I swear Major Nelson unpacked a cord for the controller when he did the unboxing?

YOU were WRONG! No big deal. :)

I went back looking for it, thinking I missed something.

I know I saw a controller plugged in somewhere. I'm getting old I think.

No clue. Thing is, I haven't seen much in the way of video on this system.

No big deal. I'll be buying a cord as I prefer the faster response. Although the newer wireless, while not wired fast IS faster than current wireless. So maybe I should wait and see. Although I hate even bothering with batteries, so I'm back to the cord...

people using controllers with cords - do you have some game room where you just leave cords laying across the floor?  Or do you have to go to the machine and unplug and wrap up the controller every time you finish playing?  That seems like more of a hassle than every once in awhile popping in new batteries.

Wired controllers are well worth the hassle of wrapping up the cord, which only takes a few seconds.

Where I normally game, running cords is not a problem. I like the quicker response, never having to worry about batteries and the controller is always ready.

I game in my office and my 360 is less then a foot away from me. I only undo a certain amount of cord instead of the whole thing. So it is not an issue for me to have to avoid the cords.

Goes the same for my astro's mix amp and Steel Series headphones.

I sit close to the display, so the cord is never in the way of anything.  I don't wrap it after use either, just lay it on top of the desk.

I use a wire mainly because I don't have to worry about charging or replacing batteries.

My main worry with Xbox One is if I can sit where I normally do and use my center screen for it.  If Kinect can't work at that short distance, then there could be some annoyances when that is used.  Not frequent, but it could happen from time to time.

When racing online, a corded controller has a quicker response and a noticeably better feel.

has nothing to do with convenience, it's a performance issue.

I never realized so many people used cords.  I guess it's just me who is anal about minimalism and no wires.  Never once had an issue with response time with my controllers - and yes I realize if I played racing games this might be an issue.

I sit about 9ft away, on my couch - everything is closed up, so wires make zero sense.  Instant photo just now:

I like that remote, use one similar if not the same.  What kind of dog do you have?

Oh, and yeah that's understandable about the cords.

Harmony One.  Love it.  Hate that they're discontinuing them.

Your dog is super cute.

I hate cords, and I'm lazy so Ms. Plato hates that I don't wrap'em up when I'm done, but I hate replacing batteries more.  I find that the rechargeable battery-thing that came with the 360 controller tended to die and never hold a charge, so I was always plugging the damned thing in.  That may be due more to the fact I rarely played anything on my 360.

Now my 360 is hooked up to my PC monitor and sits about a few feet away from me, and since it's on my (messy) desk, Ms. Plato doesn't care about the cord not being put away.  This is what's called "win-win".

Haha, thanks.  Also, yeah I can understand that.  I can't imagine playing for long gaming sessions 3 feet away at a computer desk - I need to stretch out :)

http://uk.gamespot.com/news/xbox-one-will-function-without-kinect-6412848

If this prooves to be true, I might be persuaded to get a One, two of my three issues have been swept away just leaving my puny data allowence as the last fly in the ointment. But that is outside MS's sphere of influence, and given that I would not be a day one buyer there is always the hope that all those day one downloads will have made their way onto the discs by the time I get one. As the only thing I do online is racing and the kinect is of no addition there, and all the other games I play on Xbox I play single player it should work out that if there is any game that the kinect is actually good for I can use it offline.

So colour me interested again, the playing field has leveled and it's all down to which console looks the best bet after a few months...

I have a feeling that will change in the very near future.

nope.  They even made a big thing of unboxing and showing what is all packaged in.  They want eveyone to have one so every programmer can assume the user has one and create usage for it.

I expect a price drop too, considering Microsoft's favorite invention is now optional for console use. I'm not even going to unwrap the fucking thing if I can avoid it.

I'm a little bit happier today...I know my wife will be too.

I don't know if it's been in the media much, but there's a large number of women that have been watching this Kinect thing quite uneasily. Don't mess with a mom when she's worried about her kids.

sounds pretty sexist to me.  why would women care more about their kids than men?  oh also, some people will be worried about pretty much anything.

Clearly you know little about kids or women. No one said anything about men, or more, and anything is a generally vague shot at, um, anyone.

Great pointless response. I hope you haven't reproduced yet...

Really? Just saw a news clip where if you post one picture online from a smart phone people, and mostly anyone, especially anyone that saw the clip, can locate where that picture was taken and most likely where you live, where your kid lives, which rooms probably his, software that can actually map out that room, what school he goes to, and they had forensic cyber police (whatever their title is now) in the report that hadn't seen it yet.

Damn sad it irritates you.

Oh, and the son "on the way" confirms you don't know, yet. wink Mine are leaving for college this weekend and I'm still grasping at "don't know yet" so.....
