Oblivion and the real world

I think the best video games are the ones that holld your attention after the box is off.  That is the underlayment of many of the great games I've played and of some of the best franchises (Halo, Zelda, FF, SW:KOTOR).  When a game engages you enough that you think about it later, it shows that more than entertainment was taking place, an impression was made.

Introductions First (Not Really)

It occurs to me that I've been blogging about the most random stuff, but not made any real introduction into who I am. I'll attempt to overcome my persistant paranoia in order to fix that.  If I'm cryptic, it's really just because I don't trust anyone out there and I believe you're all out to get me.

Gamus Interrruptus

Well, I tried to play with the boys from 2old4tactics 360 last night and the ugly IP crash of death reared it's head.  Everything would be fine and then BOOM,  Vegas stops (not in the usual headshot to me way), Vonage dies, my wife screams about the internet being out and the four guys on horses show up at my door talking about some service called "A pock of lips" (whatever that is).

Internet Poltergeist

So, what can make someone new to the 360 cry?  Constant internet problems.  In November of 2005, when a good friend of mine got his 360, I was flabberghasted by the idea that he could pop in Call Of Duty 2 and after a very minimal amount of time, start shooting Nazis and Allies around the world in the face.  And then he could put in another game and be on line in a few more minutes.  Coming from PC and PS2 gaming this was a revolution.  PC online gaming is a fractured system; every game needs to be set up individually.  And online support for the PS2, well, if you  already know, you're alre

GamerScore Whoring

Is the Gamer Score evil? Well, according to the Pope, probably (see news on front pageof 2o2p). But according to gamers? Maybe. There seem to be two major schools of thought:

1. Gamer Score is a way of increasing playability and an easy way to reward gamers who go the extra mile. It's a way of seeing if you can meet challenges in a game and encouraging friendly competition in friends.
