What a great night, many thanks to Pap and Tourni who both did a great job of lopping seconds off of some folks times and leaving us all with good advise to work on. In among the tuition there was also great racing and the words "Knight I'm coming for you" were uttered often by Pap...and every time bar one he did. I will treasure the sight of him spinning into the wall as I crossed the finishing line for some time to come, I can't see it happening again any time soon.
Next week a new track, but same car. For sure Hock short has to go into the short list for the series.
Cheers to all the drivers that contributed to the best Saturday session to date
A very big thank you to knight for setting rhis session up and stepping in as instructer at the last minute, great job Knight, also thanks to Pap and Tourni, both gave us novices loads of advice and some very useful tips on race craft, racing lines and car control, all three followed us new boys, (I use the term boys very loosely) in my case anyway, and pointed out what we were doing wrong, and told us how to improve, and then complimented us when we got things right, I feel that I have taken a lot from tonights session and look forward to putting what I have learned into practice, With help like we got tonight, it won't be long before we are all putting together some good lap times and moving up from tail end charlie's to mid field and then onto the podium, (wishful thinking I know) but we all gotta dream right.
Once again a very big thank you to all that helped, If there was help from other people I havent mentioned, I appologise, and thank you
Can anyone tell me the name of the book that was recommended last night, for the life of me I cannot remember, the little grey cells dont seem to work as well as they used to LOL.
I will be practising rolling the joystick round the rim today ( oo-ere missus), see if I can smooth out all the corrections that seem to be my biggest problem, will let you know how I get on, but hopefully I will be grabing a wheel off Kabar next week, that should make a world of difference, then maybe I can cut another second or so of my times, after last nights session I have already seen an improvement in avaerage lap times, instead of having a good 1.17.093 followed by 3 or so laps in the 1.20's I have been able to put several laps together in the mid 1.17's which is a vast improvement, Like Knight said to us novices, if you are slower but consistant and keep to your racing line its harder for a faster driver to pass you as they have to find a way around you which means compromising their own lines. right off for a major practise session today get used to new way of using controller.

Much like I was able to hold off White in the GT2 race at Sebring to hang on to 3rd. Don't know if I could've held him off too much longer though.
Thanks for the races last night. Haven't had that much fun in quite a while. Saved a couple replays even. Chosen & I seemed to have a thing for chicanes last night.
"This isn't going to work...this isn't going to work...this isn't going to work. Holy hell, how'd we come out the other side!"

If you want to take it up a notch, survive a few tandem corkscrews, it's awesome when you come out intact at the bottom! I think I've done three or so now, crazy thing when it works.

Hey Shadders, sorry I missed this.
The two books recommended were "Going Faster" (from the Skip Barber Race School) and "Speed Secrets".
The iRacing.com Driving School videos here are a summary of "Going Faster".
Right peeps, the track this week is Maple Vally Short. I thought I knew this track...Not in this car apparently, I suspect this is one where being able to throttle steer may be an advantage and as I can't...well maybe this is a track to begin learning. I can blast around with my eyes shut in my STCC car and my F class pocket rocket...but the Fairlady...Hmmm. Best time 47:121 if your interested
Yeah I know what you mean about this track, I can blast round a FWD car quite quickly, but RWD Hmmm not so sure, I too have difficulty with throttle steering, maybe it will be easier when I get a wheel, we'll see, 47:121 sounds like a target I might have to try and hit, but I'm not holding my breath,
BTW after last weeks session, I have now got down to 1.16.5xx a full second better than my previous lap times for Hockenheim Short, well pleased, I did manage a 1:16.014 but dirtied it on the last corner of all places, so I think I should be able to get it into the high 1:15's
Great stuff mate, were gonna be having some fun in the races and yeah you got a couple of surprises heading your way, one bump in the road I have never noticed that throws the car totally if you hit it wrong...
Don't forget to grab the Maple Valley Short Reverse tune from my storefront. The Maple Valley tune takes into consideration the sweeping turns, and light braking zones. Don't use the Hockenheim tune here.
The track is a little easier (imo) running forward than reverse, and the tune should work well on either. I'll give it a shot asap.
Edit: reposted as for some reason I can't edit the post above this one, but I can edit this one. weird
Funny I find the reverse easier...hmm, I'll try running reverse as well and if I feel it is harder then we will run it.
Got all the tunes Pap...which reminds me I owe you 8K :-)
Edit...just ran ten laps while waiting for diner and got within 2 seconds of tourni's...that seems not too shabby, but it's a short track sooo. Maybe we will run both ways my instinct is reverse makes for a better race so I can test that too.
It's the sweeper at the bottom of the hill that makes the difference forward to reverse. In reverse it's a decreasing radius sweeper, which can be tricky. I've stopped counting the cars that slide out and go full speed into the wall entering the straight.
As usual Knight will be hosting a room at 20.00 for the speed challenged, hopefully we will once again be racing with the calming and enlightening mutterings of some of our faster brethren in our headphones telling us the secrets of how they are faster. Maple Valley short this week, again the Fairlady and the tune is on PTR paparazzis's storefront.
Well just three this week till Chosen dropped by but great work from Stevie on lines and both Shadders and Stevie on consistency, the twin pillars of racing for me. If you have both you can keep and frustrate a slightly faster driver behind you, and take advantage of mistakes made in front. Stevie must have taken five seconds off his opening times and by the last race was holding his own out in front until the last corner. Nice one mate.

Wanted to do this one but just got back from the pub after family meal. Wifes Nan is 80 tomorrow
Just had a 26 ounce Stake (cooked rare), Onion Rings, Fries and a Salad to balance it all out
Thanks guys, had a really good session again tonight, Shadders is starting to get it through his ageing grey noggin, that smoother is faster, knocked a good 1.5 seconds of my best, with a best clean lap of 1:46.8xx, I think both myself and Stevie have improved loads in the few weeks Knight has been running the driving workshop, with great advice from all that drop by to help us out, I think we both need to work on our racecraft now, I speak for myself when I say having someone right up your chuff, puts me into a vit of a panic, and I gaurantee that I will crack under the pressure, but running these classes is really helping me to learn these things, I look forward to my Saturday night lessons and cant thank you enough, you are turning this sunday driver into a sunday racer.
FANATEC hmmm I wish, I will be getting a MS wheel middle of next week, hopefully, then its time to start saving for Forza CSR Steering Wheel Base CSR Elite Pedals CSR Shifter Set, oh and a racing seat, not decided on which one yet, but that could be a long way off, unless we can sell our caravan, the my good lady has told me I can have it all, bless her
Well next week I am away I'm afraid, but someone should drop by to cover. Soon we will be starting a 4 week race school, Cotter is going to work on it over the next few weeks so that is something to look forward to. In the meantime I will carry on with these short tracks, as by doing them all we should have practiced every kind of corner in the easiest way. These tracks we have been doing are also the ones I will run for the FLC.
It has taken a while to hit on a format that works but we are there I think.
Heh, this session is beset with RL getting in the way. No worries Cotter we'll get by.

and input tonight cheers guys
Thank you Shadders, I'm delighted you got so much from it...as did I
It was a blast :-)
Really nice to see how much time you guys stripped away from your lap times. Very impressive

Reverse is faster..(hint hint)
Shadders Skip Barber Race School is well covered on Youtube , loads and loads of advice on loads of track's !!

Yes I think that is exactly why it makes for a better race, I supose I find it easier is because I have run it countless times in the hoppers,
