I re-watched all the episodes of True Detective season one yesterday. Wow!

The story telling was so good, I could smell Matthew McConaughey's cigarettes in the air. It made my eyes burn and my throat raw. It was palpable, like I was right there.

Started watching season two. Ep 1 seemed kind of confusing but when I watched it again a few days later, it started to grow on me.

Well here is a thing, Facebook as a force for good. What? I hear you say. So a close mate of mine got more than a little pissed at the petty crime that is going on around the local, so set up a facebook page called Belturbet Neighborhood Watch. Made me an Admin and intended to sit back and see what happened. Well what happened was 550 likes in 18 hours, that is over 25% of the local population, a day later and we are pushing 700. We have already had a meeting with the press who were slightly bemused to be seeing two blokes who were wondering exactly what to do next. Anyhoo, Knight is now deeply embroiled in the whole community thing, arranging meetings with the great and the good, collating demographics and managing a page full of concerned people expecting "Something to be done" I have never been the do gooder type, but now find myself very much in that role thanks to my impetuous mate...Ah well all makes life interesting.

Sorry to hear that Knight. That's the first Facebook story for this thread me thinks, perhaps Parcells first Facebook story ever. Started out happy but ended sad with more responsibilities that sucks.

Yes and no Parcells, while I would not have chosen this, it's something that needs doing. The response to the page has been overwhelming. People often cry "Something must be done" So feck it, I'll get stuck in and do something. The bonus I guess will be that I will be seen as a positive force in my community, although neither myself nor my friend have made our indentity known it's a small community and not much remains secret for long. So yeah, more responsabilty no doubt, but maybe it's time in my life for that.

I guess it beats what we used to do, which was pitchforks and torches.

Just shows the strength of social media and the fact that the internet is wired even into a small sleepy village.  Hopefully this will send a message to the rascals that are causing all the problems.

I'm just going to say as a civil libertarian, I am very happy about the supreme court ruling today. I'm tired of people putting others down and restricting their rights. That's all.

Agreed Rad. Now If they could only go back in time and correct that "corporations are people too" blunder. Serenity now

I was thinking Knight needs to oil his armor if he's going to go sneaking around in the dark like a ninja...

No sneaking around for me...and never mind pitchforks and torches the tradition here was knee capping and tar and feathers. Sleepy rural village doesn't really describe us at all. Throw a stone you'll hit a musician, the pubs used to rock with local bands many nights of the week, we have smart TV's Smart phones, computers and all mod cons...What has happened is since the financial crash we lost our police station, post office and many local businesses. A local estate agent has been filling empty properties with lowlife scum with the assistance of the social services. Top that up with a group of Pikeys that have also moved into the area...and...well things have been getting ridiculous. Syringes have been found in the kids playground, and the more remote properties have had a spate of petty crime. Sleepy village we may not be, but we do not have the infrastructure to deal with issues like this. Quite what can be done is something of a mystery, but if there is anything, well myself and a couple of others intend to find out. The first stage in that is the Facebook group where information can be shared, and concerns aired. We also get a snapshot of the population and by asking the right question get a picture of peoples fears that is documented. Funny, Facebook analytics show we are not only reaching local, but also the wider Diaspora all around the world. So if nothing else, so far we have shone a very bright light on a problem that has up till now been hidden.

If the tech is as you say, a few motion or heat sensitive cameras may shed some light on who's the problem. Popular with the hunting folk around here.

I can't wait for the day when children can chase criminals with drones from the safety of their own home.

And here I've been trolling threads to get my points over 3,217 and my little picture hasn't popped up on top members yet, that is sooooo anticlimatic.

Don't worry free, getting your member to pop up at your age is a common complaint. So I've heard.

Well life is full of surprises...I was on the hunt for an iPad Air 2 yesterday, it has a few uses for me that my Android tablet doesn't as part of my music making, so as it is my birthday in a few weeks, Mrs Knight said she would get me one. Armed with the budget I went on a hunt. Now to save a few quid I am not averse to buying used, so first stop was a place called CEX, they do a lot of second hand tech and I have used them a fair bit over the years. Yes they had what I wanted, top of the line and near new...but...I thought I would just have a look at the Apple site, they do refurbished kit with warrantee for a year and phone assist for 90 days fully tested and repackaged. I expected them to be more expensive but no, same piece of kit for €100 less, 2014 model 128gb ram, WiFi and Cellular...So instead of more expensive, significantly cheaper. That was surprise number one.

So at 16:00 yesterday I clicked the order button. Two hours later it was in transit from the UK on free Express delivery, this morning it was on a van and on it's way here, after the usual confusion with addresses and a couple of phone calls it was in my hands by 16:00 today. That is fast by any standards, by usual deliver standards here it is unheard of...so surprise number two.

All that speed was great, but the end result is the speedy delivery of something I cannot open for three weeks LOL

So the first stage of an almost complete switch to the Apple eco system. Next will be the iMac for the studio and probably a MacBook Pro to replace this rather battered laptop. I have been a dedicated PC user since forever, so it will be interesting to see how it works out, the Racing rig of course will remain PC based.

I had bought an iPad 2 refurbished years ago from them and I was surprised at how fast it arrived as well. Only time I ever bought an Apple product other then when my wife got an iPhone 4 for free from Verizon. I do agree that Apple makes a better full size tablet. I love my Nexus 7 (first gen) but have been thinking of getting an iPad again. Samsung is the only company that really makes a decent Android tablet and I'm not a big fan of their mobile devices.

Yes I have a 2014 Nexus 7 and it does all the things I ask of it fine, reading books (never thought I would be a convert to that until I was away, got to the end of a book, downloaded the next one and a couple of minutes later was reading that...just too handy) Sat nav (Sygic very good) Shows me all kinds of real time data when I'm sim racing, and of course general internet duties when I am out and about. The iPad though has apps that will link with my studio software, and an ios version of Garage Band that will allow me to notepad ideas when I am out and about and then import them into the studio software when I get home...Irresistable :)
