. I must have missed that when I originally updated it. Sorry.
Race will be 24 laps and NO rain.
